Job Opportunity in Wind Power

2010-06-23 Thread emc-p...@ieee.org
List members,

I am passing this job opportunity along on behalf of

Melanie Albright
Client Partner
Wyndham Mills International
d: 336-544-1087
c: 336-601-2682
www.wyndmill.com <http://www.wyndmill.com/>
http://www.linkedin.com/in/mralbright

Please contact Ms. Albright directly as I have no involvement with either
Vestas or Wyndham Mills and cannot provide any additional information.

 Position Brief
Vestas Wind Systems A/S
Compliance & Safety Engineer – Engineering & Products
CLIENT PROFILE
Vestas is the world’s leading producer of high technology wind power
solutions. The company installed its first wind turbine in 1979 and has since
played an active role in the fast-moving wind power industry. From pioneer in
the industry with a staff of approximately 60 persons in 1987, Vestas is today
a global, market-leading group with over 21,000 employees.
With a 23 percent market share worldwide, Vestas is the leading supplier of
wind energy solutions. Vestas’s wind turbines generate clean, sustainable
and competitive energy for the benefit of the environment all over the world.
Vestas has installed more than 35,000 wind turbines in 63 countries on five
continents; the company globally installs an average of one wind turbine every
four hours. Vestas wind turbines generate more than 60 million MWh of energy a
year – or enough electricity to supply millions of households. Over the past
25 years, Vestas has succeeded in improving the generator effect of its wind
turbines by a factor of 100.
Vestas’ principal activities are the development, manufacture, sale,
marketing and maintenance of systems that use wind energy to generate
electricity. Vestas’ strategy is to supply customized wind power solutions
based on standard wind turbines and standardized options that can generate
electricity of the optimal quality at the most competitive price. Vestas
supplies a full range of products, from individual turbines to the delivery of
turnkey wind power systems. As a strong, independent partner, Vestas can
supply guidance to customers in connection with the development, financing and
ownership of wind turbine projects. However, Vestas never participates
directly in these activities. On the contrary, Vestas is the independent
system supplier.
The company is distinguished by a high degree of vertical integration. By
manufacturing the principal parts of the turbine itself, Vestas increases the
flexibility of product development, reduces the dependence on suppliers, and
maintains a high level of manufacturing know-how. At the same time, production
and sourcing are carried out as close to the market as possible, which will
reduce dependency on different currencies.
Vestas intends to build the world’s strongest energy brand. Consistent with
this strategy, Vestas aims to maintain strong growth, building a far more
effective and substantially more profitable organization over the coming
years. To strengthen its competitive power, Vestas is currently investing
heavily in new capacity in China and the USA, as the long-term goal is to
supply “North America from the USA”, “Europe from Europe” and “Asia
>from Asia”.

Job Opportunity - RadiSys - Portland, Oregon

2008-08-21 Thread Michael Garretson
Greetings PSTCers,

I posted a brief note a couple of weeks ago, but wanted to provide more detail
on another opening we have for an experienced compliance engineer.

RadiSys is a manufacturer of embedded computer products. This position is at
our Hillsboro, Oregon location and supports design teams worldwide.

The ideal candidate must be very comfortable working with a wide range of
computers, software, operating systems and electronics.

They must be able to read schematics and provide a technical analysis based on
applicable standards and test targets for the program.

They must be ready to jump in and operate the equipment being tested (with
support from the development team) and are frequently in the position of
demonstrating acceptable operation to test lab personnel.

Most of our products obtain safety certifications to IEC/EN/UL 60950-1 and EMC
approvals to EN 55022/24 and FCC Part 15.

We have significant NEBS project work (Telcordia GR-63/GR-1089 and ETSI 300
386 / 300 019).

And frequently have to support a broad range of customer requirements for
shock/vibration, temp/humidity and other areas.

Realizing that not everyone needs to support safety, EMC, NEBS, Environmental,
etc., we’re looking for someone who will hit as broad a range as possible.

Existing members of the team and others within our R&D organization support
these activities, as well.

This engineer will support projects from initial design to end-of-life –
with the bulk of their time focused on initial certification of the product.

Requirements:

*  BS degree or equivalent

* 12 years of experience in the areas described above

* Solid track record working on broadly cross-functional teams

* Comfortable supporting multiple projects concurrently and performing
hands-on testing

The posting for the position is here:

http://www.radisys.com/careers/jobs_detail.cfm?jobsid=356.

It has additional information, as well as links to broader information about
the company, benefits, etc.

It’s also posted on Monster.

Please e-mail me if you have questions or concerns.

Job Opportunity - Compliance Engineer - RadiSys Corp - Portland, OR

2007-10-09 Thread emc-p...@ieee.org
Greetings,

Below is the text of our latest job posting. The posting is live on
monster.com and the RadiSys website.

Since it’s not explicitly stated, we’re an embedded computer manufacturer.

There’s also a lot of information on our site about corporate culture,
benefits, life, the universe and everything (see page 42).

If you have questions, please drop me a note and I’ll be happy to try to
answer them.

If you’re interested (or know someone who might be), please apply online,
but drop me a note with your resume, as well. I’m hoping there’s a
referral bonus in my future.

My sense is that this req is going to move pretty fast, so don’t delay.

Regards,

Michael Garretson

Compliance Engineer

RadiSys Corporation

US - OR - Portland - Staff Regulatory / Compliance Engineer

SUMMARY

=

Are you capable of providing technical direction for a worldwide regulatory
compliance program that ensures RadiSys products glide through testing for a
broad range of end-use markets and geographies?

Are you interested in working with a dynamic global team working on the next
generation of building blocks that go into some of the coolest products in the
world?

Are you interested in working someplace where total compensation means more
than just a paycheck and work is measured by successful outcomes rather than
hours on a timecard? If you're the all star we're looking for, your base pay
with bonus, stock and benefits will be very competitive in the world of high
tech compliance.

Interested? Drop us a line. Not ready yourself, but know someone who is?
Forward this along or let us know who might fit the bill. Don't let this
opportunity pass.

ADVANTAGES

If your job today has started to feel like the movie Groundhog Day, RadiSys
can offer you something new. As a Staff Compliance Engineer, you'll guide our
product development teams through the safety, EMC, Environmental and NEBS
requirements for their products. Our website only begins to show the wide
variety of products we develop and end-use markets and geographies we serve.
The right candidate for this position will be able to adapt ITE and telecom
standards and similar requirements to the specific needs of a program or
customer. They will provide technical guidance for the development team on
how to ensure products sail through certifications with plenty of margin. To
be clear - it isn't all glory. Being on the cutting edge means making this
happen is hard work. If you're up for the challenge - tell us why you can get
it done for us better than anyone else.

BENEFITS

At RadiSys, the job isn't nine-to-five - the job is to get results. Sometimes
that's more than an average workweek - and sometimes it's less. RadiSys
rewards outstanding performance not just with competitive pay and a solid
package of standard benefits, but with key intangibles like the flexibility
for top talent to achieve strong results on their own terms. The world is
24/7. Life moves fast. If you're the type who runs in the front of the pack,
RadiSys is the place for you.

This job is in Oregon, which most of us think is a great place to work. If
you're from around here, you probably already know, but if you're not, we
encourage you to take a look at what we have to offer. It's not Silicon
Valley or Boston, though there are streaks of each in some of what you'll find
here. Oregon is unique and putting it into words doesn't do it justice. If
you're new to Oregon or Oregon is new to you, take a look at what's important
to you and talk about it with friends and family - and, of course, with us.
We know that this is only going to work if you and your family are happy
living in a place you love. If that's not Oregon, then this job's probably
not a solid fit for you.

CAPABILITIES

At RadiSys, a Staff Engineer has at least 12 years combined post-graduate and
relevant work experience with progressively increasing levels of
responsibility and accomplishments. The successful candidate will join a team
of compliance, reliability and quality engineers in the Engineering Services
group of our 200+ member R&D organization. They will support teams at design
centers around the globe and customers in a broad range of geographies. The
ideal candidate will be versant in virtually all details of ITE and telecom
product standards (e.g. 60950) relevant to the position, as well as familiar
with requirements of other end-use standards that customers may require.
Since RadiSys provides equipment to telecommunications carriers, a solid
background in Telcordia NEBS (e.g. GR-63, GR-1089) and equivalent ETSI
requirements (ETS 300 386, ETS 300 019) is vital to success in this position.

Our engineers are hands-on and not afraid to jump in to solve problems. We
have solid internal resources to facilitate this and will outsource elements
where that makes the most sense. A typical day will range

I don't think asking the age on an employment application is prohibited;
however, it invites suspicion and leaves a paper trail that may haunt you.
Defining a college graduation date is odd, and appears to be a silly way to
gauge the applicant's age. (Really, was EE course content so much different
in 1985 versus 1987?) If we assume a reasonable progression of educational
experience, a typical engineer would graduate at age 22 in 1986; thus,
there
appears to be an age cutoff of 39.

Here's a free legal opinion, for California (and if you don't like it, sue
this lawyer):

People under forty years old are not protected by age discrimination in the
workplace laws. If an employer refuses to hire somebody because he or she
is
thirty-nine, and therefore "too young", that is not illegal. But if it
because he or she is forty and "too old", that is illegal.

Is it too quaint to prefer a "good" applicant rather than a specific "age"

Looks like the emphasis is on design and analysis and not on testing. For

RE: Job Opportunity - Maryland

2003-10-15 Thread Mike Cantwell
I've been getting quite a few emails regarding "age discrimination" regarding
the email below. Just so it's known, the recruiter did not place this
requirement on the job, nor did I. The requirements are poorly written, no
question.

My intent was to allow someone the opportunity to gain employment and feed
their family.

The requirements seem to be the result of a conversation, not a legal
briefing. I have no idea who the company is, nor do I care, but for the sake
of those in the midst of a job search, they are who this was intended for.

I will certainly edit the next request I get and provide less information than
I did this time, but I think it's important to take this email for what it
was, trying to help someone get a job.

Thanks,
Mike

Not really buying this argument. I too spent a second considering that they
were looking for some sort of experience being taught only in the last 20
years or something. But with even the slightest of thought it would have been
stated completely different. EG Need college experience in ASIC development
etc. Even if I met the qualifications as stated this opportunity goes straight
into the garbage. It tells me a lot of things that I'm sure the
manager/company didn't want to say about the work environment.

I believe that this sort of age specificity, even if cloaked in graduation
year, is illegal in the United States.

Not that it doesn't go on all the time, but it is illegal, and in my opinion,
wrong.

Some years ago there was a flap with IEEE Spectrum running ads that asked for
(for example) 2-8 years experience. The legal way to state this is "a minimum
of 2 years experience." The cap on maximum experience is subtle (and illegal)
age discrimination.

The recruiter (Bryan) is probably stuck in the middle, trying to satisfy a
client (improperly) setting these requirements.

Well, that's my opinion. Others may have at it.

Subject: Job Opportunity - Maryland

I received the following job opportunity from this recruiter:

 <mailto:bryan_axm...@oxfordcorp.com> bryan_axm...@oxfordcorp.com

He has helped others on this list find employment in the past so if anyone is
interested in this position or knows of someone interested in this position
either contact him directly or you can contact me and I'll help them get
through.

Looks like the emphasis is on design and analysis and not on testing. For
whatever reason, age seems to matter, I'm sure to reflect salary versus
experience. Good luck to those interested.

Job Description:

I need a emi/emc ANALYSIS/DESIGN (opposed to a straight test) guy that
graduated from college between the years of 1988-1992. Job in maryland.

Emi analysis, pspice, mathcad, RF work of any kind.

t1) a graduate that didnt graduate any earlier than 1986

2) the candidate knows that my manager may want to make him an offer after 9
months for perm placment

3) it is emc/emi analysis and design instead of straight emi/emc testing

Maybe the loophole is that they are only asking for year of graduation? They
are allowed to ask that.

2003-10-15 Thread Pettit, Ghery
Graduated between 1988 and 1992? Sounds like age discrimination to me! No
one over 40 need apply. Not that I’m interested in the position, but this
requirement sounds like it could violate the Age Discrimination in Employment
Act of 1967 ( http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/age.html) .

Re: Job Opportunity - Maryland

2003-10-15 Thread Jacob Schanker

Recent (Win) Press Release:

SPRINT TAPS CIENA AS STRATEGIC VENDOR FOR OPTICAL SWITCHING

CoreDirector(tm) and MetroDirector K2(tm) to Help Sprint Save Capital and
Operational Costs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Linthicum, MD - 6/25/2002 -

CIENA® Corp. (NASDAQ: CIEN) today announced that Sprint Corp. (NYSE: FON)
has selected CIENA's optical switching solutions to enable the carrier to
more cost-effectively operate its international network.

Sprint has purchased and deployed CIENA's CoreDirector(tm) intelligent
optical core switch in more than 20 cities in its international network, and
has placed orders for CIENA's MetroDirector K2(tm) metro switch for
deployment this summer. The combination of those two products -
next-generation CIENA equipment - allows Sprint to consolidate the functions
of three network elements, thus realizing significant cost savings in
capital spending and operations, and improved network efficiency. That
efficiency and associated cost savings is the hallmark of CIENA's
LightWorks(tm) network architecture.

"Since 1996, CIENA has introduced technology that enhances our ability to
serve our customers better," said Bob Azzi, vice president of Network
Engineering at Sprint. "CIENA's LightWorks architecture reduces our network
operating costs and provides us with the ability to automate many of our
operating procedures."

Sprint has initially deployed CIENA's CoreDirector systems to provide
optical switching, broadband digital cross connect system (BDCS) and
add/drop multiplexing (ADM) functions integrated in a single network
element. This efficiency - combining the functionality of three network
elements into one system - is the cornerstone of CIENA's LightWorks
architecture, and saves carriers significant capital and operating costs.

CoreDirector delivers CIENA's Smart Ring Technology, which allows Sprint to
deploy rings with performance equivalent to four fiber bidirectional line
switched r
