Missing Calender appointments

2011-06-08 Thread Fergal O'Connell
HI Folks,

I have had a few people including myself whereby we Calendar appointments just
went missing from Outlook so far 3 people have noticed this. In my case I was
sitting there looking at my calendar and boom an appointment just vanished.
2 other people reported the same problem at exactly the same time a while later.

We are using Exchange 2007 Sp1 all using outlook 2010.
No network issues at the time.
No errors in the event log of the Exchange server
All users are using a Blackberry and I'm still looking at the logs there.

Can anyone assist in where I should be looking exactly to find the root cause
of this issue?

RE: Exchange Administrators rights.

2011-06-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
You can set that up using RBAC.

Note that that wouldn't prevent someone (e.g., a Domain Admin) from doing it
via ADSI as opposed to using the Exchange cmdlets.

Exchange 2010,

Anyone know of a way to stop certain exchange administrators from being able to
give full access to mailboxes or the right to setup a forwarder on a user's
mailbox?

RE: Hotmail?

2011-06-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
You can find the whitepaper that discusses the Hotmail move to Windows. It's
available for download at Microsoft.com/downloads.

The product you are thinking of is MCIS - Microsoft Commercial Internet System.
It was supposed to be integrated into Exchange/IIS with Project Mercury.
Effectively, it was replaced by HMC, but all of the goals of Mercury weren't
realized until Exchange Hosting Mode was released with Exchange 2010.

RE: Missing Calender appointments

2011-06-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
If one of the users affected was invited to a meeting that has someone with a
BES account - even if they don't have someone themselves - it can happen.

I think that Calendar Diagnostics was an Exchange 2010 feature
(Get-CalendarDiagnosticLog).

BES keeps some pretty detailed logs.

Quick question on this; the clients that are having the issue are in a trusted
domain. Could this be causing the issue? All of the tests pass but I am running
them from one of the servers in the actual domain.

On the 2010 side, I’d guess something is wrong (helpful, eh?). Try a couple of
the test-* cmdlets, like test-outlookconnectivity and test-outlookwebservices
and see what they have to say.

I have an existing Exchange 2003 server, and we’ve just introduced our first
2010 server (combined HT/CAS/MBX).

A test user on the 2010 box can schedule a meeting and see free/busy info for a
user on either the 2010 box or the 2003 server.

A user on the 2003 server can see some free/busy info for a user on the 2010
box but there seems to be a lot of lag i.e. an appointment I put in as a 2010
user half an hour back still hasn’t shown up when scheduling a meeting as a
user on the 2003 box.

I’ve ensured that both the 2003 and 2010 servers are on the replica list for
the 2003 Administrative Group and the newly created 2010 Administrative Group.

Not sure whether I’m actually having issues or just a lack of
understanding/patience – more of the latter I suspect.  Most of the migration
guides seem to focus on replicating free/busy from the 2003 server to the 2010
server, few seem to mention what happens the other way around for users on 2003
to see the free/busy status of users on 2010.

can't find the cmdlet for it. Am I missing it, or is there none? Or is
there another way of pulling those records? Is it possible?

When the clock hits midnight on Wednesday, June 8 UTC, World IPv6 day
begins. Many Web destinations-including the four most popular (Google,
Facebook, YouTube, and Yahoo)-will become reachable over IPv6 for 24
hours. (In the US, that's 8PM EDT, 5PM PDT on Tuesday). As the current
IPv4 protocol is quickly running out of its remaining 32-bit addresses,
adopting its successor's Brobdingnagian 128-bit address space is long
 overdue.

It's a great book. I teach a class based on its content. ;-)

I'm inclined to feel that a huge deal is SOHO devices and SOHO providers. In my
area, I can get a IPv6 address if I want to pony up for MPLS or DS1 or T-1,
etc. But for a cable or ADSL circuit? Nope, not gonna happen. Even if my
current hardware supported it (which it doesn't, but I could install DD-WRT on
it).

World IPv6 Day looms: what might break (and how to fix it)

 By Iljitsch van Beijnum http://arstechnica.com/author/iljitsch-van-
beijnum/ | Published about 7 hours agoLast updated about 4 hours ago
When the clock hits midnight on Wednesday, June 8 UTC, World IPv6 day
begins. Many Web destinations-including the four most popular (Google,
Facebook, YouTube, and Yahoo)-will become reachable over IPv6 for 24
hours. (In the US, that's 8PM EDT, 5PM PDT on Tuesday). As the current
IPv4 protocol is quickly running out of its remaining 32-bit addresses,
adopting its successor's Brobdingnagian 128-bit address space is long
 overdue.

2011-06-08 Thread Jason Gurtz
From what I'm seeing I think this situation will see a lot of positive
change in the next 6-9 mo. Good wiki page on this:
http://www.getipv6.info/index.php/Broadband_CPE

For a shorter print read, the current IP Journal is dedicated to IPv6
transition strategies. Well worth a read by anyone in a networking related
job IMO.

It's a great book. I teach a class based on its content. ;-)

I'm inclined to feel that a huge deal is SOHO devices and SOHO
providers.
In my area, I can get a IPv6 address if I want to pony up for MPLS or
DS1
or T-1, etc. But for a cable or ADSL circuit? Nope, not gonna happen.
Even
if my current hardware supported it (which it doesn't, but I could
install
 DD-WRT on it).

RE: HP E5500 Appliance

2011-06-08 Thread Phil Hershey
Take a little time and go to http://hp.feedroom.com. Search on E5000.
It will come back with videos that are 10 minutes or shorter. Start the
introduction, and it will cycle through them all with about 30 seconds
between them.

Basically an HP/MS co-developed and supported appliance that's a 2-blade
unit with 16 internal LFF 6G SAS drives. Each blade is has Server 2008
R2 Enterprise and Exchange 2010 SP1 installed with a 2-copy DAG already
configured between the two blades. Comes in base 16 TB or 32 TB models.
You can add expansion up to a total of 128 TB. 4-hour 24x7x365
hardware, OS and Exchange support included for 3 years.

For us that just leaves me with setting up a 2 server CAS/HT array in
each site.

RE: HP E5500 Appliance

2011-06-08 Thread KevinM
Sounds very similar to something Azaleos might build and sell (Have not looked
at their current offerings but it feels like what they sold when I worked
there). - does HP do the full management of exchange - all of the patching, BES
stuff, break fix, Teir 2 and above stuff, or are they more of a Teir3 or better
call if you can't get it yourself deal?

Where is the break even on hardware and software CAL's for this vs. going
Hosted with Office 365? - that is if you don't need customer stuff you cannot
get in the cloud?

Looks like a quick simple install. Well tested and designed by MS and HP -

Take a little time and go to http://hp.feedroom.com. Search on E5000. It will
come back with videos that are 10 minutes or shorter. Start the introduction,
and it will cycle through them all with about 30 seconds between them.

Basically an HP/MS co-developed and supported appliance that's a 2-blade unit
with 16 internal LFF 6G SAS drives. Each blade is has Server 2008 R2
Enterprise and Exchange 2010 SP1 installed with a 2-copy DAG already configured
between the two blades. Comes in base 16 TB or 32 TB models. You can add
expansion up to a total of 128 TB. 4-hour 24x7x365 hardware, OS and Exchange
support included for 3 years.

For us that just leaves me with setting up a 2 server CAS/HT array in each site.

RE: HP E5500 Appliance

2011-06-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
HP does nothing except give you an automated installer.

Long-and-short - it's designed to be two-nodes of a three-node DAG. A message
node.

Support 1000 - 5000 mailboxes, depending on load, replicate to the other server
in the shared chassis, and to a remote third node.

It includes no Exchange licenses nor CALs.

It's a slick package, but IMO, it's designed for hosters and for the LORG.

RE: Exchange 2003 Powershell help

2011-06-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
I don't think you can get everything you want from a single source.

First, I'll refer you to a script I wrote:

http://theessentialexchange.com/blogs/michael/archive/2007/11/13/a-script-for-getting-mailbox-sizes-using-wmi-in-powershell.aspx

Then a scriptcenter article that displays everything you can get from
Exchange_Mailbox:

http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/fcf4fe8b-2260-4382-aee5-d737f6cb6627

Between the two you should be able to get everything you want.
