Reinstalling OWA

2003-02-03 Thread Eve Jimah
My platform is windows NT4 with Exchange 5.5. I need
to change the location of my OWA from the current NT4
box to a windows 2000 server box. When OWA was
installed on my network, setup was run on the exchange
server and the path for installation of OWA was our
intranet server which had IIS. So to connect to OWA
you have to go through the intranet server, which is
what we wanted.

Now my problem is the intranet server has crashed and
we have replaced it with a windows 2000 box, how can I
re install OWA on the new windows 2000 server. Do I
run setup again on my exchange server selecting the
new win2k server as my OWA, or do I have to remove the
previous instance of owa on the exchange server before
a new installation. We will be migrating to win2k in
the near future hence the win2k server.

Please help.

Thanks

Any Exchange-connected fax product can receive faxes and
 forward them to a
designated Exchange mailbox. I don't know if WinFax Pro has
 this ability or
 not.

We use Faxination (www.faxination.com). GFI's Faxmaker would
 work also and
is probably less expensive. With each you also have the
 ability to send
faxes from client machines. That may not be one of your
 requirements but it
is an significant productivity booster. I have Visioneer
 Strobe scanners on
each desktop and being able to scan and send saves a lot of
 time for the
users. All sending and receiving is handled through Outlook.

 Hi All,

We receive a low volume of faxes and send even less. I am
 interested in
finding a simple and inexpensive way to forward faxes to an
 email address on
my Exchange 5.5 server. We are not interested in allowing
 folk to fax from
their PC. Ideally, I would like to find an appliance that
 could do this for
us... Receive a fax and forward it to a single email address.

If anyone has ever seen such a device or you have any other
 suggestions,
 please let me know.

 TIA,

 Aaron

RE: Sybari Antigen Problems with Exchange 5.5

2003-02-03 Thread Marc Mearns
Users

1. There is performance issues with the product and there is a special hot fix for 6.5
for performance issues
2. I believe that Sybari is working on the hotfix for 7 as well.
3. Can I suggest that you get onto sybari and raise your concerns.
4. I would highly recommend that you use max scanning on your connectors servers and
for smtp scanning on your mailbox servers.
5. You don't need max scanning on the store

Also have you tried setting it to Max Performance mode with only one
scanner selected? This will help.

If your servers were already busy before installing Antigen then it can
cause performance problems. Take a good look at the performance counters
for disk queues, CPU, etc and see where the bottleneck lies. We found a
few servers needed extra memory to counter some disk queue issues after
installing both Antigen and a monitoring agent.

Sybari Tech support may also point you to some hotfixes to improve the way
it handles certain messages - e.g. zipped attachments.

rgrds

Mark

I had some performance issues on an earlier build when I goofed and didn't follow
their recommended upgrade procedure of unhooking Antigen from Exchange before doing
the update. This was on an Exch 5.5 sp4 and Win 2K sp3 server. The sp1 version's
working very well here, however.

I'd agree, though, that you should give Sybari tech support a call. They're pretty
responsive.

Removing an EX2000 Server

2003-02-03 Thread Gonzalez, Alex
To all:

I am decommissioning an EX2000 server from our environment. It was the
first server that was built so I moved the routing master to another
server. Every time I shut the server to be decommissioned down
free/busy time blows up. Am I missing something? This is the first
time that I have ever had to decommission a server so I may have missed
something. I just don't want to delete it from the organization without
knowing everything is complete first. The only thing I can find about
decommissioning anything with EX2000 is when switching to native mode.
The environment is all EX2000 SP3 and we are running native mode.

Thanks,

Alex

just download the source and read _ALL_ the READMEs .. make sure to do this
in all the sub-dirs (but the top level README tells you where to look and
what to read). The src distribution is more current than the bat and covers
other newer features (e.g. milter) .. however.. the bat book is useful for
debugging.. but this starts to get too involved for a newbie.

You have my sympathies, having just been there done that. You can email me
offline for many notes, links etc. I also probably know the answer to your
m4 sendmail.mc sendmail.cf issue.

MS recieves alot of beatings for security, pricing, licensing (hate it) etc
but the programs are much easier to figure out and get running.

I have the Bat Book.

I just miss the basics of LINUX really. For example, I have installed
REDHAT8.0 and I cannot compile macro files to make changes to the
sendmail.cf
file. It says silly little things like 'command not found' etc...

I only installed LINUX a few days ago, so we are just getting to know
each
other. At the moment its like a bad date, its doing all the talking and
tell
me whats wrong with life and I can't get a word in edge ways !

The batbook by O'Reilly is excellent..if your going to play with

Subject: Removing an EX2000 Server

Thanks,

Alex

Public Folder Storage Limits

2003-02-03 Thread Microsoft Exchange Discussions
In Exchange 2000, they now have storage limits for Public Folders.
My question is how do you limit a tree of folders to a certain size?
For example, if you grant someone permissions to a public folder and limit the space
to 10 mg but allow him to create subfolders, he can create an unlimited amount of
subfolders all with 10 mg limits. Without taking away creation of sub folders, how do
you limit him to 10 mg?

Public folder storage limits apply to individual folders only, which
means that they're useful only as a guard against a mail loop or faulty

Server Recovery Assistance PLEASE!

2003-02-03 Thread Parrnelli GS11 Ben T
Greetings:

Exchange 5.5 SP4
Windows NT4 SP6 SRP

Just for fun, my server decided to give me a no boot device found error
when I started it up this morning. I ensured the RAIDs were all good, then
called Dell tech support. He had me boot from a 2000 CD and examine the C
drive which has empty except for a couple of dirs. He suggested I try a
repair or parallel install. Hindsight, what I was actually looking at was
the D: partition, but I've already reinstalled the OS so it doesn't really
matter now.

The question.

I have my priv and pub still intact and would like to reinstall Exchange and
simply move these DBs back to their original locations. Is this possible?
I found an article from Rich Matheison on how to do this, but he has the
server built in a new site with the same org and site name. How would I get
it back to the original site? Should I delete the old server name from the
site then install exchange and move the DBs?

I'm stuck and the clock is ticking! Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated!

Changing from dual homed to single NIC

2003-02-03 Thread Mike Strock
I am in the process of planning to move my Exchange 5.5 server from one location to
another. At the old location, the machine was running with two NICs. One internal IP
and one external IP. When we move to the new location, I will be putting the machine
behind a firewall and would like to just have the single NIC activated. The machine
will be exposed to the Internet via ports 25 and 110 only (no OWA on this domain).

Can I do this, or do I need to re-install Exchange?

Re: Public Folder Storage Limits

2003-02-03 Thread Chris Scharff
Exchange doesn't really have a built in way to do that (I haven't tried in
E2K, but in 5.5 limits were just warnings and users could keep putting in
mail to their heart's content). I'd think it may be worthwhile to step back
and look at how and why PFs are used in your organization.

Without knowing exactly how they are used in your org, let me present a
typical scenario...

There are some public folders which contain information for all employees
(HR manual, holidays doc, etc) and then for other groups within the company
(Auto Insurance, Home Owners Insurance, Accounting) there are PFs created
for workflow or departmental sharing. For these groups, establishing a total
quota for all PF usage seems to make sense and then those groups can manage
their quotas within those limits. It helps if the PF hierarchy maps to this
in same way

How I'd manage it... If they need additional space, bill them for the
additional space. Let them create whatever they want/need for PFs and usage
within their hierachy and provide them with a detailed report on a monthly
basis with their usage and a charge to their department for any overage.

If that doesn't work, you could likely write a server side script or event
to enforce storage limits, but it might be a bit tricky. www.cdolive.com
would be a good place to start on a scripted solution.

RE: Server Recovery Assistance PLEASE!

2003-02-03 Thread knighTslayer
Ben,

You are replacing the server in the domain with the same name, SID and
version of OS with relevant services packs (important). Replacing the
DB's and patching them with 'isinteg -patch' will get you back to where
you where before the crash. That is if your DB's where closed cleanly.

i.e., the server should have the same IP and name as the one that died.
You are just replacing the data.

Follow-on to the below. I have found MS Article 155216 which pretty
much
describes what I think I need to do. However, I'm still not clear on
the
new site thing. If I create a new site with the same org and site name,
copy the priv, pub, dir to their correct locations, how does the
server
rejoin the original site?

Thanks again.

Greetings:

Exchange 5.5 SP4
Windows NT4 SP6 SRP

Just for fun, my server decided to give me a no boot device found
error
when I started it up this morning. I ensured the RAIDs were all good,
then
called Dell tech support. He had me boot from a 2000 CD and examine the
C
drive which has empty except for a couple of dirs. He suggested I try a
repair or parallel install. Hindsight, what I was actually looking at
was
the D: partition, but I've already reinstalled the OS so it doesn't
really
matter now.

The question.

I have my priv and pub still intact and would like to reinstall Exchange
and
simply move these DBs back to their original locations. Is this
possible?
I found an article from Rich Matheison on how to do this, but he has the
server built in a new site with the same org and site name. How would I
get
it back to the original site? Should I delete the old server name from
the
site then install exchange and move the DBs?

I'm stuck and the clock is ticking! Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated!

2003-02-03 Thread Tim John
I use a workaround for DL we use. I have a public folder with an SMTP
address and either include it in the DL or email this address and cc or bcc
the DL. The reply address for the email sent out is then set to the address
of another folder we use for incoming email.

It's belts and braces, but seems to work !

Move Server Problem w/ permissions

2003-02-03 Thread Lynne July
This past weekend, I combined 2 sites using the Move Server wizard from the
Exchange 5.5 SP4 CD. Everything seemed to go fairly well, except now we're
finding that the permissions aren't quite right. For users who were moved,
they can not resend messages (which were created prior to the move) and
although they can make updates to meetings, they can't send the updates to
anyone. In both situations, the same error is displayed you do not have
permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user.

I've found a KB article (258958) which kind of addresses the issue, but only
as regards to delegate permission. This article suggests using MBInfo
display the permissions to see if they are correct. I don't think that will
help my situation though, since the user already has access to his/her own
mailbox...

Any ideas on how to fix?

Many thanks.

Re: Move Server Problem w/ permissions

How about KB article 302669?

This past weekend, I combined 2 sites using the Move Server wizard from the
Exchange 5.5 SP4 CD. Everything seemed to go fairly well, except now we're
finding that the permissions aren't quite right. For users who were moved,
they can not resend messages (which were created prior to the move) and
although they can make updates to meetings, they can't send the updates to
anyone. In both situations, the same error is displayed you do not have
permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user.

I've found a KB article (258958) which kind of addresses the issue, but only

RE: redhat 8 and sendmail forums

PROBLEM SOLVED

Roger,

This is fantastic, though I do feel that I am cheating!!!

A massive thank you for your help and also Allison, Jacob, Bill, Jim,
Mike, Allan and Christopher.:)

To summarise my problem:

I needed to get email sent to a certain domain masqueraded, that is the
header AND the envelope. To do this I had to use SENDMAIL. I used the
latest version of REDHAT8.0, SENDMAIL 8 and the m4 compiler.

The product, Webmin, a free open source package helped a GUI bred
administrator get through Linux commands.

The following url's helped greatly:-

www.webmin.net
www.redhat.com/support
www.sendmail.org
www.siliconvalleyccie.com/sendmail.htm

For m4 compiler:-

http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/rawhide/1.0/i386/RedHat/RPMS/m4-1.4.1-12.i3
86.html

more detailed info:-
For some strange reason, installing a custom REDHAT8.0 machine in text
only mode with just SENDMAIL and its required dependencies screwed up
the m4 compiler. The symptom I got was that every time I tried to
compile a macro file I would get 'command not found'. To resolve this,
I downloaded the latest m4 compiler from the REDHAT rpms download area
and installed the package with the -U switch (upgrade). This then
brought everything back together.

Thanks

Why not download and install webmin to configure your sendmail?
Personally
I use Postfix on my Redhat 7.2 box. I have found that I like Postfix a
LOT
better than sendmail. And I use webmin on both Linux, AIX, and FreeBSD
to
do a lot of the configuration.

The batbook by O'Reilly is excellent..if your going to play with
 sendmail..buy it..

Be careful using Webmin. It's a great product and it makes using Linux a
lot easier but nothing beats learning how to do things via the command
line
