I'm not that happy to hear this unlike Alfredo, but I really hope Ubuntu stops making Unity as a Compiz plugin, it was one of their worst decisions ever. Unity should be a WM itself. Right now, the whole Ubuntu desktop is a *dirty hack*, unlike on elementary OS, where our structure is clean and functional. Well, maybe happy is not the right word. What I mean is the same as you, I that Unity, for instance, is not optimal as elementary OS and GNOME Shell are. As you said, Compiz workarounds feel just like a dirty hack.
