Vacuum metalizer in SE Asia
Hello all, Does anyone know of a decent (by that I mean they work out of something better than a Quonset hut) vacuum metalizer of plastics in SE Asia, preferably in Malaysia? There are numerous VM finishers we know of in the area but none of them apply the coating as a EMC solution, but for cosmetic purposes only for toys and the like. Thanks in advance, Don Rhodes Principal EMC Engineer InFocus Corporation
Decoupling - capacitor values
A microprocessor is driven by a 12MHz clock. The 5V Vcc-pin is decoupled by a 100nF capacitor with a few mm leads. We can observe an unwanted 156MHz signal on the 5V line, maybe 13th harmonic of 12MHz. We will try to suppress/decouple this 156MHz signal. Suggestion: Insert a SMD ceramic capacitor of value 820pF in parallel with the existing 100nF. The reason for the low value 820pF is because the capacitor self-resonance frequency is approximate 180MHz, and I believe it is important to choose a Cap value with a resonance frequency higher than the frequency we would like to decouple. Does it make sense? Best regards Amund Westin, Oslo/Norway --- This message is from the IEEE EMC Society Product Safety Technical Committee emc-pstc discussion list. RE: HP-85650A Calibration
I've used Acucal in the past Ed. The have several portable labs that travel around the area at specific times. I think they hit up here in the Northwest around July. Not a clue when they hit the San Diego area. Here is their web address. www.acucal.com. They calibrate the equipment at my old lab, with the proper tracibility documentation etc. Gary -Original Message- From: Price, Ed [mailto:ed.pr...@cubic.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2002 7:49 AM To: 'EMC-PSTC List' Subject: HP-85650A Calibration Hi Listmembers! Re: HP-85650A Calibration
Ed, Use an accredited cal lab. of course, it should be A2LA ;-) Seriously, they have a list of suitable labs on their website www.a2la.org Derek Walton

RE: Combining of Compliance Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety
Martin, my 30+ years experience in Product Safety leads me to believe that the advantages of a common group/management would outweigh the disadvantages. First, a HS department deals with many more issues than you listed including all worker safety regulations, standards and practices. On top of that, training of employees is required. Being a manager of Product Safety, I cannot imagine trying to keep up to date with all of the HS regulations. standards, practices and employee training as well as all of the regulations and standards for Product Safety. Or course, a common grouping might make sense in a very small company, but not for one like ours where we have hundreds of employees in diverse area such as engineering and manufacturing. Compliance engineering is responsible for product safety and EMC as well as handling product liability issues. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) develops and implements chemical regulations. They focus on toxic substances and chemical regulations. Does anyone have any experience with a similar organizational set-up? What are the advantages? What are the disadvantages? How could this structure benefit the company as opposed to leaving them as two separate departments? Currently, the EHS Department reports to Quality. Would it make better sense for EHS Department to report to Compliance versus Quality? All responses are greatly appreciated.
