Re: [Emc-developers] 2.8 Install from Buildbot

2020-09-17 Thread John
I right clicked on Applications selected Edit Menus and unchecked all
the items in the CNC menu then checked them and they showed up in the
Applications > CNC men. Seems to be an old issue with Mate as I had to
do that before. Fixing the typo did put them in the CNC menu but they
were not visible until you toggle the check box.

Not really, it describes what we already have.

One possibility, can you hand-edit the Category: in the .desktop files
to _only_ include the X-CNC-DOC or X-CNC-REF entry?

Yes, the menu is there and works. But you have to then wade thru all the

Fresh install on a VM, Debian Stretch with Mate, ssh and standard
utilities, from the official Debian iso.

After logging in the first time, these were the command i used

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install dirmngr
$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net --recv-key 3cb9fd148f374fef
$ echo deb http://linuxcnc.org/ stretch base 2.8-rtpreempt | sudo tee
-a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/linuxcnc.list
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install linuxcnc-uspace

I confirmed which packages was installed:
$ apt list linuxcnc-* --installed
linuxcnc-doc-en/linuxcnc,now 1:2.8.0 all [installed]
linuxcnc-uspace/linuxcnc,now 1:2.8.0 amd64 [installed]

In the menu I have 10 entries in the "Other" category. No sub-category.

Is this close to what you were after Andy?

Is there any chance of doing a documented installation to see what happens?

(using www.linuxcnc.org/dists rather than buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists)

I want to know if the actual release is broken, I don't care about the
buildbot.

Re: [Emc-developers] 2.8 Install from Buildbot

2020-09-15 Thread John

I downloaded

http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/buster/2.8-rtpreempt/binary-amd64/linuxcnc-uspace_2.8.0_amd64.deb

and installed it with

sudo dpkg -i linuxcnc-uspace_2.8.0_amd64.deb

No CNC menu and the menu items are in the Other menu.

Then I installed with dpkg

http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/buster/2.8-rtpreempt/binary-amd64/linuxcnc-doc-en_2.8.0_all.deb

and it added the User Manual EN to Other.

Re: [Emc-developers] 2.8 Install from Buildbot

2020-09-14 Thread Ernesto Lo Valvo

I wanted to report that the version of LinuxCNC present at
http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/buster/master-rtpreempt/binary-armhf/

with the Raspberry PI 4 (2gb and 4gb) shows this error message:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ halrun
halcmd: loadrt hal_pi_gpio
Note: Using POSIX realtime
unrecognized Raspberry revision, see /proc/cpuinfo
hal_pi_gpio: rtapi_app_main: Invalid argument (-22)
:1: waitpid failed /usr/bin/rtapi_app hal_pi_gpio
:1: /usr/bin/rtapi_app exited without becoming ready
:1: insmod for hal_pi_gpio failed, returned -1
halcmd: Note: Using POSIX realtime

Also, the .zip file at
https://www.linuxcnc.org/iso/linuxcnc-2.8.0-pi4.zip

contains 2 identical files with the name:

1)  2020-09-08-linuxcnc-2.8.0-pi4.img
2)  linuxcnc-2.8.0-pi4.img

Instead, in this version the hal_pi_gpio module works correctly.
