2010 DAG question

2010-12-21 Thread Richard Stovall
My understanding is that to implement mailbox resiliency in Exchange 2010,
you must have the Enterprise edition of the OS on each server in the DAG.
When I run Dell's Exchange 2010 advisory tool at
http://advisors.dell.com/advisorweb/Advisor.aspx?advisor=b6372fc5-7556-4340-8328-b8a88e2e64b2-001ebc;4c=usl=encs=g_5,
it
indicates that a solution for my size org (tiny at ~50 users) should use
Windows 2008 Standard x64 Edition. This despite indicating that a DAG is
desired.

The tool is just wrong, right?

Thanks,
RS

Yep, you definitely need the enterprise edition for the clustering components
that are installed when you join them to the DAG

OT and Cross Post Latest Video of my son rocking out live

Hi Lists,

Sorry to go off topic, but I posted a previous performance of my son, and
promised some people I would post when he performs again.

Here is a link to his latest performance, of East Jesus Nowhere by Greenday.

His guitar teacher is on backing guitar, another student is on Bass, and
other teacher on drums and hired in singer.

Also as he's 13, and life's such a popularity contest at that age, getting
more views than his class mate would make him well chuffed.

Enjoy,

And again apologies for my intrusion into your work, in this busy Christmas

We are looking to outsource Exchange and have narrowed our field down
to Apptix, USA.NET, and Microsoft BPOS. I have read a couple online
reviews but would like to have a more interactive discussion. If
anyone here has used any of these three I'd love to hear about your
experience, good, bad, or indifferent. I'm not concerned with hearing
about pricing as much as how migration and ongoing support was/is.

After lengthy reviews of Apptix and BPOS, BPOS is clearly not ready for prime
time. They have some odd limitations that appear to be more a result of going
to market too soon than anything else. At the moment Apptix looks like a better
enterprise partner

My understanding is that to implement mailbox resiliency in Exchange 2010,
you must have the Enterprise edition of the OS on each server in the DAG. When
I run Dell's Exchange 2010 advisory tool at
http://advisors.dell.com/advisorweb/Advisor.aspx?advisor=b6372fc5-7556-4340-8328-b8a88e2e64b2-001ebc;4c=usl=encs=g_5,
it indicates that a solution for my size org (tiny at ~50 users) should use
Windows 2008 Standard x64 Edition. This despite indicating that a DAG is
desired.

The tool is just wrong, right?

RE: New Mailbox issue

2010-12-21 Thread Steve Hart
The new server is Corp-Exchange. The old was Corp-Exchange07.

UPDATE: We have another E2007 server (called WI-Exchange07) in a trusted
domain. It's all the same Exchange Org and the same AD Forest. I am able to
create mailboxes on either server using the interface on WI-Exchange07. I can't
create mailboxes using the interface on Corp-Exchange.

FWIW, WI-Exchange (and Corp-Exchange07) run Win 2003. Corp-Exchange (the new
box) runs Win 2008.

I can't

My understanding is that to implement mailbox resiliency in Exchange 2010,
you must have the Enterprise edition of the OS on each server in the DAG. When
I run Dell's Exchange 2010 advisory tool at
http://advisors.dell.com/advisorweb/Advisor.aspx?advisor=b6372fc5-7556-4340-8328-b8a88e2e64b2-001ebc;4c=usl=encs=g_5,
it indicates that a solution for my size org (tiny at ~50 users) should use
Windows 2008 Standard x64 Edition. This despite indicating that a DAG is
desired.

The tool is just wrong, right?

Thanks,
RS

RE: New Mailbox issue

2010-12-21 Thread Steve Hart
The DCs are a bit of a mess, as we've consolidated a couple of companies
recently and we've haven't fully consolidated. Here's the result from MAD in
event viewer

Process MAD.EXE (PID=3120). Exchange Active Directory Provider has discovered
the following servers with the following characteristics:
 (Server name | Roles | Enabled | Reachability | Synchronized | GC capable |
PDC | SACL right | Critical Data | Netlogon | OS Version)
In-site:
CORP-DC03A.wrightbg.com CDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
CORP-DC03B.wrightbg.com CDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
kent-dc03Temp.wbgkent.com CD- 1 6 6 0 0 1 1 6 1
cal-dc03.wrightbg.com CDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1

Out-of-site:
WI-DC03B.wbgppm.comCDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
WI-DC03A.wbgppm.comCDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
kent-graphics.wbgkent.com CDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 0
kent-dc2.wbgkent.com CDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 0
KentDC03.wrightbg.com CD- 1 6 6 0 0 1 1 6 1

The wbgkent.com is virtually gone, nothing is left but the DCs. The wbgppm.com
domain is the next to go.

Looks like I need to setup a new AD site for the new building that houses
Cal-DC03.

All of the DCS are 2003 except Kent-Graphics and Kent-DC2, which are 2000.

RE: 2010 DAG question

2010-12-21 Thread Webster
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638104.aspx#SoftReq

DAGs are available in both Exchange 2010 Standard Edition and Exchange 2010
Enterprise Edition. In addition, a DAG can contain a mix of servers running
Exchange 2010 Standard Edition and Exchange 2010 Enterprise Edition.

Each member of the DAG must also be running the same operating system. Exchange
2010 is supported on both the Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
operating systems. All members of a DAG must run either Windows Server 2008 or
Windows Server 2008 R2. They can't contain a combination of both Windows Server
2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

In addition to meeting the prerequisites for installing Exchange 2010, there
are operating system requirements that must be met. DAGs use Windows Failover
Clustering technology, and as a result, they require the Enterprise version of
Windows.

Are all of your DCs GCs?

Do you have AD Sites/Services configured correctly?

The DC name is a GC, but it's not the one in this building.

Thanks.

What's the name of the new exchange server and what's the name of the old one?

Background: We recently migrated from one E2007 server to a different one. This
is the first new mailbox I've triued to setup since I uninstalled the old
server.

I'm trying to create a new mailbox and I'm getting this error:
