[Evolution-hackers] Mouse grabs ...

2002-03-01 Thread Michael Meeks

Hi Guys,

A nasty moan - I have had to kill evolution 3 times today because of
leaked mouse grabs D&D mails from evolution-mail to the shell tree view.
The leak appears to be in evolution-mail inasmuch that killing that
process frees up the system.

I'd love to fix it, but it's not worth my time to consume an hour
re-building evolution and bug hunting only to find that it's already
fixed.

So - what is the status / problem with the snapshots ? who is
responsible for this ? I'm very happy to do the work - but I need some
support.

Regards,

Michael.

Hm, I don't know anything about this bug, but I don't think it's fixed
in the snapshots. Fejj is the one to bug about it...

Re: [Evolution-hackers] Mouse grabs ...

I've nothing to add other than a "me too". It seems that what happens
is this...

1) I select a message from the top-right "list" pane and drag it over to
my folder tree on the left
2) a refresh happens in the folder list on the left
3) my mouse cursor permanently turns into the "I'm dragging something"
icon and doesn't come back unless I "killev"

My learned workaround is to drag and drop REALLY quickly and try to make
sure I don't time it anywhere near a "refresh" in the folder list pane.

I'm beggining to think it might be related to the mail being marked
'read' in mid D&D,

But that might be nonsense,

Michael.

I don't seem to be able to trigger that...

Re: [Evolution-hackers] Mouse grabs ...

2002-03-06 Thread Jason 'vanRijn' Kasper

Okay. This just happened to me again. I was dragging one e-mail from
my "Inbox" to a different folder and as soon as I released the mouse
button, the e-mail in my top-right pane got a line through it,
indicating that it was now deleted from the inbox, the focus of the left
pane tried to change from my destination mailbox back to my inbox, but
got hosed up somewhere, and my mouse cursor is permanently stuck with
the "I'm dragging and dropping" cursor. Nothing responds to keystroke
or mouse click. The only solution is to to a different
VT and kill evolution-mail.

How can I help debug this? It's bitten me more times than I care to
remember. I tried to "gdb evolution `pidof evolution`", but that didn't
do a whit of good.

I'm running debian unstable, using Maildir, and am running evolution
1.0.2.

You'd have to be running the gdb from outside of X. Next time it
happens, try switching to another vt, attaching a gdb to evolution-mail,
and seeing if it's doing anything interesting/suspicious ("thread apply
all bt" is a good start). I'm not sure if it would be anything that
would be visible at that point though...

Has anyone been able to reproduce with the current development branch?
I've so far only tried it 4 or 5 times, but so far have not encountered
this problem.

I'm beggining to think it's a sawfish problem, inasmuch that sawfish
seems to behave very oddly on my machine at the moment, I'm using
sawfish-2 so I'm going to blame that for a while. I'd be interest to
know if other people suffering are using the stable sawfish.

However - evolution snapshots are still not available - which is quite
amazing to me, and no one seems to want to own up as responsible.

Regards,

Michael.

I'm running KDE2 and seeing this same issue, and also had this problem
with blackbox, so I don't think it's a window-manager-specific problem.
