RE: PSpice model for 1/4 wavelength antenna

2003-10-08 Thread Brench, Colin

Hi Robert,

SPICE is a time domain tool, you might have difficulty finding a suitable
model as most antenna analysis is performed in the frequency domain. To find
the radiation resitance and impedance of a monopole is easy using one of the
NEC family of codes (Numerical Electromagnetics Code) MininNEC etc. but this
would not be a sufficient model for a SPICE run.

Length diameter, feedpoint etc can all be considered but I know of no efficent
tool for doing this in the time domain.

Colin..

Does someone out there have a PSpice model for a 1/4
wavelength antenna? 433.92MHz

Something that I can change to reflect diameter of the rod,
detuning, etc.

Or, do you know someone who has such a model?

Need it fast, please.

Corrosion tests - NEBS or Milspec accleration factors?

2003-10-08 Thread GARY MCINTURFF
Question came up. Is there any real time correlation for some of the NEBS
endurance tests. Salt corrosion (outdoor units - GR-487) for example.? In
other words does the 200 hour test relate to 20 years real exposure to salt
fog and spray common in port cities. Same question for the Mix flow gases
and/or the hygroscopic dust tests.
The test can be looked at one of two ways - 1) There is a direct
acceleration correlation for every hour in the chambers the equipment would
experience similar corrosion in 2 weeks of exposure if installed in a seaport
etc. 4 hours 8 weeks etc.
2) The tests may be overly harsh, but experience has shown that while not
directly relatable if the equipment withstands the various tests then it will
last at least as long as the contracted life of the equipment. Say 20 Years!
GR-1089 and GR-63 don't seem to provide this information. Is there
somewhere else I should be looking?
Thanks
Gary

Hi Bill,

Not really, I have to disagree. I strongly believe in the DoC approach,
otherwise we would be forced to use expensive labs.

What's needed is a combination of education and enforcement

Education, which should be free, ie state sponsered.

Enforcement, which would be self funding.

RE: Missing Emissions data from D of C?

2003-10-08 Thread John Allen
Hi
Wrt to Bill's comment on the weakness of the DoC, I would personally say that
the DoC in question is non-compliant with the EMCD since it does not declare
compliance with a relevant full set of harmonised standards for bothimmunity
and emissions or reference a relevant Competent Body-approved TCF, and
therefore it does not demonstrate compliance with the requirements of Articles
3 4 (and related requirements) of the Directive.

Therefore, the weakness is probably not with the concept of the DoC as stated
in the Directive, but with the manner in which compliance with the Directive
in general and the DoC requirements in particular is, or is not, enforced,
(i.e. very rarely in many EU countries!).

Nevertheless it would be interesting to be given the actual wording of that
DoC so that we could comment in detail, since - in my experience - around 50%
of DoC's are incorrect in some form, especially when prepared by someone who
does not know both the relevant Directive(s) and the related interpretive
documents.
(In fact I wonder if it even referenced the EMCD, as I have seen some that
called up only relevant standards and not the relevant overarching Directives).

Derek,
This points out one of the weaknesses of the self-declaration (DOC). The
responsible party can self declare for whatever standards they feel suite
their needs. For instance, just because a product is CE marked, it doesn't
mean that it has been tested or passed to all the relevant standards. It may
just be safety. The only way to tell for sure is to look at the actual DOC,
which lists the standards the product has been tested to. In the case you
brought up, The product should have been tested for emissions to EN 55014 at
the very least. We would also recommend EN 55022, since the potential for
interference goes well beyond the 300MHz called out in EN 55014.

Hi all,

while reviewing a clients competitors D of C, I was surprised to see that only
Immunity and Low voltage were address, there were no emissions requirements
called out.

The product is a professional arcade game. Is this product exempt? Any
thoughts why this could be allowed?
