Ni-Cadmium Battery Belt

2002-11-29 Thread Peter Merguerian

Dear All,

For a battery belt (pouch containing Ni-Cad batteries) worn on a builder's
waist and for use with power tools used during construction of buildings:

1) What would be the applicable safety standards? Of particular concern is
the pouch flamability requirements.

2) I assume no emc requirements (tests) for such a battery device. As I
understand a DoC for CE can be made even if no tests were made. What would
be a typical DoC wording for this type of DoC?

Thanks all and hope some many of you enjoyed your Turkey!!

EMC Standards for theatrical props

2002-11-29 Thread Neil Helsby

While you state that the product is not lighting or sound related, does
it include video? EN 55103-1-2 relates to audio, video, audio-visual
and entertainment lighting control apparatus for professional use.

Even if your client's product does not apparently come under this
standard, it is one worth examining since the product may be surrounded
by equipment that does fall within its scope. The standard is very good,
having emission and immunity levels related to the electromagnetic
environment of use. It also includes requirements specific to this
industry, magnetic fields in particular. Emissions are tested over the
range 50 Hz to 50 kHz with immunity covering the range 50 Hz to 10 kHz.
If your client's product is tested to other standards, the audio magnetic
fields would be omitted.

If you consider a typical theatrical venue with vast amounts of audio
gear in the vicinity and not forgetting magnetic fields from high powered loud
speakers, it is possible that your client's product could either
interfere with the theatre's installation or malfunction because of the
magnetic field strengths.

Regards,

Neil Helsby

Re: EMC standards for theatrical props

2002-11-29 Thread John Woodgate

I read in !emc-pstc that Nick Williams nick.willi...@conformance.co.uk
wrote (in v04220802ba0beffbe60b@[192.168.1.20]) about 'EMC standards
for theatrical props' on Thu, 28 Nov 2002:
We have a client who is designing some equipment for use in
theatrical venues (including stadia and arenas). The equipment is (in
effect) a stage prop and is not lighting or sound related.

Would this be considered to be an industrial location, or a
commercial/residential one?

If it could reasonably be used in a small theatre or venue with power
supplied to the site at 230/400 V, then it needs to meet
commercial/light industrial requirements.

If it is extremely probable that it would be used only in large theatres
and venues with power supplied to the site at Medium Voltage, then it
may not be necessary for it to meet EN61000-3-2 and -3 or -11 (and -12
when published) but, because of the other electronic equipment used in
close proximity, it had still better meet the other commercial/light
industrial requirements.
