No, we are not using gecko.  Is rendering the text slow or just the
images?  If it is the text is there a lot of text?  The development
version of gtkhtml (the html rendering engine we do use) is
significantly faster than the stable branch under almost all
circumstances, but we're still looking for places we can improve.

can you create a backtrace of the evoluiton-mail process and all its
threads, and also a log of server activity upto the point of failure,
set CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1 in your environment and run evolution-mail in
a separate window (in gdb) before starting evolution.  When it fails,
ctrl-c it and run 'thread apply all bt'.
