Jimmy: There's truly NO REASON to let the bail 'buffalo' you into not installing it. While it is a bit more tedious to accomplish, it should certainly NOT keep you from installing and using it. Did you read my recent post regarding using slightly longer screws for the initial installation and then replacing them, one at a time, once the bail and feet are securely installed? It's NOT difficult to accomplish. If you didn't read the post, I can re-send (or re-type if necessary) it. Thanks Ken for the advice on bale assembly. I had discovered the correct technique here on the reflector and believe I could do the job if I wanted. I wasn't going to use the bale anyway because of how I have the rig situated with my other radios. If I were a proud man I would install the bale as a matter of principle. But at the end of the end of the assembly process, I had worked so hard and long, and was so proud of the radio, I didn't have the courage to risk failure again. As you surely know, this radio is as much a window into the human spirit as it is fine instrument of radio communications. I'm a happy camper, but I still say, The bale is a bear. Jimmy, I hope I'm not duplicating what others may have said ... Mount one front foot normally Get the other foot and it's hardware laid out ready to pick up ... Two longer ... 3/4 to 1 inch 4-40 screws ... will intitally make the job easier. After you get the bail in place, remove the long screws one-at-a-time and replace them with the normal 4-40 screws. It WILL work ... 6000+ of 'em are in place now ... (:-)) 73! Thanks for all the help. Used a combination. Came up with the Big Red method. Sure someone has already done it. Only requirement is a large clamp or vise. Follow directions in the manual with first foot and insert bail in that foot. Take other foot and put the regular screws in. Chew some bubble gum (Big Red) and put a little over the screw to hold them all the way in. Insert in vise or clamp and tighten until screws line up and insert foot and tighten. I used a bench mounted wood faced carpenters vise. The whole process took about 5 minutes (including time to get all the gum out). I see there is a slight bow in the plate but will flatten when screwed on. Thanks again!
