RE: Moving Exchange to Co-Lo

2011-09-02 Thread John C Owen
Will the new DC also be the Global Catalog server?

I believe that Exchange needs this as well as the AD

Subject: Moving Exchange to Co-Lo

I've been asked to move our Spam Titan server and Exchange server to a Co-Lo
facility. I also plan on moving one of our DCs to the Co-Lo, as well.

My tentative plan,

1) Create the LAN segment, get the routing working, create firewall
policies, etc.
2) Create a new AD site for the Co-Lo
3) Move a domain controller to the Co-Lo. (When I reconfigure the IP
address, it should automatically be in the new site.)
4) Move the Spam Titan and Exchange servers, reconfigure their IPs. (When I
give the Exchange server the new IP, it should bind to the local DC.)
5) Reconfigure all DNS (Internal and external) with the new addresses.
6) Reconfigure our mapped IPs to route external traffic to the new internal
IPs.

Are there problems that I'm overlooking?

Related question:
We are using SCR in our environment. The target computer is also a file server
and it will remain in our Corporate office. The two servers will be connected
by a 15M MPLS connection. Does this connection create any problems for SCR?

WE have a similar setup here

One major difference:

Our wireless settings are such that when you log in to Wireless A, you're on

Sign onto Wireless B and it's set for public and outside vendors use and you

When I connect to the wireless network I keep getting prompted for a password.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is?

RE: Dealing with leavers on Exchange 2010?

2011-06-18 Thread John C Owen
If the person leaves the company, wouldn't it be easier to export the mailbox
to a .pst file, and if someone has a need to receive mail for the ex-employee,
add the email address to the list of addresses

Subject: Dealing with leavers on Exchange 2010?

On Exchange 2003 if someone leaves the company I disabled their AD account, set
the "Associated External Account" permission on "SELF" on their mailbox, and
the account can still receive email but the user cannot login to the account.

I can't see how to do the same thing on 2010?

I can "disable" the mailbox in the EMC but this just unlinks the mailbox and
removes the Exchange attributes. So I guess I can disable the AD account in
ADUC, but I can't find the documentation on whether doing this leaves the
mailbox able to still receive email?

Thanks,
Paul

Subject: Remote XP Users on Ex10

Hi All

Hopefully you'll be able to help me, as you guys are the "all knowing"

We are currently in the process of migrating from Ex2k3 to Ex2k10 and we have a
number of remote users using rpc/http on xp.

When the users are on ex2k3 the rpc/http works correctly, when since we've
migrated their mailboxes over to Ex2k10 their outlook never connects to https.

This works correctly on win7, so I know its not an issue with mailbox settings
or certs to a point

The only way the xp users can use their accounts is by connecting to our vpn
first so it communicates over tcp/ip.

I have also tried various versions of outlook (2003/2007/2010) but still the
same problem :(

We have 2 mailbox servers in a dag, 2 cas servers in the casarray, and 2
barracuda load balancers.

All ex2k10 servers are running sp1 ru2 (8.0.535.0).

Ive tried googling the issue but no resolution yet :(

Any of you lovely people have an idea what could be wrong, or where to look?

Cheers in advance

John

Good Afternoon,

Hopefully, this is a simple issue, but I'd like to stop banging my head against
the desk

We have a user that changed her name a few years ago and all of the mail from
the maiden name account was being forwarded to her married name account

We have migrated all of our users to Exchange 2007 SP1 from Exchange 2003

The maiden name account has since been deleted and she receives all of her mail
without incident

When sending a meeting request to her ONLY account on our server, I get the
following error from our Exchange Server

Thank you to any and all in advance,

John C Owen

If they are using the built-in e-mail client, have them download the trial of

issues with different Android devices related to the built-in mail apps prior
to version 2.3 of the Android OS. The Touchdown app seems to work universally

I have not seen this one before. A user reported that their Droid cell phone
is having sync issues. Specifically, when they send an email from their phone,
in winds up in their Drafts folder in Outlook. As well, if they make a
calendar appointment on their phone, it does not send it to Outlook. However
if they book the appoint in Outlook it is sent to the phone.

Any seen this before?

Thanks,

Subject: Distribution List that doesn't show

I've been asked to create a distribution list in Exchange that includes
contacts outside the company. We currently have half a dozen employees
maintaining personal mailing lists in Outlook and, of course, updates get
missed.

The oddball caveat is that we don't want the distribution list address to be
displayed outside the company. The "to" addresses should be a list of the real
email addresses.

An email to my test list goes out displaying the group address. How do I get
Exchange to expand the list in a way that doesn't display the group address to
the outside world?

Exchange 2007

Steve

Subject: Outlook 2010 AutoArchive is not functioning

User set up:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, current patches
Outlook 2010 - Cached mode (Laptop user)
Exchange 2003, current SP and patches
PST that is being used is < 875MB in size.

I have AutoArchive set up properly - it's supposed to run every 14 days, move
items older than 2 months, & applied to all folders. Went through and manually
selected the Do not AutoArchive radio button on folders that don't need it.

AutoArchive will run, but nothing gets moved to the PST. When I run Archive
from Mailbox Cleanup, select either Use AutoArchive Settings or manually select
the mailbox and the Older than date, nothing is moved. User has several
sub-folders created under the Inbox, so manually clicking and dragging is quite
time consuming but is what we're doing right now to clear out his mailbox.
I've found only a few posts where other people have seen the same issue - back
in early 2010, nothing recent.

Any ideas?

I have a user that received a message with an attachment. Using outlook, the
user saved the attachment, then removed the attachment from the email, saving
the email when exiting. The email still shows in his inbox, but now without
the attachment. Now his manager wants to see the original email with the
attachment. The original unaltered message cannot be found in the deleted
items, or deleted item recovery. Also, he did this the same day the message
came in before backups were run, so there is no chance of recovering it with an
old copy of the database in a RSG. Does anyone know of a way to retrieve the
original version of this message? In case it matters, the environment is

RE: ActiveSync Remote Wipe TimeOut

2010-11-08 Thread John C Owen
We had a similar issue when setting up our E2007 server

While testing the remote device wipe with a Droid X, it continually would wipe
the device each time after the activation with V

Once we deleted the partnership, it worked ok

Took us a while to figure that one out

2010 will keep wiping the device if the same partnership is reestablished. This
can be fun in real life.

* My Son sold an old IPod touch he had set to sync with our Exchange
server

* I remote wiped the device

* A few days later my kid calls me and says " The guy who bought my
iPod says it keeps reformatting itself every time he does a restore" - The
ITunes restore would recreate / restore the device partnership, Exchange saw
it, then wiped the device again as soon as it synced. - We told the kid not do
the restore and all was good.

* From what Trenton told me the kid had the device wiped about 7 times..

Yes, it'll be queued at least until the device/account partnership is deleted.

What version of Exchange? I'm pretty sure with Exchange 2003 the remote wipe
command will remain active until you cancel the operation.

If you issue a remote wipe to an Activesync device and the device was off when

for the remote device to get turned on?

RE: Rules firing only once... any thoughts?

2010-10-20 Thread John C Owen
I believe, like in the OOO, that you can set the rule to reply to every
message versus only one message per sender per day

Subject: Rules firing only once... any thoughts?

Me again.

A while back I had inquired about a problem I had where I set up an
Outlook 2007 rule on a mailbox whose purpose was to reply to each and
every email that comes in to that Inbox with a "We have received your
mail" kind of template mail. My problem was that it would only fire once
for each unique sender.

So, here I am a while later, and I'm trying to fix that issue. My
approach was to take all of the customer email domains and set up a rule
that says:

---

Apply this rule after the message arrives

with "customerdomain1.com" or "customerdomain2.com"
or"customerdomain3.com" or"customerdomain4.com" or"customerdomain5.com"
in the sender's address

reply using c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\templates\Thank
you for your email.oft

---

There will actually be a little over 100 domain names in this rule.

My problem remains the same, though... it's treating it as if it's an
OOO it only fires once for every domain name. What am I doing wrong?
It would be ideal if I didn't even have to specify the domain name and
could just make a rule that said, "when an email arrives, reply using
this template." But, as I said above, I tried that, and it only sent the
reply once for each email sender. I thought this approach would fix it,
but it didn't.

Thanks for any nuggets of wisdom. Google has failed me thus far.

Evan

Single Exchange 2007 sp2 server

Hi All,

Over the past 2 days one of our exchange databases has grown 100%
(roughy 40gb). Getting mailbox statistics doesn't indicate any specific
user as being the receiving end of this increase. Luckily, I can
increase the disk space at will, but this is rather alarming as the
database hasn't grown that much for over a year. Anybody know of any
tool or powershell command that would identify where this increase has
ended up?

Has anyone else used ActiveSync with RSA? Would I need to create

Why are you creating a mailbox just to forward to a contact?

I have not does this with Exchange 2007, but a couple of years ago we
did this in Exchange 2003 using contacts only. Create a new contact
with the SMTP address of usern...@psnet.com and the External E-mail
Address as usern...@bellsouth.net.

This should allow you to receive on the psnet.com address and redirect
it to the bellsouth.net address.

I'm stumped here. Trying to simply create an alias so
usern...@psnet.com will forward to usern...@bellsouth.net, for example.
I'm from a unix mailserver background and this is beyond extremely
simple there. Alas, it seems not in Exchange (2007) (well maybe it is
and im just too much of a noob).

Ok, so I go into Recipient Configuration -> Mail Contact. I create a
contact for this user with SMTP:usern...@bellsouth.net as the external
email address.

I then go into Recipient Configuration -> Mailbox. New mailbox. User
mailbox. New user. Fill out details (by the way, the username will be
different for each address, lets say un...@psnet.com should go to
usern...@bellsouth.net)

Now in Mail Flow settings, Delivery Options, Check Forward, select the
contact that was made earlier.

This works great if I send email to this box from within the Exchange
organization, but any external user sending mail in gets a 550 User
Unknown.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks,

RE: Antivirus & Antispam Suggestion?

Good Afternoon,

We are using (and have been)

It's priced reasonable, we support about 150 mailboxes on Exchange 2003

Good web-based interface allows you setup users to have the ability to
look at and determine if it is SPAM or not(we don't enable this for
everyone)

We block on average about 20,000 to 40,000 bad messages a day (we're a
photobooth company so you can imagine the interesting items we get)
