[Emc-users] Motion King Motors

2013-01-09 Thread Tim James
I have been reading the emails concerning these motors.

I recommended these motors and we have used about 40 of them without a problem.

We are using them with our own pcb utilising the AMC DZR servo amplifier
modules.

I would agree that your motor cables should be about 1.5 mm sq and be covered
with an overall screen connected to ground at the servo amplifier end.

The motor encoder and hall cables should also have an overall screen connected
to ground at the servo amplifier end.

One problem I did not fully appreciate was the current drawn by the two 26LS31
line driver integrated circuits mounted on the motor pcb and consequently the
volt drop over the cables we were using.

Have you measured the voltage on the pcb in the motor ?

When we experienced peculiar numbers of encoder counts being measured by our
servo amplifier we discovered we had only 4.75 volts at the motor end.

Increasing the supply voltage so that we had 4.9 volts at the motor end cured
the peculiar encoder counts.

Re: [Emc-users] linear scales Heidenhain

2012-12-14 Thread Tim James
If you want an in-expensive way to convert Heidenhain 11uA analogue sine wave
current output scale signals to TTl then Google 'IC Haus'.
They do an evaluation board for their chip 'iC-NV' which with the addition of 2
resistors will convert sine to square with interpolation values upto 16.

 Dear emc users,

I am an owner from a maho mhc 700c with a heidenhain tnc 135 controller.
The controller doesn t work any more.
I have read something about retrofitting. The most people use the Mesa
cards in combination with Linuxcnc. For already a few years (no time like
 everyone) I a bought a Heidenhain EXE 935 convertor ( 3 axis from sinus
wave to ttl signal) . The moment I bought these EXE 935 the Mesa 7i49 didnt
exist . In my opinion I have two options :

 Mesa 5i20 + Exe 935 + 7i33 and 2 x 7i37TA
 Mesa 5i20 + 7i49 + 2 x 737TA

Which are the advantages or disadvantages to use the EXE 935 ?? I prefer
without (the more I use the more can stop working)

Are You sure that linear scales have analog output?
I was offered to do a retrofit of Maho MH400P mill, so few months ago
I spent few hours going through a thick file of documentation and I
remember that I saw something about quadrature TTL signal. I did not
pay that much attention to it, because I was looking for instructions
how to remove the cover from hydraulic pump. It needs to be fixed and
that is a prerequisite for me to get that job.

Is there any chance that You have some useful information about
servicing hydraulic pump of Your mill? I suspect that they might be
 pretty similar.

Heidenhain linear scales are of 2 varieties, both analog sinus output
either 11uA p/p (older) or 1V p/p ( newer)
both output 2 out of phase sinus that are 'interpolated' to determine
the numeric value

some have a form of absolute encoding ( Linear Distance Coded), these
have an absolute mark every 2 cm
and homing is facilitated by moving past any 2 marks, yielding an
absolute position without going to extreme end

you can get info from heidenhain's website
on which EXE to use for the scales you have

a heidenhain cnc does not use these EXE's they work directly with the
control

it's 'sorta like a resolver' :)
and EXE boxes are expensive ( i got a set of 4 but i use them :| )

Tomp

Greetings all;

The thought has occurred to me that an alternative to using the iffy, and
because the pid.error is subject to slight variations due to non-
linearities of speeds, making any comp type trip off have a best guess as
to when to activate, seems like a SWAG at best.

So, how about a small current transformer around one of the wires leading
to the real fuse? Their consistency is good enough the power folks drive
their usage meters from them at the heavier load sites.

That then needs a way to get it into the machine via a spare pin on the
cnc2pc C1G card. E-Stop in most likely.

Does anyone have a URL where I could find a toroid suitable for developing
a logic level output from a 3 amp current flow, or the math to wind my own?

Thanks.

Cheers, Gene

Re: [Emc-users] Small servo motors

2012-09-01 Thread Tim James
Viesturs,
When I was looking for brushless servo motors with hall effect and encoder I
looked at Anaheim but also found a company called Motionking.
I am sure the Anaheim motors come from China where as Motionking is the english
supplier of a Chinese motor manufacturer called Apex Motor Company.
The Apex motor website is all in Chinese script !
We have used about 40 of these Chinese motors which we have wound with our own
Ke of 20 volts 1000rpm.
We have used these motors on our own machines using the Advanced Motion Control
DZRALTE amplifier modules on our own pcb.
You can have the Motionking motors customised to your own requirements and
delivery is about 3 weeks.
If you Google Motionking motors and look through to BLS motors you will find
the information you need.

Hello!

In my quest of finding small servo motors, I came across this company:
http://www.anaheimautomation.com/

I am particularly attracted to their BLWS232D-24V-4000 model.

I have 2 questions:
1) those motors have phases wired in delta scheme; is 7i39 drive
going to work with that?
2) do other users have any experience with this manufacturer? Could
You share some feedback?

2012/8/30 Viesturs Lācis viesturs.la...@gmail.com:
 Hello!

I am now sourcing parts for my next project - plasma table - and one
of the items on my list are servo motors.
I was thinking about Nema23 servos, planetary gearboxes and rack-and-pinion.

The problem is that Keling informed me that they do not have any
Nema23 or Nema34 servo motors in stock and it they will not restock
 them in nearest future.

I would appreciate, if You could share some sources of small servo
motors. I would prefer something that matches 7i39LV drive. Keling's
Nema23 motors have 36 VDC rated voltage, 7i39LV has 10 A peak current.

Re: [Emc-users] OT: 3D Printer Mods?

2012-05-30 Thread Tim James
I am involved with the automotive design industry and 3D printers are used
extensively for the manufacture of small parts for full size and scale
automotive models that cannot be machined from clay..
Traditionally we have manufactured clay milling machines but there is an
interest in large 3D printers so I am following the discussions with interest.

The thing is, what do you do with these parts? While I fully appreciate the
value of the learning, especially for children, people using EMC are
 perforce versed in CNC milling.

Yes, can I ask 3D printer owners to share the practical use of those prints?
Ok, I see that lots of different stuff can be made, like that Eiffel
tower, which would be real PIA to manufacture with mill (if that is
possible at all). But that is just a toy. And then it was mentioned
that different sculptures (at least that is how I understood it) can
be printed out. But also that is some decorative stuff...

Is there any practical use of 3D prints? Can it be useful to make
something like cases for MPG pendants or something else?
That is why I asked about the properties of material. If it is elastic
and bouncy, then I do not see lots of practical applications... If it
is hard, but very brittle, then IMHO it is troublesome too.

I just would like to understand, if it is something more than just
look, how nice is this.

[Emc-users] Live CD

2011-12-28 Thread Tim James
I have downloaded and burnt the Live CD 10.04.

It has worked on one desktop I tried but not on another or my laptop.

I only have the laptop with me at the moment so I would like to install Ubuntu
and EMC to find out more in conjunction with reading all the EMC manuals I have
printed out.

The laptop is a Panansonic Toughbook CF29,Windows XP,Pentium 4,756Mb ram.

From the users emails over the last few days I tried the ctrl/alt/f1and have
experimented with the f6 boot options.

The laptop appears to boot to a certain point and then the screen goes blank
and then 'hangs' with the power off button being the only option.

If I delete splash-- and replace it with vga=771 then the display remains on
and the laptop 'hangs' on pulseaudio configured for per-user sessions line.

I have tried some of the other f6 suggestions but not all as yet (I will wear
the power button out soon).

I don't know if I can add the options sequentially to the boot line or only
use one at a time.

Does anybody have any suggestions rather than me working through all the f6
options without really knowing which maybe causing the boot problem ?

Tim
