Annoying Embedded Document Error
Hello I am having the following problem. I have a custom form in which is embedded a couple of Word documents. Sometimes, it happens that some users (not necessarily at the same time) that when they try to open a document, they receive the following error message: "Can't create file: Myfile.doc. Right Click the folder you want to create the file In and then click properties and check your permissions for the folder". Once this happens, the user that has the problem cannot open all documents of the same type until they remove their Windows user profile and recreate a new one. As such, they do not have the problem if they logon to another computer. It is important to note that the same form contains other Word documents, but the error occurs on a particular document type, that may vary from one user to the other. For instance, if user X has a problem with documents of type A in all Outlook forms, user B might have the same problem but with documents of type B. I have faced this problem before on more than one user/Station and the only solution I found was to delete the Windows user profile. Recreating a new Outlook profile for the user does not solve the problem. It is becoming very annoying to solve this problem in this manner. Does anyone know why this is occurring or where does outlook open these files locally? Any help is much appreciated. IM not connecting
Hi gurus, I'm (still) setting up a new Exchange 2k server to migrate our existing 5.5 server. Everything's working fine, BUT IM. I have created (and recreated around 20 times by now) an IM virtual server, installed IM client, checked the DNS entries, etc. as per microsoft step-by-step documentation... I have installed IM client on the Exchange server itself (to avoid routing/port/firewall issues). But I keep getting the 'Sign In To Exchange' dialog box telling me that "The person logged on to this computer does not have permission to use the specified e-mail address. Please type your e-mail address and password" asking me for my E-Mail, Username, Password and Domain. I'm logged in as myself, and I'm a Schema/Domain/Enterprise admin. I'm trying to connect using my own IM account. Any ideas? Where are my NDRs?
All, We upgraded from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2k and ever since the upgrade we have been unable to get NDRs sent to the DL for mail admins. (I realize it is no longer a DL.) We didn't upgrade the 5.5 box, rather we upgraded to a front end/back end clustered environment. one of our admins thinks it has to do with the FE/BE configuration. Are there any special considerations I need to take into account to simply get NDRs? Missing Court Notifications
I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior. We have an attorney and his secretary who are both set up to receive notifications from one of the courts here in Washington State. These notifications are sent to BCC addresses with nothing in the To field, so the messages received by the attorney and secretary appear for all the world to be identical, with only the id number assigned by the IMC showing otherwise. The secretary is set up as an alternate recipient for the attorney, so normally she receives two, apparently identical, notifications at a time. Sporadically, however, she will only get one, and in the one instance I've been able to investigate fully, it was the one sent to the attorney. My question is this, is it possible that Exchange is seeing these messages as duplicates and therefore only delivering it once, in the same way that if one is in two DLs both of which are sent a message, the message will only be delivered once? The messages did arrive at the IMC seperately, but they both arrived in the same second. -Peter __ This message is private or privileged. Is the name of the message file that you're dropping in the pickup directory by any chance the same as a filename you've used previously? I've been reading through the support site and so far nothing matches this error and the fixes I have tried doesn't seem to solve it. Anyone have any ideas? I'm still waiting for the PSS person to call back but thought I would ask the brains in here first :) Thanks in advance. Routing Change
One of the last things that I need to do in my Ex5.5 site before removing the last server and going native is to redo the "routing". Now, I have an E2k setup with 2 Front-ends and 2 back-end servers. On my last 5.5 server I need to have one of these servers take over the routing. Should I have one of the front-end servers be designated as the routing server? Or does removing the ex5.5 force the routing tables to be rebuilt with the 1st ex2000 server being assigned as the routing server? RE: OWA Setup on a different machine on EX5.5
??? OWA is an Exchange feature, which is a little more specific than a IIS/W2K feature. The best I would imagine you can do is to use an E2K front-end server, but then you would naturally have to upgrade to Exchange 2000 enterprise edition. -Original Message- From: Alex Alborzfard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, August 26, 2002 10:46 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: OWA Setup on a different machine on EX5.5 EX 5.5, SP4 on NT4 SP6 I need to move OWA to another server than EX box. I have heard that there is really only 1 fruitcakeand that people keep shipping it to each other(to unload it...talk about not being welcome...it must have some kind of complex). Stale? never..also Ive heard that the chemical makeup of said... is such that it is impossible for it to go stale...so by it's nature it is as it was created and always will be... RE: HP/Compaq EVA
If it's all one disk group, then performance will be at the least common denominator of the various virtual disk architectures at best. So, do you care? I dunno. RAID5 runs about 4x slower than RAID1 on writes in many cases, so unless there are 4x spindles available in the disk group, you're worse off without even looking at the application. Exchange log performance is optimized by having dedicated spindles that don't have to re-seek for every write. So beyond the difference in RAID level write performance, you have an application level difference. If they're saying that the EVA will give you the same number of I/O's for both the logs and the databases as you would have seen for just the logs on a standalone set of spindles, then go for it. What's not stated is what your performance needs are. What I/O rate will the EVA deliver to the log volume on a sustainable basis? Is that enough to support your user load? Any other question is just an academic exercise. === Andy Webb[EMAIL PROTECTED] www.swinc.com Simpler-Webb, Inc. Austin, TX512-322-0071 === -Original Message- From: Rosenthal, Daniel A. As I understand it, splitting this group into 2 or more will reduce the number of spindles, reduce the EVA-based fault protection and reduce the overall performance. bob -- Do a quick check to see if your firewall is locking you down to tight: you probably have something like this in your pix config: no fixup protocol smtp 25 conduit permit tcp host x.x.x.x eq smtp any (hitcnt=) conduit permit tcp host x.x.x.x eq 443 any (hitcnt=) where x.x.x.x is the outside IP of your exchange server = Make this change: conduit permit tcp host x.x.x.x eq any (then you have to do a "clear xlate") Now try sending mail. If it works, you have a firewall config issue. I'd suggest opening port 80 next (maybe the firewall is preventing outside dns lookups?). Also, try pinging some outside places from the exchange server --- some places you've never been, like www.unc.edu (that's our site) Good luck! Exchange 5.5 in SBS 4.5 w/SP6 - Shared Calendar Problem
We have a problem where several users who were sharing their Outlook Calendars for a long period of time, were not able to use the Calendar any more. "Error: The itme could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted or moved, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the default folder for the item?" This occurred shortly after our main SBS4.5 SCSI HDD would no longer boot up NT4.0/SP6. The mirror drive was used and the main drive taken off line for warranty replacement. We suspect the mirror drive was not a 100% mirror of the exchange and that some data is missing or corrupted on the mirror drive. Any ideas on what this could be? _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: HP/Compaq EVA
As I understand it we will have exclusive access to a disk group; the other disk group in the EVA will be used for other apps. With that assumption do we care about the differences between vraid1 and vraid5 when all the physical volumes will be within this disk group? As I understand it, splitting this group into 2 or more will reduce the number of spindles, reduce the EVA-based fault protection and reduce the overall performance. PowerControls for Exchange
We are investigating the use of the product below - have any of you guys used it? If so, any comments on its usage? Thanks in advance, Miles <> Ok you guys have to check this out, it's called PowerControls, by Ontrack (the famous data recovery company). http://www.ontrack.com/powercontrols/ It will actually open an offline .edb database in its entirety and lets you recover data from it directly to a pst. Basically it renders brick level backups obsoletebut it can also search through the database as well. I tested it and it actually works. Single server pricing is $950, which isn't all that bad considering what it does. We need this tool. _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
