We use Policy Patrol from Red Earth Software, not too expensive, and has some
great features, including configuring both a HTML/RTF and TXT format
disclaimer. Not to mention all the built in rules for compliancy, attorney
client communications, etc...

Works with Exchange 2003/2007 and I believe they are testing 2010 right now.

I'll be using the Vipre email security to do this (formerly known as Ninja).

IIRC, there was a free program... GF something... that could do this? Or maybe
it only did disclosures (text)?
Obviously, I could send out instructions to have everyone manually edit their

No advice for Exchange 2007, but we had one heck of a time setting it up for

3rd party app. I've heard that integration with 2007 is better, but we're not
quite there yet.

On a related note, a lot of the people that had iPhones turned them back in and
went back to the Blackberry.

I will let you know that Apple Tech Support is less than useless and Microsoft

Oh my gosh am I about to hang myself over this problem; with what seems
to be a simple issue is evading me for a solution.

Exchange 2003 SP2, Windows 2003 R2 (patched)

A few times per week, users will report that when sending to 'one
particular' email address - it gets bounced with the message below.
Other outbound messages from the client at that time will go through.
And at the same time if another employee sends an email to the same
recipient it will go through. Each employee that experiences this
bounce message is sending to a different recipient/domain; and they
don't always get bounced.

My research has revealed a number of old posts with the same problem but
do not provide any solutions.

I case of beer for the one who solves this for me - so I can sleep at
night. PLEASE HELP ME!

mail.domain.com #5.5.0 smtp;503 This mail server requires authentication
when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address. Please check your
mail client settings or contact your administrator to verify that the
domain or address is defined for this server.

RE: email archiving

2008-06-10 Thread Tom Strader - NCBPAC Systems Administrator
Hi Paul,

My environment is almost exactly as yours.
We are a Non-Profit entity also.

We have been using GFI Mail Archiver with SQL Server 2005 which has
worked well, however some of the Exchange MVP's may state that
Journaling is not a good choice due to the fact it could cause high CPU
usage however we have not seen that occur in this environment...yet!

YMMV!

If I had it to do over again, I would choose another program. One I have
looked at is from MailTrust, www.Mailtrust.com
http://www.Mailtrust.com or you can go with the one offered by our
host, Sunbelt-Software, which looks very nice indeed called, Sunbelt
Exchange Archiver.

You have to decide if you want to host your own archival solution or
outsource.
Both have their Pro's and Con's, the biggest negative being security of
information in the email's archived if you outsource and loss of
control.

HTH some,
Tom

RE: email archiving

2008-06-10 Thread Tom Strader - NCBPAC Systems Administrator
SEA doesn't use Journaling.

Direct Archiving eliminates need for Journaling
SEA provides a unique Direct Archiving feature that enables archiving of
emails immediately after they are received. Direct Archiving is a
significant breakthrough in efficient email archiving which eliminates
the need for the Exchange Journal mailbox. Immediate archiving onto
storage media improves the performance of the Exchange server, helps to
ensure legal compliance, and diminishes the necessity to apply
scheduler, threshold and quota archiving jobs.

Not sure about that indexing thought, xobni is not that much different
then enabling Instant search on an outlook client is it? All it has to
do is make a local index file... Cached mode has lots of advantages and
a few disadvantages, one deploying it in an organization with high
change can lead to offline address book issues at the best of times. I
am a big advocate of cached mode but understanding its sweet spot and
where best to leverage and when to use online mode can help in the
deployment and to the end user experience greatly...

Only works with cached mode?

That's a stellar selling point. Really. If it were to index an
Exchange box directly, that would be a very bad thing - bring it to
its knees, if more than one or two users used it.

Pity the fools who ban cached mode. That's their problem, not mine.

This is one of the few Outlook add-ins I would actually pay for.

I can get Outlook to max out CPU on its own. I can't seem to get
Xobni to
do so. I am going to test your public folder issue later today.

 Gmail is still 'beta'. :P

This is still a beta and still acts like one.

The previous beta I tried marked messages in public folders as read
when
 they weren't.

This one locked up Outlook @ 100% CPU in less than 5 minutes of poking
at
it. Didn't even get to see if they'd fixed the marked-as-read
problem.

I'll try it again when the word beta has been banished...

I don't think that's true though. The FAQ recommends cached mode - and
explicitly notes that if you don't use cached mode you'll abuse the
Exchange
server.

But the documentation may lag behind the beta; and I'm not about to
reindex
my mailbox to test. Sorry :-P

Exchange 2007 SP1 Rollup 1

2008-03-17 Thread Administrator
Does anyone know how to determine if the following Exchange 2007 Rollup has
already been installed on my Exchange box? I am assuming it would have been
installed as a part of a Windows Update, but if I go to Add/Remove programs, I
don't see it listed. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, has anyone
installed this rollup and found that is fixes some of the memory issues that
have been discussed in this group with Exchange 2007?

That was it. Now it shows up. How about the memory usage? Any noticed
improvements since installing the Rollup?
