RE: One contact list for a company

2012-12-03 Thread Celone, Mike
I think the best thing would be to load them into the GAL. Updating them might
be a challenge though.

If they want one contact list for all contacts the GAL is the way to go IMO.

I have a company (8 users, 4K contacts) that use office 365 and want to work
off of only one contact list for outlook and mobile devices. Does anyone have
any ideas on how I might be able to accomplish this?

They would like when one person updates a contact to update on all computers
and phones. If it were only outlook that would be easy (shared mailbox) but
adding in the mobile devices I'm at a loss for idea's.

The only way I can think to accomplish this would be to export the master
contact list to each computer then whenever anyone updates a contact send a
vcard to everyone.

RE: Adding 2 CAS Servers

When your first CAS server is setup there is no CAS array yet. Since CAS is
the first role that needs to be installed you can't have a CAS array without

Just to avoid confusion, a CAS will always be inserted into a CAS array

Or, as Steve just said, try and get HLB's. They are *so* much better than wnlb.
Used wnlb at first, now Kemp and the difference is night and day.

Hello,

We are still in the process of setting up an Exchange 2010 infrastructure to
live in coexistence with our current Exchange 2003 mail system.

So far we have setup 2 servers running Exchange 2010 and holding the
CAS/HUB/MBX roles, both member of a DAG and a cas array.

Because of the limitation that you cannot use windows NLB on DAG members, we
want to add 2 CAS/HUB servers to the picture so we can use NLB.

How would it affect our current setup? Do we need to uninstall the CAS role
from the 2 current all-in-one servers or can we just leave them (without them

Would they need to be removed from the casarray?

Thank you.

RE: Adding 2 CAS Servers

2012-10-03 Thread Celone, Mike
Like Steve said I would definitely consider HLBs over WNLB. We are also
migrating from 2003 to 2010 and went with Kemp load balancers. We tested WNLB
but it was much more difficult to manage than the Kemp devices. We purchased a
pair of Kemp LM-2200s for less than $4k. By the time you factor in the cost of
Windows and Exchange server licenses you are getting close to a pair of
redundant HLBs anyways.

Hiya,

If you're able to get budget to licence 2 additional Exchange Standard edition
servers, are you 100% sure you can't afford a LB? Have you checked out Load
Balancers like those from KEMP?

NLB is really a poor alternative. Especially if you're using a virtual
environment.

You don't need to uninstall the CAS and HT role from those servers but I would
if you definitely want to go down that route.

Thanks Joe. I had noticed the same thing. The fact that no one else has

RE: Forefront roadmap changes

I know that UAG can also be used but that comes with much more expensive
licensing than TMG. TMG was licensed by CPU where UAG is CAL based. It would
be much more expensive to license UAG over TMG for just about everyone.

RE: Exchange 2003 Connection Filtering

Out of the box the Exchange 2003 IMF doesn't provide anyway to whitelist

I've got a question about the Connection Filtering in Exchange 2003.
All our incoming email is handled by our parent company's mail relays.
They then pass on any mail intended for our server to my Exchange
environment. Does the connection filtering in Exchange 2003 look into
the headers of the email to see where the email originated from or does
it just check the last connection? If it only see the last connection
then this won't help me because all email always appears to come from
our parent company's mail relays.

The reason I ask is lately a lot our Blackberry activation messages are
ending up in people's junk mail folders (I think it's related to our
Outlook 2010 rollout but I'm not 100% sure yet) and it's causing my
activations to fail. I figure if I can add the Blackberry network range
to my connection filter that would prevent them from being tagged as
junk mail.

in the next month or so moving to Exchange 2003 (for now!) since that seems to
be the easiest migration path at this point (apart from creating a new Exchange

My question is during the period between upgrading the domain and upgrading

or will I be OK without it for a few weeks until I start the Exchange upgrade

Subject: Possibly OT: Unable to reply or forward after Outlook 2010
Upgrade

This might be a little OT but I know we are just starting out with
testing Outlook 2010 and have run into an issue. We are upgrading from
Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2010 and have found that when we reply or
forward an email we get an undeliverable message with the following
text.

This message could not be sent. Try sending the message again later, or
contact your network administrator. Unknown Error. Error is
[0x80040900-0x80040900-0x0003ee].

We can create a new email and it sends fine but cannot reply or forward.
We are running Exchange 2003 SP2 fully patched. I've Googled (and
Binged) this and have found plenty of other people with the problem but
no real answers yet. Any help is appreciated.

After checking out our server I see we are getting an MSExchangeIS error

RE: Blackberry devices Push Email

2010-05-28 Thread Celone, Mike
Actually with the BES Express some carriers allow you to use the BIS
plans instead. This was a new change with the Express version only.
T-Mobile allows you to use a BIS plan but you won't get OTA activations
for your devices, they would need to be connected to the server. I know
Verizon does require you to have a Enterprise plan even if you use the
BES Express server.

BIS is actually handled by Rim and works with your phone carriers. It's
a portal you login to and setup your connection or you can configure
Internet email right on your phone. It in turns polls the mail servers
and then delivers the email to your phone. It works perfectly with OWA
on Exchange 2003 - 2010. No additional charges other than how your
carrier charges for Internet usage. Also pop services..
www.blackberry.com/go/vzw for example

BES Express, latest version. Is completely free. If you have an
Exchange server you can install it on your server or a separate server
and it will sync all contacts/calendar/emails/tasks. You must have your
blackberry provisioned for BES services by the cell carrier. Some
charge for this; others include it.
Bes professional 4.x charged 99.00 per blackberry that is no longer the
case in bes express version 5.

BIS is Blackberry Internet Service. It will sync via your OWA portal.
BES express is free so $$ shouldn't be an issue any more if that's
what's stopping you from running a BES server.

A quick question.
Can a Blackberry device such as a BB Bold 9700 support push email
without having a BES server, maybe using the BB equivilant of
ActiveSync?
We have a few a Windows/Symbian based devices that have push email to
the phones. The Windows based ones use ActiveSync and SSL cert and the
Symbian ones use Mail For Exchange and a SSL cert

Thanks

I have a Bold 9700 on ATT and it doesn't do this. The ATT version has a
slightly older OS 5 than the T-Mobile one though. I am on OS 5.0.0.405
whereas the T-Mo 9700 comes with OS 5.0.0.586. Could be a bug in that
version.

[Shook hijack]

Speaking of the 9700 (T-Mobile), I've noticed with the new threaded SMS
function, that sometimes contact names are not displayed when a text
message is received, only the sending number. Yes the contacts are in
my local address book and it doesn't seem to be sending carrier
specific.

Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Anyone seen this before? I'm guessing this has something to do with it

I started all this that the site had lost power and the UPS failed so it
could be something corrupt on the server that is causing this.
