Re: [Elecraft] K3 - using ear buds
I'm a cw only op also. Over the years I've had custom made inner ear plugs, a Meyer Aviation Headset, Extreme Isolation headphones, Yamaha headphones, ear-buds of all kinds, ...etc...etc Every over-the-ears headset I've ever tried ended up hurting my ears. I ended up staying with el-cheepo Maxel stereo head buds: http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-HB-202-Stereo-Line-Silver/dp/B6JPRQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1351714933sr=8-1keywords=Maxell+HB-202+Stereo+Line+Head+Buds%2C+Silver%27+by+Maxell They are quick and easy to take on/off. They are so light, you forget they are on. You don't have to jam them into your ears. The only additional feature that would be nice is small foam cushion tips. -- bw...@fastmail.net __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 - using ear buds
I have been using earbuds with my K3 for about a year. I experimented with three sets of headphones and seven pairs of earbuds. Since I am a CW op I don't need great fidelity. On my first pass through all the transducers I found the earbuds outperformed the headphones. Two of the headphones and three of the earbuds are high quality and great for music. But those were the ones I eliminated from my tests in the first pass since they just did not work for my purpose very well. I was left with one set of headphones and four sets of earbuds. It came down to two earbuds which I can use comfortably for hours. They also allow me to dig just a little deeper into the noise. The ones I chose were not the cheapest nor the most expensive. Another benefit of the earbuds is easy storage and the little space they use. Easy to pack for an outdoor setup too. 73, Kevin. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - using ear buds
Dear Kevin, If these are in-the-ear earbuds, please be careful. Some malfunction in the radio leading to a very loud sound could wreck your ears before you could get them out / off. I never use in-ear earbuds with electronic equipment other than well-behaved iPhone type things. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - using ear buds
I use my Apple iPhone ear buds and they work just fine for me. I much prefer them to the plethora of other headphone devices out there. Now, if Elecraft could support the mic input of those earbuds that would be cool. 73, phil, K7PEH PEH's iPad On Oct 30, 2012, at 12:07 PM, Bill b...@w2blc.net wrote: This is not strictly a K3 question, however as all I use these days is my K3 - I figure it applies. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - using ear buds
Interesting comment - I have experienced very loud noises on the speakers from my K3 (never on my 480) - 'bout knocked me out of the chair. Thank you for the caution - it is something I had not thought of. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - using ear buds
For a contest (usually rtty) I'll rotate through a heil proset, Yamaha cm500 and one of several earbuds. Each one seems to press on a different part of my head/ears so by the end of the contest everything hurts the same and I can make it through.
