GFI has a free virusscanner with some content scanning ability. I
haven't really looked at it (cuz we've been using Trend), but it might
be useful for you.

Permissions changing on pickup directory

2003-09-29 Thread Chris Levis
I have a couple of webpages using CDO to send mail. For them to work, I
have to give IWAM_server write access to the pickup directory of my
Exch2k-SP3 server. So I give IWAM those rights and the pages work fine.
However, we try out the webpage again a few hours later, and we get an
"access denied" error. So I look at the permissions on the pickup
directory and see that IWAM has been removed. I assume Exchange has
repermissioned pickup to be tighter. So I tried changing it again (and
unchecking "inherit permissions from parent.."), and again it works for
a while before breaking.

Am I supposed to be doing this a different way?

Thanks!

They are taking up space... Otherwise you wouldn't see them.

Your "Keep deleted items for (days): " option is >0. Check the mailbox

Your 2nd point was my D'oh-Factor. NTFS-DOS (the $$ one) does provide
rwx. I'm almost certain it wouldn't work with SW raid, but maybe with
HW raid. I've never been in a position to try.

OWA asking for Office 2000 Disk?

2003-02-19 Thread Chris Levis
--Oops... hit Ctrl-Enter by accident on that last one! Anyway, I got
this message from a user today:

"Several times over the past couple of weeks, mayvbe longer, I've
noticed a weird anomaly on remote access to Outlook, through Insider.
When I reply to a message, a Windows Office 2000 Installer pops up,
repeatedly, and I just keep cancelling it until it stops popping up. Any
other reports of this? Any ideas about what is causing it? Please
advise."

The knowledge base was no help, and I've never heard of something like
this before... This is experienced on his home machine, as he is OWAing
into his work mail. He is running Win2k Pro, and I am running Exch2k
SP3 on Win2k. Any ideas?

OWA HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error

2003-02-12 Thread Chris Levis
(Exch2k SP3 on Win2k SP3)

Hmm. I'm getting this error: HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error, when
users are logging in to OWA. The folder list appears and populates just
fine, but that error appears in what would be the (bigger pane) item
listing.

Interestingly enough, if the user clicks "Calendar", their calendar will
appear in the big pane But all other folders result in the error.

A google and MSKB search only mentions old browsers and free-busy
stuff Nothing that seems to apply to me.

Anyone seen this before?

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'

2003-02-07 Thread Chris Levis
(cross-posted, since this issue seems to lie on the border)

My web app is broken:

I have an asp page with a form. Upon submission of this form, people
are notified using CDONTS. It worked last week, but it does not anymore
(tho everyone insists that nothing was changed/installed).

Now, when the form is submitted, I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'
Permission denied
/secure/MapRequest/mailrequest.asp, line 87

I have followed the suggestions in Q197619 (i.e., setting various dir.
permissions), but to no avail. I'm not on IIS 4 anyway, I'm on IIS 5.0.

Can anybody point me to an explicit set of permissions notes that will
let this ASP page use the CDONTS NewMail and Send options on a server
running Win 2K Server SP3? Exchange 2000 SP3 is also running on this
server (as OWA).

Also, I ran Sysinternals filemon to see if the IUSR_Machine or
IWAM_Machine were running into any problems accessing files. Nothing
really stood out (but it was my first time using filemon, so I may have
missed something :) ).

Anyone run into this situation where the MS-recommended fix fixes not?

TIA
clevis

Reead-Recciept options are no longer options

2003-01-09 Thread Chris Levis
In Outlook 2000, a user has this situation: Under "Options\Email
Options\Tracking", his defaul Read-Receipt option is set to "Always Send
a Response", and it is grayed out (hence, unchangeable).

He is the only user in such a situation, and we have no such server-side
receipt processing.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

Getting email addresses from Inbox

2002-11-27 Thread Chris Levis
A user approached me and asked if there was a way he could get the email
addresses from all messages in his inbox.

I've never done anything programatically in OL, and I don't know if the
following is possible:
For Each message In Inbox
Get From: address
Add From: address to a text file
Next

This is in Outlook 2000. Anyone point me to a good resource?

Thanks!

Isinted -patch fails

2002-10-16 Thread Chris Levis

So I'm trying to restore an offline backup to a lab environment... Testing
out migration from 5.5 to 2k.

I backed-up the old exchange server (5.5 SP3) using ntbackup, and restored
it onto the lab one (5.5 SP3). When I tried to run isinted -patch, it fails
with JET_errFileAccessDenied. Event logs show an error 145 for ESE97, that
it could not access a logfile. I checked its existence and permissions, and
everything appears Ok.

Any help?

All boxes involved are Win2k SP3, and Exchange 5.5, SP3.

TIA

Wrong address pops up in OL2k

2002-09-26 Thread Chris Levis

Here's the situation:

Mike (the user) wants to send an email to Heather (who is external to our
organization).

Heather is in Mike's Contacts list, and to email Heather he just types
"Heather" in OL's To: field and everything is fine.

Heather's email address has recently changed. Mike changed her entry in his
Contacts to reflect the new address, but when he types "Heather" in the To:
field now, it resolves to her old email address. I've confirmed that she is
the only "Heather" in his Contacts, and that her email address as entered
there is the current one.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Exch2000 OWA new mail notification

2002-09-12 Thread Chris Levis

Exchange 2000 SP3. OWA clients are IE6, SP1.

When emails come in and go right into the Inbox, OWA pops-up that new-mail
notification icon.

However, when emails come in and -- due to various rules -- are delivered to
a sub-folder of the inbox, there is no New Mail notification.

Without re-writing butt-loads of MS's code, anyone know a way to change the
behaviour such a new message in any folder results in Notification?

Thanks!

Adding mailbox with VBScript

2002-08-27 Thread Chris Levis

I've hit a dead-end in my searching, so here goes:

Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm looking to
programmatically add mailboxes to Exchange 5.5 using VBScript... I'm working
on a new-user-automation thing, and this is the last part I have to finish.

All servers are Win 2000, and we're at Exch 5.5 SP3

Thanks for any leads

Why are you getting their POP mail for them? Why not open port 110 and let
them use Outlook Express themselves?

So I'm trying out poproute (for those who are unfamiliar, it fetches mail
from, say, a user's ISP pop accounts, and stuffs it into their exchange
mailbox).

Problem is, poproute doesn't deliver the mail into the mailbox unless
"Anonymous Access" is enabled for my SMTP. But doesn't that make me an open
relay?

Under "Relay Restrictions", I have "Only the List Below" with computers in
the access list, and "Allow all" unchecked.

How bad is this?

Yep. Right-click the store in the Exch Manager... under one of the tabs is
the option on where to keep the store. Just change that option, and the
store will be taken offline while it's moved.

What's wrong?

What I really want to do is MOVE a store/storage group. My primary storage

There may not be much to fix. Just a WAG-- is the guy's user name 'mike' or
some such? And do you happen to have a 'mikem' or other user name similar to
his? If this is the case, you are basically running into outlook name
resolution issues. If you set up a new Outlook 2000 client and put his
username in and do a check name, you probably get a list of names to choose
form, correct? I ran into this at my previous job, and the only thing you
can do is have him type in enough of his name to differentiate himself from
other, similar users. Instead of typing the full firstname, lastname that
Jennifer [1] suggested, just use his first name and a couple of letters-- it
should still work.

Mike Morrison

[1] Trust me-- Jennifer is definitely NOT a man!

The recipient's properties all look ok... I checked them against a user for

The webserver Security log shows a Successful Network Logon for that user.
The Exchange server doesn't report anything to the logs.

Any steering in the right direction would be a great help

If he cannot log into OWA on any other machines, then his account might be
corrupted. I know you say he can access Outlook 2000, but there still could
be some corruption there. Also, check the permissions on his account and
make sure they are set to "User."

desparate attempt, I elevated his priveleges to almost God didn't work).

The recipient's properties all look ok... I checked them against a user for
whom OWA works fine.

The webserver Security log shows a Successful Network Logon for that user.
The Exchange server doesn't report anything to the logs.

Any steering in the right direction would be a great help

No to access from other machines. Confirmed that it's not the browser.

His browser could be hosed. We've seen that a lot here. Also, can he go to
another machine and gain access?

Here's my setup:

A Win2000 AD domain. I have one internal Exchange server, 5.5 SP3, with the
stores and all. We have OWA installed on our webserver (Win2k).

I have a user who can't login to OWA. The browser comes up with the "OWA
was unable to get to your inbox" error. Outlook 2000 is no problem for him.

broken public store

2002-08-16 Thread Chris Levis

This isn't an emergency... This is just a machine that I use at home for
playing and testing things. Backups didn't exist:

So somewhere along the line, bad things happened to my Exchange 2k public
and private stores, as well as the logs.

Using eseutil, I was able to repair the private store. I got it mounted and
now Outlook can connect and OWA works.

However, I tried to eseutil the public store and after alot of hair pulling,
I couldn't get it repaired. I do happen to have a .pst backup of the public
folders (basically, my wife's recipes and her family contact list).

So I went ahead and created a new Public Store... but how do I tell Exchange
to use this new public store for Public Folders?

One final question:  The repaired private store doesn't mount automatically;
when I reboot (which is often - again, this is my playground). I have to
manually mount it. The "Do not mount this store on startup" option is not
checked.

What a mess!

Well, this co-op semester has come to an end. Thanks for all your help.
These lists have been an invaluable resource, and they made me appear much
smarter than I really am =)

Next co-op, first thing I'm doing is signing back onto the list.

Peace.

Did he recently change his profile to have his mail delivered to a .pst? If
that's the case, then OL might be pulling email out of his exchange mailbox
and putting it into a new local file.

RE: Auto Restart of IMS

2002-04-10 Thread Chris Levis

If your cars oil light is on, that indicates Low Oil Pressure. True, it
could be due to the fact that there's no damn oil in the crankcase, but you
may have a worn bearing, or an oil plug blew.

What's an IMS? =)

Hmm. Does the imsext work under Exchange 2000? I did a kb search for
imsext and Exchange 2k, and nothing (useful) came up.

If the two don't work together, how is a legal disclaimer added with Ex
2000?

RE: imsext.dll and adding a space

2002-04-09 Thread Chris Levis

"Adding Text to Messages
To append text, such as a disclaimer, to all outbound mail, you create a
string value called OutboundAppend and set the value of OutboundAppend to
contain the text you want to add to the end of your SMTP mail. If you want
to add formatting to the text, you must use Rich Text Format (RTF) commands.
For RTF codes, see the Microsoft article "WD: Rich Text Format (RTF)
Specification 1.5 Appnote (GC0165)" at http://support.microsoft.com/
support/kb/articles/q86/9/99.asp contains a link to GC0165.exe, which
contains the full RTF specification.

A backslash (\) signals the start of a formatting string, and for this
simple RTF example, a space signals the end. You must include a single-space
between the RTF string and the text that it's controlling. For example, if
you include the RTF string

\par\bThis message will self-destruct in 5 seconds\b0

and don't include a space between the bold on command (\b) and the word
This, the system interprets \bThis as a formatting command. Because \bThis
isn't a valid command, the system ignores these characters, and the
resulting text is
message will self-destruct in 5 seconds."

Also, see

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnrtfspec/h
tml/rtfspec_6.asp

rookie questions, OWA 2000 access probs

2002-03-11 Thread Chris Levis

(Pre-PS: Everything was fine when I ran Ex 5.5 =)

So at home I have MSEx 2000-SP2 running on Win 2k Server-SP2. Everything is
working fine when using OL 2002 as the client. But there are issues with
OWA:

*Trying to use OWA internally (http://ExchBox/exchange) I get the OWA page,
but I don't see any of my emails anywhere. I just get a "Loading..."
message in my Inbox view.

*Trying to access OWA from the outside, I get prompted for my user/pass,
then I get a "Page cannot be found"

Any pointers?

Thanks!

actually, we very much understand baseball. it's almost identical to a

this thread doesn't belong on this list, but. for radio buttons to be
separate, they have to be grouped off:

Group1 - Option 1, Option 2, Option 3
Group2 - Option 1, Option 2, Option 3
Group3 - Option 1, Option 2, Option 3

So the code would be like:

INPUT TYPE="radio" name="Group1" value="option1"
INPUT TYPE="radio" name="Group1" value="option2"
INPUT TYPE="radio" name="Group1" value="option3"

INPUT TYPE="radio" name="Group2" value="option1"

I am creating a form, and there are several different categories, that have
their own radio buttons. But I can't select more than one radio button for
the whole page. What do I have to do in order to be able to check one radio
button for one category.

I'd like to set up a public folders and publish some users' calendars to a
public folder... ie, PublicFolders\PeopleCalendars\Mike and show Mike's
calendar. Just copying the calendar won't work, of course, cuz then it's
just a copy. I need the two calendars (the one in his mailbox and the
Public) to be sync'ed.

Thanks =)

LOL! Clearly you haven't been here as long as those of us who are now
thoroughly jaded. Why do you think we revel in being sarcastic

answers over and over again.

I think once a week we need to post a list of links to the faq that
answer: AV, Backup, moving a server, upgrading, and why not to run eseutil.
Then we could have more time to answer real questions that don't get asked 3
times a day.

You're not buying the product. You get a term license for its use.

Same with Antigen.

RE: calendar for Resources items

2002-01-25 Thread Chris Levis

well, i did all that when i set up the mailboxes. and we've successfully
scheduled meetings with no conflicts. what i'm looking for is a way to
publish the Calendar for each of the resources into maybe a public folder or
something. That way, users can see where a resource is going to be and when

You should setup mail profiles for each resource on a machine so that when
you need to run /cleanfreebusy on them if ever, you'll be ready to do so.
Logging on each resource as the resource generates the free/busy time so you
can test the resource and then leave it.

(Exch 5.5; all clients use OL2k)

So I have a bunch of mailboxes set up as resources (laptops, projectors,
etc).

Now, how can my users see a resource's free/busy time? Right now, we have
to pretend to set up a meeting and invite the resources to be shown when
they're available... Is there something buried in Outlook that I haven't
found?

Thx =)
