Does your INI have #include statements in it?
It appears that those puzzle the update_ini script

That's quite a problem, and I recently stumbled over a pile of logitech
k-360's which have square sided keys, which don't jam as easily, and
bought the pile. Acer also has a maskless keyboard which doesn't jam a
key down very often, but it has so many "media keys" along the edges
that there is no place to grab it and pick it up to take it closer to
the machine while doing the setup. Pressing one of those keys, which may
do all sorts of odd things is unavoidable. So I keep it for emergency
use only. Its also about an inch taller, and 4 or 5 inches longer than
the k-360. The k-360 is a bit smaller than most $20 keyboards.

yes, very busy. Looking something up there is for training I guess, but
looking up the shortcut can't be called a shortcut. :) You've got to
commit them to muscle memory before hand. Unforch, I've reached that
age, 84, where the short term memory darned near isn't.

Yeah, I thought my keyboard had picked up some chips, except other stuff
in the linux environment responded to those keys correctly.

The quick reference sheet under the help menu shows all the shortcut keys.

I have not checked out all of the shortcut keys, so there my be others that

F9 and F10 can start/stop the spindle? Never knew that. I'd assume the
Snumber had been previously set? I'll be, fired up the pi and tried it
on the sheldon, which has all motor power tied to the motion enable (F2)
button, and its the same as the fwd/rev/stop icons. I'm set up for a
default speed of 100 revs with the drive belt in the slowest grooves,
but if I want faster I have to click on the + icon. No spindle pid in
that setup, the encoder is basically the feed reference only, to make a
G33.1 and G76 work.

I just found that F9 toggles between fwd and stop, F10 is rev/stop and
the F12 is increment up and F11 is increment down. Handier than the
mouse since my mouse has only a wee bit of space to play in. Keeps
either bumping its nose or backing into the 1/4" high fence that keeps
most stuff from jiggling off the keyboard table.

If its derived from a wcomp, reading a spindle encoder it should be okay?
I didn't check that for g33.1 or g76 functions on either machine, too
hot to muck around much in the shed with TLM. I have an led on that
signal on TLM, and it did seem to be working.

I did, still had to add the .0. to the halui-spindle stuffs. Tach on TLM
works, doesn't on the G0704. Probably need to fix that signal path, but
not sure how, lots of spindle related stuff in the halmeter doesn't work
on both machines. But at least both will run again. Since the tach is
related to the spindle, it should reference by the same .0. mechanism.
Which may be why the tach on the g0704 isn't working, but if that were
true, why is the tach on TLM still working?

Works wonders, _IF_ the motor power is turned ON. :)

So I'll go hide in the corner while the glue is setting for the power
brushes on the laser extension.

My power slaving on the sheldon is spoiling me. If F2 is released, all
motor power on the Sheldon is turned off, including the VFD. I should
rig something similar on the other 3 machines, but they don't have the
extensive i/o choices the Sheldon has with its 7i90HD as 2&3 of the
other 3 are running on 5i25's & the first one is still bit banging a
parport. One the job training I think they call that.

the message about joint-axis is confusing, it just converts the spindle names.

[Emc-users] new linuxcnc today, wants to rerun update_ini again

2018-10-07 Thread Gene Heskett
And it wants to do it on both machines I've updated today.

Checking the file, it was new yesterday.

Is it safe? Joints merger has been done once, and I had to do a fair bit
of sorting to recover.

Doesn't look as if its safe:

gene@lathe:~/linuxcnc/configs/my_LinuxCNC_machine2$ linuxcnc -l
LINUXCNC - 2.8.0-pre1-3898-g6c5404a
Machine configuration directory
is '/home/gene/linuxcnc/configs/my_LinuxCNC_machine2'
Machine configuration file is 'my_LinuxCNC_machine2.ini'
Starting LinuxCNC...
.
Found file(REL): ./my_LinuxCNC_machine2.hal
./my_LinuxCNC_machine2.hal:452: Pin 'halui.spindle.forward' does not
exist
Shutting down and cleaning up LinuxCNC...
Running HAL shutdown script
LinuxCNC terminated with an error. You can find more information in the
log:
/home/gene/linuxcnc_debug.txt
and
/home/gene/linuxcnc_print.txt
as well as in the output of the shell command 'dmesg' and in the terminal

Just one comment, that pin does exist in both the old and new versions of
my_LinuxCNC_machine2.hal.

So something has renamed, or deleted that pin. And likely other
associated pins since halui.spindle.reverse is next in that list.

Fix?
