Re: [Emc-users] Emc-users Digest, Vol 38, Issue 19
The old recirculating ball steering box adjustment on the top of the steering box was for the end play of the shaft not to preload the balls. many ball screw nuts use over-sized balls to preload or reduce backlash and, the shaft itself held tight as captured bearings can. I guess I'm a little confused. Isn't this design merely a modification of the old recirculating ball steering box used in autos for the last 50 years or so??? You could easily adjust those to eliminate any slop (backlash) in the steering via an adjustment screw on the box. Enlighten me, please! [Emc-users] 2 ?'s Spindle control hwto/Double step?
Hello 1. Does anyone have a source of info that I can access to learn how and what I need for controlling a machine tool spindle? I have searched the net and came up empty. I have a Wells Index knee mill running Emc2 and the 80's vintage mill uses magnetic starters forward and reverse. I would like to explore spindle control for rigid tapping and I also would like to retro a lathe with Emc2. 2. I am curious about double step that Jeff Epler came up with and how it has tested out using Gecko drives? My setup uses 28000 BASE_PERIOD and a 25000 INPUT_SCALE and it nets me 38 IPM. My Dell has a latency of about 18200 and I currently use DIR hold of 2 Periods to get the 20us hold time required by the Gecko drive. The rapid speed isn't a great big deal to me,but if I can double that I would be pleased. I have never ran another PC based controller ,Fanuc,Yasnac,Mazatrol, and I will be the first to sing the praises EMC2, great job ! Thanks again Al Smart __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! [Emc-users] Stepper motors and Gecko's
I posted last week about steeper motors maybe week? So I thought I would follow up and ask some more questions. Anyway I was using terminal #7 on the gecko 210 tied to my estop to ground to disable the drive. This pulls the motor windings to zero, (gecko doc,s) I always wonder why the drives were noisy and so were the motors. as I ran the machine more and more, the motors would quit down and run graet with no missed steps after about 5 min. or so. I disconnected terminal #7 and the problem was fixed. Anyone with any ideas what demons were at work here? Thought I was being extra safe! over thought . [Emc-users] stepper motors?
I have 1980 vintage wells index knee mill, I have retro to emc2 from bandit using gecko's microstep 10x using original power supply 45vdc and 2 original motors and one that is newer but came with the machine. 2 sigma instruments and one rapidsyn dana, all are nema 42 The sigma's have no spec's and I can't uncover the spec's, and the rapidsyn rate the amps at 7.5. The gecko's are running wide open 7 amps, unipoler motors wired half winding. the sigma motor's seem tired and don't have much detent at all and rapidsyn has plenty. When I run a program like the spiral.nrg the sigma motor will stall in the change of direction part of the interpolation. It doesn't seem to stall when jogging at slow speed or rapid motion. max_volosity .65 max_acceleration 3.0 could these motor's need more current or are they used up There is some talk about repair, anyone with any experience with this ave. Wells quoted me $495. for used motors, I think I'll look elsewhere. Wondering what the people on the list think? Thanks again Al - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [Emc-users] wireless network campatiblity?EMC2 Live CD
Could someone give me a heads up on their experience with wireless network pci cards and routers? and the drivers that come packaged with the EMC2 live cd and what worked for them. Is the EMC2 live cd a striped down version of Ubuntu? I do not have a compiler installed so,I really have no way to compile a driver if need be, I ran into this dilemma with a winmodem already. I would like to get my Linux box online and networking also. Can a Linux machine and a windows machine be networked together, and access each others drives, and recognize each other? Sorry for posting here, but I am not sure what the Live cd has for drivers on board , and from some sights I see you may need to compile a driver to get up and running. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Re: [Emc-users] estop writes to toolchange pin out? more testing
The only difference is I us hardware estop force estop sense low, and when I release my estop button ,estop sense goes high and then I turn the machine on through the gui halui and off she goes ,I'm running EMC2.6.15 halui_halvcp configs My (standard pinout) file is below your response Jon Elson responded and said he has seen this behavior It happens every time for me no matter what GUI I use I still haven't wired my drives up Also when I call for a toolchange M6 T5 the spindle signal doesn't drop ,my relay logic stops my spindle and coolant for me but I assumed that this signal got dropped when requesting a toolchange? Jeff Epler Wed, 23 May 2007 07:56:41 -0700 Do you get this behavior with one of the sim configurations (e.g., sim/axis.ini, sim/tkemc.ini)? What is the exact sequence of operations you do (key presses, button clicks, etc) to make this happen? If you are not running the newest version of emc2 (2.1.5), does the problem still occur after you have upgraded? Based on your description of the problem, I loaded sim/axis.ini and did the following actions: F1 F2 (turn machine on) o cds.ngc RETURN (load gcode file) r (begin running gcode file) F1 (estop) F1 F2 (turn machine on again) At this point, the machine is still not moving. [Emc-users] estop writes to toolchange pin out? more testing
I have done more testing and found that when I put the machine in estop it jumps to the next line of code to be executed. Then when I bring it out of estop and push the machine on button it takes off to the next instruction and not finishing the previous line of code,it could be a rapid move! If the next line of code happened to be a tool change than the machine takes off without spindle rotation because of my relay logic is still waiting for a toolchange but the axis still move. Abort fixes the trouble but its one more thing to remember to do to stay out of trouble. It would be nice if abort was a must do or automatically done with machine on. is this everyone's problem or is it something I'm doing She's a runaway! - This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML. [Emc-users] why does the spindle signal not get droped when EMC2 goes into e stop?
when I put EMC2 into estop from halui the spindle signal stays true and the coolant signals goes false. the trouble is I can not clear the signal to the spindle until I'm out of estop and the spindle stays running. why does the coolant get dropped and not the spindle signal with it? what is the criteria for EMC2 to put itself into estop is it only limit switches? can this be a problem or should I not be concerned? one more question I used (halui.program.run) for a run program hardware button and the halui run button will not work now. can it be tied to both, or does it create duplicate signals, and it's one or the other?
