Re: [Emc-users] Isel Davinci G-code
I have been using Linux since 1997, so you preach to the converted. Unfortunately EMC does not work wioth Isel G-code at all. The machine communicates through a serail port not parallel. Unless some advances occurred with EMC the last past years that will drive the Isel it would be worth trying it again, but it never worked previous years. If all else fails I just have to write an interface myself. Gene Heskett wrote: On Wednesday 18 December 2013 23:18:21 ad...@mmri.us did opine: I have a small Davinci CNC that I bought years ago for prototyping, but never used as my larger CNC gets all the work. This is windows based code, so this is the wrong list. We may have heard of the name, but its safe to say we know relatively little about it. 2. In the GCode summary of the above pdf document, I see no reference to G17-G18-G19, which select the plane of the arc(s) it will move in. 3. Based on that, its a safe assumption that this code is hopelessly broken for what you want to do. 4. You can download, from linuxcnc.org, a cd image that will not only install linux, but linuxcnc at the same time. It may take a few days to fine tune the install for your uses, and it may take a day or 3 to get linuxcnc configured to drive your machine, likely much better than the Davinci code ever could. A network connection is assumed for all the updating that will be required since that cd image is now nearly 3 years old. I have a cat5 to all of my machines. 5. All this assumes the DaVinci interface is through a standard parallel port interface. It or even specialized wide data path cards are the standard for driving machines in real time. Serial ports are way too slow, ethernet has latencies that can destroy precision, and usb is even worse. So give it a try, I think you will be pleased. And if you do have problems, this IS the list to bring them to. So in effect you came to the right list after all. :) http://www.google.com/url?q=http://support.technocnc.com/support/0049_G CODE%2520STEPPER%2520DAVINCI.pdfsa=Uei=yGyyUo6bEZD7kQfL8oG4Dgved=0CB8 QFjAAusg=AFQjCNG9KI0a2ruQooY0rq5yVxaqd-XoSw Cheers, Gene -- Rapidly troubleshoot problems before they affect your business. [Emc-users] Question about end-burring.
Does anyone know if the concave (cavity version) version exist of a spherical or Cylindrical end-burr ? I have a lot of small rods I need to round the ends to half-spheres and it would be nice if such a bit exist and is out of luck coming up with a solution. What I mean by an end burr is this eg this see Cylindrical Ball Nose Burrs under http://www.american-carbide.com/Burs/CBProducts.php; What I need is the opposite of that burr, so that if I stick a wire into it, then the result will look like the cylindrical end burr. Re: [Emc-users] CAM solutions
I had BobCad and it truly sucks. It was a complete waste of money for us. They sold it to us twice promising that it would just take a few small edits to the G-code translator to get it to work with Isel machines. After 4 months they still could not translate to Isel and Bobcad was worthless after lots of money and time wasted. If I hear BobCad, I run and hide. Since most of our work is 2-dim and simple, the fastest way is just to write straight g-code which became a pleasure to work with compared to the enormous bogus claims made by bobcad to get it working with their software. I will not deal with them ever again. In the end simple won for me. I know 3-d would be a mess with G-code, working out all the toolpath constraints, but so far I did not need it, cross-fingers. Hope to find a good 3-d Cam for Linux though. Paul Keeton wrote: The company I work for uses both. Our preferred package is Synergy. We use it on our big production machine programs. I really liked browsing through your website. The furnace was nice! I have the holy fear working with propane, so I ask; Did you ever consider using a large TIG welder to create a small Arc oven? The Duty cycle on a Transformer Miller Tig seems to be good enough. or Do you know of someone who does this. I used to be on Eagle's usergroup years ago. It seems to have developed quite nicely. I already have 3 expensive schematic editors, nonewhich will output gcode. Really crazy. [Emc-users] Plasma Torch
Which Torch can cut the narrowest and most accurate cut? I know the width of cut is dependent on cutting gas pressure, but I would be pretty sure that an inverter type power source would also give narrower cuts than a transformer based source due to the higher frequency used. So in general; 1) What is the narrowest I can go, and how do I achieve it. 2) What is the difference in cutting width between air only cutters and full shielding and cutting gas torches. 3) I have a free Miller Syncrowave 200 TIG free, is it possible to use the TIG as the power source? I cannot see why not, voltage is voltage and current is current and the TIG can deliver what the torch power sources can too. 4) As I have a CNC table free I can use to automate the process, the holdup for me is to select the best Torch at the best price. thanks -- ___ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
