Re: [Elecraft] K3 won't PTT in data...

2012-01-27 Thread Thomas Horsten
Mike,

While in data mode, press Menu, dial to MIC SEL, ensure it's set to Line
In not RPL or FPL (right or front panel), now the mic should
definitely not be live and if it is (and triggers VOX), you have a problem
with your rig and it needs to be fixed before you use data modes again.

The selection is remembered separately for the DATA modes and SSB.

No matter how loud I scream into the microphone I cannot activate VOX
whilst in data mode. If the mic was live in data mode it would be
appalling, you'd be putting background noise splatter in the PSK31
passband, for example!

I run fldigi with my K3, no need for any interface, just sound card
cables and RS232. The program is free from http://www.w1hkj.com/

You also need to download the K3.xml file (from the above page) and
it works... You don't need the companion program flrig as the fldigi
program itself reads the frequency and keys the K3 via RS232.

73 Dave, G4AON

Trying to run my K3 on PSK31 in data A mode w a tigertronics USB
interface and digipan software.

The box connects to K3 via line in/out jacks and the rear panel PTT
jack. All jumpers in interface are set correctly. When the software
goes to TX, the interface box goes to TX, and the phono plug from the
box that plugs into the K3 PTT jack goes to ground.

The K3 however doesn't go into TX mode, unless you also key the hand mike.

Tim,

Make sure you have MIC SEL on the MAIN menu set to PH+Line-In. This allows
the back line-in jack to be active for transmit/receive on the back panel
Line-In port. I also use the SignaLink with my K3 and don't have any
issues with this setting.

Hope this helps.

Using the hand mike switch as a manual PTT switch I made several PSK31
QSOs tonight so the sound card chip in the tigertronics box is apparently
 working.

Just for kicks I tried using the rs232 rig control and digipan to try to
trigger TX that way as described in elecrafts K3 operating hints, and the
rig would not go into TX mode that way, either.

Is there a selection in the menus that I am overlooking that will allow
the rear panel PTT jack to trigger TX mode while in Data A?

Re: [Elecraft] K3 won't PTT in data

2012-01-26 Thread Don Wilhelm
Tim,

You say that the PTT output from the Tigertronics jack goes to ground,
but that does not cause the K3 to go into transmit -- I think something
is awry in that area.

Think cable - have you checked the cable between the Tigertronics and
the K3 PTT jack? Pull the cable off the Tigertronics end and short
across the connector - does the K3 go into TX? If not, try another
cable. If the K3 does go into TX, then your interface is not connecting
its PTT output to ground.
