[Elecraft] Straight Key in parallel with PC keying
Currently I manually switch between PC keying via a Microham Winkeyer which keys via N1MM and a straight key by unplugging and re-plugging in the back of the radio. I have been reluctant to simply parallel the two by means of a Y cable for fear that sending with the straight key would place a direct short across the output of the winkeyer and wreak havoc on my winkeyer. Am I being unduly concerned?? Or is there enough isolation built into the Winkeyer so that all will be well?? If I could use a Y cable I would have the PC, the paddle, and the straight key all available all the time which would be great. Thanks in advance to all who respond. 73, George K4GM __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] No output on CW with K3
My K3 using 4.22 will put out full power in TUNE position. The ATU works fine and delivers 1:1 swr or close. However, if I switch to CW I get zero power out. I switched to 5 watts out and still no power out on cw. I hear the sidetone as I key and the radio appears to go into transmit mode because the RX is muted. RX is fine. These conditions are the same on all bands 160-10. Switching to RTTY FSK D or PSK D I do get full power out. AFSK A also works fine. Suggestions?? Firmware issue or hardware problem? Re: [Elecraft] Decoder for use with K3 and PW-1
You are probably right. I installed the K3 ATU four months ago and since then have been totally spoiled by not having to manually tune my external tuner from band to band. Yes, the K3 drives the L4B perfectly but I still need to adjust the antenna tuner when using the L4B . Depending on how much a decoder costs I might just go for the gold and buy an automatic KW+ external tuner. Tuning the L4B from band to band is no big deal. You might want to use it over a 250 or 500 filter to listen to a pile up so you can hear if the station is working people above or below his frequency. I have listened to SSB a bit on the filter and while very narrow for SSB you can hear the station. The better question might be, what modes do you like to operate? I am about to order a second K3 and I was going to go with the following filters. 2.8 replacing the stock 2.7/ AM/ FM/ 400 or 500 and 250. If you never play to transmit on AM or want to do ESSB or FM those slots would be available. The K3 I have now has the 2.7 which is being replaced with the 2.8/1.8/1.0/400/200 in the main rcv, 2.8/400 in the sub. Re: [Elecraft] CW ZERO-BEATING WITHOUT BUTTON PUSHES
I agree with everything you say and have used this method for years. Now if only I could decode RTTY by listening!! 73, George K4GM K9ZTV wrote: As a adjunct to the recent posts on using the Spot and CWT features . . . There is a third capability that many long-time CW operators intuitively possess. It is the immediate recognition of the correspondence of an incoming signal's pitch to that of the operator's longtime /preferred /sidetone pitch. Just as well known voices of loved ones and friends are instantly recognizable when their faces can't be seen, so also one's preferred sidetone pitch is likewise instantly recognizable when a signal is being tuned in and "hits" that pitch. This feature of the human brain requires no button pushes other than the initial setting of the sidetone pitch frequency. Once this is set, neither the SPOT nor CWT buttons need be used (on any rig). This "cerebral feature" is always there, regardless of the brand or model of rig being operated. Several of us used this capability on Straight Key Night when operating a friend's FT-2000 with it's myriad of buttons, switches, and multi-layered controls. Once we set the sidetone pitch to our individually preferred frequencies, zero-beating was intuitive. However, hearing impairment is a whole different issue and may well require the CWT visual aid. 73, Kent K9ZTV ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] K3 to arrive soon...what do I need ...???
I recently sold an Icom 756 Pro II to make way for my K3. When it arrives I would like to be able to control the K3 from N1MM and Logger32. While I might find using the built-in RTTY facility appealing for ragchewing, I know that I would want to generate the FSK externally from N1MM when contesting. From what I have read I think I would no longer need the RigBlaster but would just use a direct sound card connection. How do I control the radio via the PC??
