Skills Yes 1 Database Platforms Database UpgradesYes 1 Database Platforms SQL Server Yes 1 Specialties Data ModelingYes 1 *Current situation:** * Client is currently using a client server system for its SACWIS (Children and Adults Protective Services System or CAPSS-II) that is primarily built upon a Visual Basic VB6 fat client that connects to the ADABAS database via a Web Services component (WS), that connects to a Business Services class (BS) who then connects to a Natural Business Services (NBS) class that accesses the classes that access the database tables. There are a few (probably a half dozen) administrative functions that are only used in the DSS central offices that are still old 3270 green-screen functions that will also have to be dealt with. For the VB components, the WS returns a serialized XML string to the VB application. The BS is a collection of VB instructions that use classes from the NBS to access data according to the application needs and then transform it into an XML stream; there are about 400 BS classes. The ADABAS environment is hosted on an IBM mainframe class system. . The ADABAS environment is hosted on an IBM mainframe class system. The current VB6 applications have been reengineered and rewritten using MS .NET VB and have now gone live as of August 18 2008; the ADABAS database will continue in its current state. *Concern:* Once the new application is installed there is concern over the continued use of the ADABAS database environment and the mechanism used to access the database. It is highly restrictive and consumes significant resources during its operation as well as being limited in its flexibility for future applications changes as well as database adjustments. The desire is to replace the ADABAS database with a MS SQL Server database sunning on Wintel Servers supporting the application via SQL using stored procedures. The following diagram represents the desired structure. Additionally there are a number of batch reports written with Natural and Construct from Software AG that operate against the ADABAS database that will also need to be converted/rewritten to operate in the .NET environment, as well as a few 3270 green-screen functions that will need to be dealt with.
