RE: ARCserve for Exchange

2002-07-22 Thread William Lefkovics

Do not do file level backups for exchange. The database is a dynamic
open file.

There is a specific Exchange Agent for ArcServeIT allowing for online
backups.

If that is what you are using, let us know what Computer Associates
support says in November or so when they get back to you.

In place upgrade DB convert time

Hi Folks

Just wondering about the process of an in place upgrade from 5.5SP4 to e2k. I would
assume that the database needs to be converted to the new format.

My question is how long does this process take on a fairly decent box? (dual CPU
1GBRAM SAN attaqched storage) The priv DB is about 65 GB.

Any info or past experiencse about inplace upgrades would be helpful.

Cheers

You

Does anybody know of a way to force the emptying of deleted
items from an exchange mailbox. I've looked at the exchange settings
that affect retention time of deleted items and the MS policy that will set
this option for Outlook, but nothing I can find forces it. Other than
communicating the importance of keeping mail stores at a reasonable level
(that by the way is the end goal) to all users, I cant find a way to force
it. Limitations on mail store size are have been reviewed, but they
  aren't the solution for this.

David,
It is definitely the store.exe that is causing this problem, I looked in the
drwtsn32.log. That Q article refers to Exchange 5.5 and inetinfo being the cause.

Is there a way to tell what the total storage usage is from the exchange

the EDB files?

I would like to know how close I am to the 16Gb limit of this version of
exchange.

RE: ARCserve for Exchange

2002-07-22 Thread William Lefkovics

Online backups allow you to maintain services without interruption (as
I'm sure you know). At my last job we had a couple hundred GB in the
stores over several servers. Stopping is not an option.

Online backups also allow restoring to point of failure (depending on
cause of failure).

What's wrong with file level backup? If it is possible to shut down
exchange server, it works well.

Do not do file level backups for exchange. The database is a dynamic
open file.

There is a specific Exchange Agent for ArcServeIT allowing for online
backups.

If that is what you are using, let us know what Computer Associates
support says in November or so when they get back to you.

Is there a way to tell what the total storage usage is from the exchange

I would like to know how close I am to the 16Gb limit of this version of

Publishing a user's calendar to a public folder

2002-07-22 Thread Friese, Casey

I'm sure this has been touched on before. I've looked around but have found nothing.

I'm using Exchange 2000 SP2 on Win2k SP2 and all clients are using O2K w/ SP2

A department in my company wants to be able to share their free/busy information with
eachother through the use of public folders. They would rather not have to assign
delegate permissions for each user.

Is there anyway that I can have this information automatically published to a public
folder for each user?

RE: E2K sp3

2002-07-22 Thread William Lefkovics
Title: Message

If you do have applications that access with CDO you may see some issues.

This will be available in Q324037:
Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 Security Modification and
CDOEX/CDOSYS
Summary
A security modification in Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Service Pack 3
(SP3) removes broadly available read access to the Microsoft Internet
Information Services (IIS) metabase. As a result, a Collaboration Data Objects
for Exchange (CDOEX) or Collaboration Data Objects for Windows (CDOSYS)
application that sends mail using Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) could
fail. Although this change may cause a disruption to some customers, the end
result is a more secure system.
Exchange and Microsoft are deeply committed to improving the security of our
products for customers. Although this access path doesnt represent a widespread
problem, it has been determined to constitute a serious enough security
vulnerability to warrant immediate closure in SP3.

I see that. Looking on CDOlive at their scripts I found a way to do a shortcut to a

Or there is some serious tweaking that must be done (with guidance from

First and foremost, did you install Exchange with the /disasterrecovery

the spillway here (Canyon Lake). It was truly amazing to see. We had a
flood in 98, but it was quite different from this. All rain that year
was downstream and did not affect thedam.

So Matt, how is it going in SA? Did you get
flooded?

My son's vehicle was in Abilene last week :( He went
out there to meet with his roommate who stayed there for the summer
they went to the coast to go deep sea fishing left
Eric's car. It got flooded. He couldn't get it started
so we just told him to catch a bus back to Ft. Worth. We'll go
out there this weekend to work on it. Only liability insurance
on it too.

Affirmative Matthew ;) I understand.

We've been watching all the incredible footage on TxCN
local news. It has indeed been very amazing to watch, especially
when its so close to us in the DFW area. SA, New Braunfels area is

Exchange 2000 In / Out Board

2002-07-22 Thread Patrick Rouse

We're using Exchange 2000 with Outlook 2000 and would like to implement
some kind of corporate in/out board that our receptionist can monitor.
Currently we have the white board solution, where some people actually
take the time to write out to lunch, out til' 3PM...

Anyone use anything like this in their office that works for them? It
doesn't have to be free.

the
LSA handles this in 2000. No 'log in locally' rights
required.

What
browser is being used? What authentication method?

Authentication
A number of options are available for Outlook Web Access authentication.
Choosing the appropriate mechanism is usually a matter of the capabilities of
the client operating system and specific security policies.
The default authentication methods for Outlook Web Access in a single-server
environment are Basic and Integrated Windows authentication. You set
authentication on the HTTP virtual servers configured for Outlook Web Access.
Note Outlook Web Access does not have a button for logging off. To log
off the session, the user must close the browser.
The following are the available options for authentication:
Method 1Basic: Uses clear text to perform a simple challenge and
response.
Method 2Integrated Windows: Leverages the native security
attributes of the client.
Method 3Anonymous: Provides access to public folders that are
intended for general access.
Method 4Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Although not an authentication
method, SSL provides a secure communications channel that can be used in
combination with any of the above methods.

Absolutely nothing on any logs.

I am thinking of removing (as this is not a
production server) the E2K and reinstalling it after I have run the forestprep
and domainprep once again just to make sure I have not screwed up anything.

However having gone thru Q252486 and done all of what it says. I stillsee the Server-SA
mailbox in the M drive. Thus when I try to remove the E2K using the E2K setup on
the CD, I get an error that there still exists a mailbox (which I suppose it is
the one mentioned above). Is there something that I have not done? What else do
I need to do. I really do not want to go thru the manual
removal.

OK, here is
what I want to do:

I have a long
list of email addresses that I want to block (filter)from being received
by Exchange Server 2000 SP1. Exchange calls this Filtering Message
Delivery.

In the
Exchange System Manager | Global Settings | Message Delivery | Properties |
Filtering tab, one can manually enter addresses one-at-a-time that one wants to
block. I would rather not retype a hundred addresses using this process.

I am looking
for a process or tool that will allow me to enter (import) the list of
addresses I want to block from a file (like a CSV or Excel file) into E2K so
that I don't have to do the manual typing.

Hope this
clears things up.

Best Regards,

I just searched the reg, and exchange dir for text containing a portion
of a blocked email on my system.
Nothing came up. It's obviously stored not as text somewhere, so unless
there is a tool that I don't know about, I would say you are SOL dude.

Subject: RE: E2K: Importing Filtered Message List

OK, here is what I want to do:

I have a long list of email addresses that I want to block (filter) from
being received by Exchange Server 2000 SP1. Exchange calls this
Filtering Message Delivery.

In the Exchange System Manager | Global Settings | Message Delivery |
Properties | Filtering tab, one can manually enter addresses
one-at-a-time that one wants to block. I would rather not retype a
hundred addresses using this process.

I am looking for a process or tool that will allow me to enter (import)
the list of addresses I want to block from a file (like a CSV or Excel
file) into E2K so that I don't have to do the manual typing.

Hope this clears things up.

Best Regards,
JMU

Absolutely nothing on any logs.

I am thinking of removing (as this
is not a production server) the E2K and reinstalling it after I have run the
forestprep and domainprep once again just to make sure I have not screwed up
anything.

However having gone thru Q252486 and
done all of what it says. I stillsee the Server-SA mailbox in the M
drive. Thus when I try to remove the E2K using the E2K setup on the CD, I get
an error that there still exists a mailbox (which I suppose it is the one
mentioned above). Is there something that I have not done? What else do I need
to do. I really do not want to go thru the manual removal.

What browser is being
used? What authentication method?

Authentication

A number of options are
available for Outlook Web Access authentication. Choosing the appropriate
mechanism is usually a matter of the capabilities of the client operating
system and specific security policies.

The default
authentication methods for Outlook Web Access in a single-server environment
are Basic and Integrated Windows authentication. You set authentication on the
HTTP virtual servers configured for Outlook Web Access.

Note Outlook Web Access does not have a button for logging off. To log
off the session, the user must close the browser.

The following are the
available options for authentication:

Method 1-Basic: Uses
clear text to perform a simple challenge and response.

Method 2-Integrated Windows: Leverages the native security attributes of the client.

Method 3-Anonymous:
Provides access to public folders that are intended for general access.

Method 4-Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Although not an authentication method, SSL provides a secure
communications channel that can be used in combination with any of the above
methods.
