Then, other questions follow. I know of at least one other K3 user on this list who uses MixW, so hopefully he will speak up. I used to use MixW when I used Windows, but balked at the request for a step-by-step setup. As far as I can see, setting up MixW with the K3 should be no harder than with any other radio. You just need the serial cable for CAT, which you already have for firmware uploads, and a pair of audio cables between line in and headphone out and the corresponding sockets on the back of the K3. Despite the suggestion in another thread that a 10:1 attenuator is needed for the TX audio drive from the PC, I haven't needed one. The K3 should be placed in DATA A mode. In other words, AFSK will be used. MixW does not support the K3 (unless this has been added in the latest version) so you would have to select K2 (NB this appears under Kenwood!.) There may be an issue with the frequency display, as I seem to recall the K2 is not consistent with the Kenwood radios (which MixW's Elecraft support is based on) in the sidebands it uses in data mode, and I don't know if the K3 is consistent with the K2 either, but if you notice a problem try telling the software the K3 is a TS-2000. - Julian, G4ILO K3 s/n: 222 K2 s/n: 392 G4ILO's Shack: www.g4ilo.com Zerobeat Ham Forums: www.zerobeat.net/smf -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/RTTY-ON-K3---PY5EG-tp16946058p16982422.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi Ed: Thanks for the tips and also for putting me in contact with Julian. What kind of setup you have used for the RTTY contesting? RE: [Elecraft] RTTY ON K3 - PY5EG
What kind of setup you have used for the RTTY contesting? I only use FSK TX, not AFSK, and decode in parallel with a DXP38 and MMTTY (sometimes multiple windows with different decoding profiles). For SO2R control I use the Top Ten DX Doubler. No USB anywhere, all standard Serial ports. With the K3 I no longer use an external audio DSP box like the NIR-12, nor do I use any additional audio isolation transformers since they are built into the K3. Currently I use WriteLog for RTTY contest logging and will eventually migrate to Win-Test when enough of the SO2R features I use are implemented (for both CW and RTTY modes). I use TR-Log for CW (and SSB) contesting so the USB SO2R/keyer interfaces aren't useable (MicroHam, EZ-Master, etc.). Once I migrate from TR-Log to Win-Test, I may upgrade to one of these nifty USB interface boxes. (Before someone asks, no I don't consider TR4W an acceptable substitute for TR-Log.) For PSK31 I use Digi-Pan which works great with the K3, just two standard audio cables between the K3 and PC soundcard. I use 400 MHz Pentium II towers at home and 1 GHz notebooks when away. Just standard run-of-the-mill sound cards built into these computers. 73, Ed - W0YK ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
