HP EMC Test Software.
Hi everyone. I'm looking for any surplus copies of HP 85879A Radiated Emissions Software. This is no longer sold or supported by HP, but I understand it was the PRE-PC bread and butter Radiated Emissions package. If you've Please get back to me if you've recently upgraded to a PC based system or have a lead on this S/W package. I'd consider getting it with an HP Series 200 or 300 workstation if not available separately. Thanks!! Best regards, Rob. - This message is coming from the emc-pstc discussion list. RE: FCC part 15 text
Kim: the following is a cut and paste from the FCC rules found on the RCIC web site Sec. 15.19 Labelling requirements. (3) All other devices shall bear the following statement in a conspicuous location on the device: This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. (5) When the device is so small or for such use that it is not practicable to place the statement specified under paragraph (a) of this section on it, the information required by this paragraph shall be placed in a prominent location in the instruction manual or pamphlet supplied to the user or, alternatively, shall be placed on the container in which the device is marketed. However, the FCC identifier or the unique identifier, as appropriate, must be displayed on the device. Re: IEC 950 Insulation Requirements
Donald, The numeric suffixes key Table 0.1 to Figure 5A: * OP1 through OP6 are all OPERATIONAL INSULATION (clause 1.2.9.1) which does not provide protection from electric shock. * B1 through B8 are all BASIC INSULATION (clause 1.2.9.2) which provides one level of protection from electric shock. * S1 and S2 are both SUPPLEMENTARY INSULATION (clause 1.2.9.3) which provides a second level of protection from electric shock. * R1 through R4 are all REINFORCED INSULATION (clause 1.2.9.5), which is equivalent to DOUBLE INSULATION (clause 1.2.9.4), which consists of BASIC plus SUPPLEMENTARY INSULATION. * S/R is SUPPLEMENTARY or REINFORCED INSULATION that meets Table 0.1 notes 3 4. The insulation requirements cover not only the expected peak voltages, but also the transient voltages that may appear on the different circuits. They also cover the possibility of a pinhole or insufficient overlap of the insulation permitting an arc to occur. Insulation requirements are mainly covered by IEC 950: * Section 2.9 Clearances, creepage distances and distances through insulation. * Section 5.3 Electric strength. * Section 5.4 Abnormal operating and fault conditions. * Annex F (normative) Measurement of creepage distances and clearances. Clearance is distance through the air. If an arc occurs, and then stops, the air is assumed to completely return to normal. Creepage is distance over the surface of an insulator. If an arc occurs and then stops there can be damage that leaves the surface conductive or otherwise more prone to arc again. The required creepage distances are a function of: * Transient voltages. * Pollution class-- how much crud can build up on a surface its likelihood of getting wet. * Comparative Tracking Index (CTI)-- how badly insulator gets damaged by an arc. The question relates to the two table 0.1 and Table 5 which is intended to give examples for the application of the various insulation requirements. In the two table it appears there are numerical reference to the different categories of insulation, for example OP1, OP2, B1, B2 etc. I have reviewed the entire standard and I can not find any other reference other then these tables to these numerical references of the different categories of insulation. Could some one provide some insight in the the intent and use of these tables? Are the numerical references simply to identify various circuits to circuit situations and which of the five categories of insulation applies? RE: FCC part 15 text
The following is taken from an FCC Guide to the new DoC procedure for Class B Certification. As you can see, the text of the Compliance Statement located on the exterior of the device depends on the size of the device, as described below: PRODUCT LABELING INFORMATION: If the device is extremely small, no FCC certification information need be placed on the unit, but both the FCC Compliance Statement and the FCC Warning Statement should be included in the Manual in a conspicuous location. If the device is moderately small, an abbreviated FCC Compliance statement should be placed on it's exterior, in no less than (8) point san serif type. Example: (not in correct type or font) THIS DEVICE COMPLIES WITH PART 15 OF THE FCC RULES. SEE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. If the product is larger, it should carry the full text of the FCC Compliance Statement, as follows, in the same minimum type face and size as the abbreviated message above. The overall size and shape of the notifi cation is not regulated. Example: (Not in correct type or font) THIS DEVICE COMPLIES WITH PART 15 OF THE FCC RULES. OPERATION OF THIS DEVICE IS SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING TWO CONDITIONS: (1) THE DEVICE MAY NOT CAUSE HARMFUL INTERFERENCE, AND (2) THIS DEVICE MUST ACCEPT ANY INTERFERENCE RECEIVED, INCLUDING INTERFERENCE THAT MAY CAUSE UNDESIRED OPERATION. Regardless of which scenario your product fits into, keep in mind that you are still required to label the product with the FCC Self-Certification Logo and associated product number. If you are submitting an application for Certification using the older route (Form 731), the Certification Statement and FCC Warning Statement (Statement to the User in the Manual) remain the same as above, however, instead of labeling your product with the FCC Self-Certify Logo, the product will require the FCC Identifier to be placed on the exterior of the product. MANUAL INFORMATION: If the product carries no FCC Compliance Statement or the Abbreviated Compliance Statement, the full text of the Compliance Statement must be included in the manual as follows: FCC Compliance Statement: THIS DEVICE COMPLIES WITH PART 15 OF THE FCC RULES. Regardless of the form of the FCC Compliance Statement, all tested and approved Class B devices should have the FCC Warning Statement in the Manual as described in section 15.105(b) of FCC CFR 47 (October 1, 1998). I hope this helps. -- Sincerely, Randall T. FCC part 15 text

Noise Figure
I am trying to determine the maximum noise figure that I can have for my 1-16.5 GHz EMC receiver system which includes the horn, mixer for above 18 GHz, preamp, cable and spectrum analyzer. I know the following: * Signal level received by the horn * Gain through the system * Noise figure from the horn to the spectrum analyzer * Noise floor of the spectrum analyzer I understand that noise figure is the ratio of the s/n of the input to the s/n of the output of the system, so if I need an output s/n of 6 dB and have a NF of 14 dB, I need a s/n input to the horn of 20 dB. So it appears that I have one missing piece of information - the input noise to the horn. Now I am lost. Suggestions? - This message is coming from the emc-pstc discussion list.
