RE: SIS and English

2002-10-08 Thread Gary Barnett

Sounds to me that if x messages exist in the store and y messages are
duplicates, then the ratio can be expressed as a percentage of messages that
are singly stored.

Note that the number of bytes saved is not included in the calculation, hence
the result says nothing about the number of bytes saved.

I suppose you are supposed to assume that all the dups are copies of
forwarded jokes, MP3 and other large attachments, rather than 500 copies of
"To the loser who stole my pen, please return it, ASAP!"

Subject: SIS and English

First, cool subject :-)

Ex5.5, perfmon on MSexchangeIS private.
I look at the "Single Instance Storage Ratio" counter and wonder: Does the
word "ratio" means like the English "ratio" word, or it means actually how
much data I save because I am using SIS?

Idiot Question? Look at :Q160178

Single Instance Ratio:

The ratio between the total number of message references and the total number
of messages stored in the information store. This ratio indicates the amount
of storage saved by single instance storage.

=

The first sentence talks about ratio, which means some kind of mathematical
relation. The second sentence talks about a permanent number - "amount of
storage".

Well?!

Answer pelase. I think it's A.

Your Exchange 2000 Server has a single storage group containing three Mailbox
Stores and a Public Folder Store. You perform nightly backups that alter
between a normal backup of two of the Mailbox Stores on one night and a
normal backup of the other Mailbox Store and Public Folder Store on the
following night. You notice that transaction log files are not being purged,
and that they are now consuming nearly all available disk space. What should
be done?

 a. Disable circular logging.

 b. Install a new hard disk and move the transaction log files to the new
disk.

 c. Perform nightly incremental backups of the entire Storage Group in
addition to the current backups.

 d. Perform differential backups of the Mailbox Stores and the Public Folder
Store instead of normal backups. >

STORE.EXE - How much is too much?

2002-06-24 Thread Gary Barnett

I am now confused on the operation of e2k sp2 store.exe process, as a result
of reading this fine list :-)

Let's just say for example that one had a single exchange server in their
network.

Let's also say that box has a fast processor (only one), with 1Gig of ram and
also runs the 2nd DC and hosts a GC.

Nothing else running on the server, especially anything from any AV vendor.

Would the following store.exe sizes be reasonable? At what point should I be
worried about the process failing?

600M - day before yesterday
650M - yesterday
471M - a few minutes ago

I gathered, from the docs, that the process is supposed to use all available
memory, minus whatever it grudgingly allowed the OS to give away to other
processes.

Thanks for any thoughts you may relate,

Gary Barnett

Has anyone ever noticed this behavior from Outlook 2002, which was installed
with Office XP Pro.

1. Whenever I close outlook, the process is never closed just the application
GUI. I have to bring up task manager and kill the outlook process before I
can re-launch outlook. Any help would be great.

This is running on a Dell workstation with Win2k Pro SP2 with all pre-sp3 hot
fixes. 2. Running Office XP SP1 with all relevant hot fixes also. 3. Machine
is also running as a member of a domain.

I saw this a lot when I was working on a com addin.

Failing to set objects to nothing at exit will cause the app to keep running.

I would check for a custom vbaproject.otm or any com addins.

I have a temp sensor connecting to a Linux box which dials my pager when the

Love the holiday weekends when they shut the air-handling system down. That
