Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ Dynamic criterion range for Advanced filtering

To automatically track the criterion range area for advanced filtering
when adding a value on the next row in the criterion range (so that I
can filter Value A OR Value B), I want to make the criterion range
dynamic. However, when repeating the Advanced filter command after
inputting Value B on the second row, the Advanced filter command makes
the criterion range static again, e.g. :

The dynamic range correctly tracks the criterion range to be two rows
for Value A (Heading row and first value row). Now I add Value B to
another field on the second value row. When repeating the Advanced
filter, the criterion range has been converted to a static X1:Y2 range
(for two fields). I want the criterion range to remain dynamic to
track the range as now X1:Y3.

How do I overcome this problem, without resorting to VBA (which is an
easy work around but does not give me the flexibility I want.)

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Any way to use customer icons with conditional formatting?

2010-02-02 Thread Christopher Luka
One easy way to do it is to use the camera tool named ranges. The basic
idea is contained in the link below. You'd just swap out the traffic lights
for your own icons.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ how to declare define global range in vba

2010-02-02 Thread Paul Schreiner
What module are you putting the declaration in?
For instance, if you right-click on a sheet tab and select View Code
it opens up the VBA Sheet Module.
You'll notice a module called ThisWorkBook
If you create standard Modules, there will be a folder called Modules
and a list of modules (default names are Module1, Module2)
A standard module will be created if you record a macro.

You cannot declare Public variables in Sheet modules.
They MUST be in 'standard' modules.
Although they MIGHT be allowed in 'class' modules, but not in form modules.

Next.
You can DECLARE it using:
Public

but I think you have to SET it within a macro.
I THINK basically it's because sheets and ranges are dynamic
and you're trying to treat a variable as a constant
But I could be wrong.

$$Excel-Macros$$ How to stop a loop when a condition is met, but then resume?

2010-02-02 Thread ajava
I have a spreadsheet that contains a list. I need to evaluate all of
the cells in a particular column. I want the code to step through
each cell in the column and, if the color index of the cell is RED
(color index = 3), I want the code to stop so that I can look at the
spreadsheet and make a decision (nothing to do with the code). Once
the decision has been made, I want to be able to continue running the
code and continue evaluating the cells in the column, until the values
in the column end. Is this something that is possible? Thanks!

First of all, you've not asked a question.
You have a scrollable box that displays up to 50 entries,

in a userform, a scrollbox is a box that can have a large number of entries,
and the scroll portion allows the user to see the entries that are not
 displayed.

Seems like all is right with the world...
 so what's the problem?

also, I'm confused about your terminology.
Microsoft has three distinct products called:
 Visual Basic (VB)
 Visual Basic Script (VBS)
 Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)

VBA runs within excel and can have userforms.
Visual Basic runs in Windows and can have userforms.
Visual Basic Script runs in Windows and DOES NOT have userforms, and
 generally isn't the
best application to use to create menus (no checkboxes, or option buttons.
 just yes/no/cancel/abort/retry)

You said that you're using visual basic script to form a menu at the top of
 your screen.
menu's are generally part of the toolbar of an Application, not at the top
 of the screen,

So, are you really using VBA to create a scrollable menu item in the Excel
 toolbar?

and once again, if the item is scrollable, WHY would you want it to show 200
 items all at once?

I think we need some clarification (or at least *I* do!)

 sorry,

 Paul

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ Forms in Visual basic scroll bar problem

Hi all, new to this group so please bear with me.
The question I have is this...
I have a spreadsheet with several pages each with a list of components
 on them.
I then have a visual basic script to form a menu at the top of my
screen which allows it to call up a form for users to fill in details
and select items from a form page to create the spreadsheet.
The problem I have is for instance:-
Page 1 on my spreadsheet has 200 items on it
Page 1 on my form to fill in has a scroll box which only allows it to
 view around 50 lines
Any ideas? A screen shot can be taken of the form or I can send the
spreadsheet to anyone who can help
 Kind regards in anticipation
 Andy

$$Excel-Macros$$ Help on this task please

2010-02-02 Thread Dave
I have the code listed below that searches a folder and if it finds
any PDF files its displays them with a hyperlink in the spreadsheet.
My
problem is that under the MAIN folder I have tons of files now and
its very hard to find the PDF I am looking for.

I redid my file structure under main and now I have folders for years
2010, 2012,2013,2014,2015 and so on. Under each years directory are
the
directories for the 12 months of the year under each of these
months I have two folders A-cast B-cast.

What I would like is that the code could search the folders starting
form MAIN by prompting the user for the year, than the month then
the folder name And then display contents of the folder as results
on the spreadsheet If a user did not have lets say the folder names
A- cast B-cast the program could display contents of both A-cast B-
cast.

Here is the code I got from the forum.

Sub all_2010()
' Macro to searh display PDf files
Dim i As Long
With Application.FileSearch
.NewSearch

.Filename = *.pdf

Hi Paul,

I have been using the Standard module. The idea is to create an add-in.

The problem is that I have to use a particular range in different modules
and different procedures but i don't want to define them in each procedure.
Any idea ?

Thank you.

What module are you putting the declaration in?
For instance, if you right-click on a sheet tab and select View Code

You'll notice a module called ThisWorkBook
If you create standard Modules, there will be a folder called Modules
and a list of modules (default names are Module1, Module2)
A standard module will be created if you record a macro.

You cannot declare Public variables in Sheet modules.
They MUST be in 'standard' modules.
Although they MIGHT be allowed in 'class' modules, but not in form
 modules.
 Next.
 You can DECLARE it using:
 Public
but I think you have to SET it within a macro.
I THINK basically it's because sheets and ranges are dynamic
and you're trying to treat a variable as a constant
 But I could be wrong.
