2001-08-31 Thread "Peña, Botp"

Thank you sir Ed, Martin, and Don.
I will apply tonite.

To Missy: sorry about the guy thing. Here in the PI, guy is generic. In
fact, the guy word was first heard/used (here) in a movie portrayed by a
very famous filipina actress. Until now, she still carries the name "guy".

You are all cool.

Missy is cool but not a guy.

I believe that your logic is valid. If SP4 contains the required fix, then
I would definitely apply an SP4 instead.

Hi Missy and the rest of the cool guys of Exchange,

Sybari advised that I apply a particular post sp3 hotfix. I did a
doublecheck and yes, it does fit my (remaining) problem.

In this regard, would it be better (or worst) that I apply sp4 then? I do
not usually apply hotfixes. I prefer sps since they are fully regression
tested (that is, according to ms).

What do you think?

Hello Team,

I just got the ff error an hour ago. I had to restart the SA to bring the

Anyone had the same experience? Any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

Here's the message we're sending to Antigen support: (One of my minions
wrote this - isn't it great?)

On Friday night we removed Groupshield4.5, WebShield, Netshiled403 and
installed Antigen 6.2 and Netshield 4.5SP1.
Yesterday afternoon we had this problem.
Here is what the application log showed during the time the server was
inaccesible, the clients started to get "Client operation failed" when tried
to access mailbox folders or send e-mail.
All the Exchange services were up.

Nothing before this, then at
2:37:48 PM

OK, i just applied the new pack and made a few test (mail send/receive w
concurrent manual scan).

Result: All errors gone including the warnings.

Final test is tomorrow (server will be bombarded). If everything is fine
then, I will tell you.

Thanks,

RE: Database resource failure error 0xfffffc0b -an hour ago

2001-08-30 Thread Desjardins, Raymond

They said that it would be on the site sometime yesterday. His
message did say that a new build 838 was coming out. Doesn't make sense to
call it the same build if you had to make changes to it. You may want to
call them to see where it is. I didn't bother checking. I am back at 6.1
and so far so good and will stay here for a little while at least. I do
wish they would have publicized the original problem with 837 and also with
838.

We started with 6.0 and never had problems... until now (ver6.2build838
-didn't try 837).

What is so puzzling on our case is that the other (first) exchange server
which runs additional/more services (+backupExec+Wins) do not exhibit this
error. I always apply packs first on this first server (since it is loaded)
so that if it (packs) passes, I can be sure/confident that the packs would
work when applied eventually on our main Exchange servers which (runs only
just Exchange).

To Raymond: Ray, where is the new build located? I search sybari site and I
cannot find any new build or patch...

Thanks Andy and Ray.

Is it just me, or does it seem that the 6x versions of Antigen have more
problems than the 5x versions did?

I had the same problem and since I had just upgraded to Antigen 6.2
build 837, I called Sybari. They said there was a problem and to install 838
which I did, but the problem persisted. They at first said that the problem
was not Sybari, but an hour later called me back to say that they was a
problem with 838 with this exact symptom. They left me a message yesterday
saying that they had a new build which fixed the problem. I had since
reverted back to 6.1 and have not looked at their new release yet.

Is it time to add Antigen to the list of Antivirus solutions to
be avoided?

Sorry, I couldn't resist :-)

2001-08-30 Thread "Peña, Botp"

LOL. Same with us here :-)

I applied the pack last night and the server went down just early afternoon
today (Philippine time) with all the symptoms you described. I restarted the
box just to make sure. I know longer see the dreaded "Database failure.."
error but I can still see a lot of warnings "Function/Description name..."
error.

I will apply the newer pack tonite and wait and see if the server will burst
tomorrow :-)

RE: Database resource failure error 0xfffffc0b -an hour ago

2001-08-30 Thread msharik

Here's the message we're sending to Antigen support: (One of my minions
wrote this - isn't it great?)

On Friday night we removed Groupshield4.5, WebShield, Netshiled403 and
installed Antigen 6.2 and Netshield 4.5SP1.
Yesterday afternoon we had this problem.
Here is what the application log showed during the time the server was
inaccesible, the clients started to get "Client operation failed" when tried
to access mailbox folders or send e-mail.
All the Exchange services were up.

Nothing before this, then at
2:37:48 PM
ERROR
Source MSExchangeIS, category (6), event 1160
The description for Event ID ( 1160 ) in Source ( MSExchangeIS ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following
information is part of the event: JTAB_BASE::EcSetColumn, 0xfc0b.

After a couple of these, a warning message
2:37:48 PM
WARNING
Source MSExchangeIS private, category (6), event 1025
The description for Event ID ( 1025 ) in Source ( MSExchangeIS Private )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
The following information is part of the event: EcProcessSearchMessageEvent,
0x4fa.

Then again a lot of ERROR events 1160

Then at
2:37:53 PM
a 1025 WARNING
The description for Event ID ( 1025 ) in Source ( MSExchangeIS Private )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
The following information is part of the event: EcUnlinkMessage, 0xfc0b.

Then they alternated
until the WARNING changed back to
2:38:12 PM
The description for Event ID ( 1025 ) in Source ( MSExchangeIS Private )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
The following information is part of the event: EcProcessSearchMessageEvent,
0xfc0b.

A bunch of errors 1160 and a couple more warnings

At 2:38:47
a new ERROR message
Source MSExchangeIS Private, category (15), event 1107

The description for Event ID ( 1107 ) in Source ( MSExchangeIS Private )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
The following information is part of the event: 0xfc0b.

We also got a couple of IMC ERROR messages
Source IMC, category Internal Processing, event 4117
An error was returned from the messaging software the Internet Mail Service
uses to process messages on the Microsoft Exchange Server. As a result, the
message in spool file RX7B4QL9 failed to be delivered. The message has been
moved to the IMCDATA\IN\ARCHIVE directory.

---
We had to reboot the server and it came up fine after that.

This morning a WARNING showed up in the app log
Source MSExchangeIS Private, category (20), event 1077
"The description for Event ID ( 1077 ) in Source ( MSExchangeIS Private )

2001-08-30 Thread "Peña, Botp"

caveat: I am downloading the "new"ly released 838 dated Aug29 (they should
have named it at least an 838A or whatever. Good thing I looked at the date.
I downloaded the "old" 838 last Aug24). I hoped this is the new build that
Ray was talking about.

I will apply this tonite (I have to) and I'll keep you posted... (Download
speed here is so slow...)

Subject: Database resource failure error 0xfc0b -an hour ago

Hello Team,

I just got the ff error an hour ago. I had to restart the SA to bring the
server back.

Error: "Database resource failure error 0xfc0b occurred in function
JTAB_BASE::EcUpdate while accessing the database"

Anyone had the same experience? Any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

-botp

RE: Database resource failure error 0xfffffc0b -an hour ago

2001-08-30 Thread "Peña, Botp"

RE: Database resource failure error 0xfffffc0b -an hour ago

2001-08-30 Thread Andy David

I'm glad they were able to figure it out. I have noticed however more
Antigen-related posts since the 6.x version was released. I'm not saying
these are indicative of a larger problem with the version, but nonetheless I
think it is worth noting.

I had no problems with 6.x until 6.2. By many standards, I have a
pretty simple setup here. It only showed up when the load increased. It
happened last week, over the weekend was fine and then Monday popped up
again. I think I will wait awhile this time. Antigen has been so good, I
hope this is not a trend. I must say their tech support was very helpful.
Even though they thought the problem wasn't theirs, they were working with
me to find what the problem was and called me right back when they
discovered the bug. It was disconcerting to see the event log fill up with
those database errors though.

Sorry Team,

I have an addition (hope this might help), I notice the following event:

"MSExchangeIS (459) Database 'D:\exchsrvr\MDBDATA\PRIV.EDB': The database
engine has built an in-memory cache of 2475 space tree nodes on a B-Tree
(Objid: 1, PgnoRoot: 1) to optimize space requests for that B-Tree. The

Is this someway related to my problem below?
