Strange e-mail issue with one user

2009-01-30 Thread Joe Heaton
Exchange 2k3

Outlook 2k3

I have one user who is experiencing this problem. I have tested from
her machine and verified that it is happening. We have had PC
changeouts recently, so it's not a problem with her specific machine.

Each month, she fills out her timesheet, and e-mails it as an attachment
to the time clerk. Or her boss, or someone else in her unit. She opens
a new e-mail, fills in the To: and CC: boxes, fills in the Subject line,
attaches the timesheet, and hits Send. The message then shows up in her
Sent Items, for about 10-15 seconds, then disappears. The recipients
never receive the message. It happens only with the timesheets, whether
she has one, or her whole unit's timesheets in the message. It's not a
size issue, as one timesheet is only a couple hundred KB in size. It is
also an intermittent issue, as I have also stood behind her, watching,
and sometimes it will work. The strangest part, is that it only happens
with timesheets, which are .xls documents. Any other time, attaching
any other file, is no problem.

Any ideas where I can start to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,

Joe Heaton

Re: MAPI Editor Issue

2009-01-30 Thread John Bowles
Michael-

Well, that is the reason we are using the Mapi Editor. We want to flush the
temp folders out and then apply the first patch. We just want to make sure we
don't restart the server again and old mail starts sending out again. So if
I'm reading that right.. there are two patches for this incident?

Thanks,

All-

I'm trying to clear out the SMTP temp tables on my Exchange 2003 box and
when I attach to the server with a profile located on that server, I drill
down to the smtp temp folders and when I get to a temp folder there is a few
emails from last year that I'm unable to delete from the MAPI Editor... Has
anyone had that happen before and what did you do to remedy this problem?

Thank you,

We have an Exchange 2007 RU5 CCR as well, and I regularly see the following

I Googled it and found that others were experiencing the same issue.

I was still worried so I opened up a ticket with Microsoft Professional
Support. I talked with a guy in India for about 2 hours. He was not sure, so
he escalated the incident. A little while later I received a call from a guy
in Redmond on the Exchange team and he filled me in.

Apparently this is a known issue. It is a timing issue and these error events
are erroneously generated and written to the logs. I was told that the fix was
scheduled to be included in RU7. He said as long Test-ReplicationHealth ran
clean and failover was working that you could ignore these errors.

I still can't wait till they get this fixed. It still bothers me seeing these
errors in the event logs. Oh well. I now add this where statement to my
powershell get-eventlog commandlets so that I don't have to see them.

The expiration date (that is, that date at which the blocker will no longer
block installation of the service pack) for the Service Pack Blocker Tool for
Windows Vista SP1 is April 28, 2009; for Windows XP SP3 the expiration date is
May 19, 2009.

RE: Strange e-mail issue with one user

My first thought would be some kind of filtyering.

Is she emailing to a person in your company or another firm?

Exchange 2k3
Outlook 2k3

I have one user who is experiencing this problem. I have tested from her
machine and verified that it is happening. We have had PC changeouts recently,
so it's not a problem with her specific machine.

Each month, she fills out her timesheet, and e-mails it as an attachment to the
time clerk. Or her boss, or someone else in her unit. She opens a new e-mail,
fills in the To: and CC: boxes, fills in the Subject line, attaches the
timesheet, and hits Send. The message then shows up in her Sent Items, for
about 10-15 seconds, then disappears. The recipients never receive the
message. It happens only with the timesheets, whether she has one, or her
whole unit's timesheets in the message. It's not a size issue, as one
timesheet is only a couple hundred KB in size. It is also an intermittent
issue, as I have also stood behind her, watching, and sometimes it will work.
The strangest part, is that it only happens with timesheets, which are .xls
documents. Any other time, attaching any other file, is no problem.

Any ideas where I can start to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,

Joe Heaton

I find it interesting that the header on this email says you sent it at 6:03
pm yesterday, and I received it at 2:17 pm today.

Weird.

Anyway, sounds like an AV issue to me.

Within our agency. I can't imagine it being a rule, as it is an intermittent
issue. Sometimes, the mail will go, others it sits in the Sent Items a few
seconds and disappears. Also, it seems that if she adds another document to
the e-mail, such as a Word doc, then it goes. Haven't tested multiple times
for consistency on that one though.

Yep, I sent it yesterday afternoon, my time, right about the time the Lyris
server stopped sending stuff out. We're running Symantec Corp. v.10 here on
the desktops. Wouldn't there be some kind of notification that it found
something bad? We're also running Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft
Exchange on the Exchange box, but there's no notices from that end either.

OT: Friday Humor

2009-01-30 Thread Steve Szabo
We all know how great Microsoft products are as well as being absolutely
foolproof to use. Sunday morning I stumbled upon this that is so
sick^H^H^H^H good that I just had to pass it along right away.

I get a daily e-mail from the New York Times that gives me what they refer
to as Today's Headlines. One of the stories mentioned was this:
Microsoft Songsmith Is Easy (if Painful to Hear)
'By RANDALL STROSS
Microsoft's new software to vamp behind your vocals is generating buzz, but
only for being cringe-worthy.
Follow this link to see the story (registration may be required):
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/25/business/25digi.html?_r=1themc=th
TinyURL: http://tinyurl.com/apjndu
(Hopefully this link will still work today.)

Well, one thing leads to another, and they mention YouTube videos, so I had
to go over there and look to see what they are talking about. Of course, I
wasted far too much time at YouTube, but I have listed, for you, a few of
the videos over there about this software, starting with the Microsoft ads.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oGFogwcx-Efeature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jewxFiDQ22wfeature=related

Then, onto some videos of songs that you may know, recreated by running the
vocals through Songsmith:
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BZk6aZp9xE
What's Going On by Marvin Gaye,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbtlEPIlyfUfeature=related
Roxanne by The Police,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypycpKQxXR0feature=related

If, for some reason, you are not familiar with any of these tunes, Look for
related videos in the column on the right of the page for one you are
familiar with and see how it got slaughtered.

I was wondering what the opinion here was on blocking .bin files. We always
have but we are running into trouble now with .xlsx and .docx files being
blocked and its causing grief.

Outlook through VPN issues

2009-01-30 Thread HELP_PC

I connect a user in a workgroup to a corporate remote domain through
PPTP VPN with his domain credential.
The connection is successfull an I can even map drives from remote
server.
I create his account on Outllok2003 sp3 (OWA works OK) in cached mode
The exchange server name is well resolved giving the internal IP and the
user name as well, but when trying to download the items I get a
Exchange Server unavailable response.
Could be an authentication problem or what other ?

TIA
