RE: Changing IP of Exchange Server Breaks MTA

2002-04-16 Thread Terry Lee

H. I had something similar but it had nothing to do with the IP address. It had
to do with the Recipient Policies. We had 2 servers, say a.company.com
b.company.com. The Default Recipient Policy had an SMTP address of a.company.com from
when we only had 1 server. We had to remove that and just leave @company.com as
possible email addresses.it was causing a looping problem. I don't think that's
your problem but here's my 2 cents.

Hi,

Well this again was done tonight and it did not fix the issue. I
recalculated on the two servers that were changed and then on the two
servers that were not changed at the Site Level.

With this I am forced to call MS PSS due to time contraints.

Does anyone else have an idea?

Subject: Changing IP of Exchange Server Breaks MTA

 Hi,

A week ago we moved two of our 4 Exchange servers over to a private IP due
to a network redesign. All 4 Exchange servers sit behind a bridgehead and
the other two are private IP's already.

 Exchange Arch:
Inbound email to our domain comes into a SMTP bridgehead which delivers
directly to the Exchange server. Outbound email from the Exchange servers
are directly sent to the bridgehead and send out to the Internet.

 Exchange 5.5 with SP4.
 All same site and org.

These two Exchange 5.5 SP4 servers (After the re-ip) could receive inbound
email and send email within the enterprise to other Exchange servers and
recipients. When we sent an email outbound to another domain it failed
with
 the following:

 ---
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

   Subject: test from internal
   Sent: 4/10/2002 10:26 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'[EMAIL PROTECTED]' on 4/10/2002 10:26 PM
The recipient name is not recognized
The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=US;a=
 ;p=Epicentric;l=SPEAR-020411052540Z-40
 ---
This is my personal email account and it failed each time to this and
other
email accounts. On the other hand, email from this external account to my
 work email address succeeded.

I looked at the Event Logs and there was nothing on both servers after
 observing these issues.

Myself and the Sys Admin installed SP4 and rebooted after this break. Due
to the high nature of these servers we rolled back and were able to start
 emailing outbound again.

I have looked at the following articles after this experience:

 Q133403--seems best for our situation
 Q193321
 Q191014

The 'Site Addressing Properties' has the following info for each server:

 Type: Value: Cost: Connector:
SMTP *; 1 Internet Mail Service
 (Spear)
SMTP *; 1 Internet Mail Service
 (Lombard)
SMTP *; 1 Internet Mail Service
 (Presidio)
SMTP *; 1 Internet Mail Service
 (Lasalle)

 My question(s) is/are:

-Should we recalculate routing on the two servers after the ip change or
 before?
-Has anyone else had this issue and if so what did you do to resolve it?

 Thank you,

 Erik L. Vesneski

E2K, SP2 and Backup Exec 8.6 Problems

2002-03-16 Thread Terry Lee

I'm having a weird problem that I can't seem to track down. When I attempt to backup
my E2K, SP2 (native mode) servers using BE 8.6 (latest revision), the BE job engine
service will just stop and sometimes the logs state that there's a corrupt message
in a particular mailbox.

However, here's the kicker.I can backup the supposedly corrupt mailbox
individually, but not in selected group of mailboxes. Also, per MS suggestion, we've
done the following:

(1) The error messages that resulting from eseutil isinteg stating that there was a
Jet_ERR messagea problem w/the store.
(2) So, we created a 2nd mailbox store. Painfully moved all the mailboxes to the 2nd
store. Painful because some of the mailboxes woulnd't move...had MAPI errors. So,
after an exmerge, we deleted the mailboxes; ran clean-up agen; re-created them then
re-imported them.
(3) Ran isinteg -s servername -fix -t path -tests alltests --- everything
reports 0 errors 0 fixes.
(4) Ran BE still get the same problemit just hangs on different mailboxes and
it's not consistent because if hangs on mailbox 'c' I can rerun BE mailbox 'c'
will get backed up but then it will 'hang' on mailbox j.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking of dropping back to BE 8.5 but I can't
figure out if I'm having mailbox corruption, store corruption or what?

NTOE: With MS tech support, re ran just a plan NT Backup verified that we could
backup the IS we can backup the store using BEjust not individual mailboxes.

SOLVED: Browsing an AD Win2K Domain + Scanmail for E2k

2002-02-21 Thread Terry Lee

This is one for the books it was never Scanmail. Apparently OfficeScan by Trendmicro
is the product that effects browsing.

Anyway, the real problem solution:

I am using a tool, namely Scriptlogic, for various things. One such task was to
automatically fill the comment or srvcomment field on all machines so we could
automatically know the owner of the machine. Check out:
http://www.scriptlogic.com/support/teknotes/s1076.asp

Well, it appears that using this script on Win2k SERVERS broke browsing. I don't know
why. It works fine on workstations. To resolve the issue I ran the following from
the command line:

(1) net config server /srvcomment:machinename where I put the name of each server in
for machinename.

(2) Since I was running WINS, I also ran 'nbtstat -R' to clear everything
(3) Then 'nbtstat -RR'

Sometimes it takes a little while (more than 40 mins sometimes) but eventually
everthing populates browsing worked again. Unfortunately, it has taken almost 3
weeks to discover this while working w/MS techsupport.

Subject: Browsing an AD Win2K Domain + Scanmail for E2k

Hi folks,

Let me say up front that I wasn't sure whether to post to both groups but the
issue involves Win2k Exchange servers. So, please pardon me if it offends anyone.

My team recently rebuilt our 2 multi-master, NT4 into a single AD Win2k
domain. We were able to browse when we were in test modeeven with 1 E2K server
running. Once we added the latest version of Trend Micro's Scanmail and E-manager to
the mix but we actually didn't notice it at first. Browsing thru AD's Users
Computers works fine. However, when you use the old browse entire network look
at it from an NT/Win9x point of view, the only machines that are listed are DHCP
clients (servers or workstations) and the 2 E2K (native mode, member servers).not
even the PDC Emulater/master browser.

I have been working this issue w/Trend MS for more than a week it's still
not resolved. MS states that a Scanmail is the issue but that the problem hasn't been
made public yet. Trend doesn't seem to have a clue. Does anyone else have any
clues?

Other info:

*   Two physical sites.
* An AD DC that serves as the GC (global catalog) in both sites
* A WINs server in each siteboth member servers..replicating to each
other using AD. Wins has been check, re-checked triple checked.
* A DNS server in each site...both member servers
* Domain is native mode although we had the same problem in mixed mode.
*   All servers are running SP2 including E2K w/SP2.
* The PDC doesn't see all the servers, so no clients will either.

The only time I can remember that we could browse all the servers is when my
Exchange servers weren't online.

Any help is appreciated.

RE: Browsing an AD Win2K Domain + Scanmail for E2k

2002-02-06 Thread Terry Lee

Supposedly, having some server-based antivirus programs can cause browsing not to
function properly. I don't know but I'm going to shut down my mail servers in the wee
hours of the am start the services slowly to see what happens.

I just know I'm sick of this need it working.

Ask them why Scanmail is the issue. That makes absolutely no sense to
me.

You're having a browsing problem, so maybe you have more than one master
browser on the network. Start examining the event logs for Browser
service errors.

How to setup multiple E2k Servers? -- Bounced Messages

2002-01-28 Thread Terry Lee

My org recently migrated from a 2-site, 1 Exchange 5.5 Org to E2K w/TWO exchange
servers that are in 2 physical locations.

Previously, I had 1 E55 server that had the single Internet Mail Server while the 2nd
server got mail replicated to it.

Now, we have the 2 E2k servers w/2 SMTP virtual servers w/1 SMTP connector. We can
send mail externally from both servers and receive external email but we cannot send
mail to each other. We're getting bouncing mail between two servers.

Can someone help with this...I'm not sure if I need a routing group or my bridgehead
servers are wrong or what.

NOTE: The servers are physically separated by routers but they serve the same domain,
example: abc.com

Any clues?

Need tool to delete specific emails/attachments

2001-09-21 Thread Terry Lee

Is there a tool that will allow me to delete specific emails/attachments
that are already stored in my users mailbox?

I have inherited a mail system I would like the ability to delete messages
that contain .vbs, mp3, .com or .exe's. My scanner doesn't allow them in
(now) but it doesn't do anything for messages ALREADY in the store.

Environment: Exchange 5.5, SP4 on NT4, SP6a.
