Default folders, are usually their C drive. Sounds like they lost their
network connection when typing the notes.

Someone in Sr. Mgmt spent an hour adding notes to an appointment. When
they were done, they hit the save and close button. They got a message
something to the effect of "unable to save and close, would you like to
save it to your default folders?". They clicked yes and then could not
find his changes. I can not find them anywhere. Any ideas where they
might of gone?

RE: Free/Busy Shows "No Information" after June 30th - Solved

Title: RE: Free/Busy Shows "No Information" after June 30th

Months
ago I added some additional web sites (realy just redirectors to the main
Exchange web site).  To make them all work on port 80 I added host
headers.  Because there was no host header for just the server name,
free/busy did not work right and the properties of the public folders could not
be accessed through Exchange System Manager.

  Of
  course I did.

  I
ran into another problem that is probably related.

  In
Exchange System Manager, when I try to access the properties of a Public
  Folder, I get the message:
The object is no longer available.
Press F5 to refresh the display, and then try again.

  All
I can find is Q309508 which did not help.

  This
might be related to the problem that I am having since from what I understand,
Free/Busy information is stored in a Public Folder.

  Any
  thoughts??

A while back someone called me and told me that they could not send me email
because my personal mailbox was full. I tested it and sure enough, that was
what my server was reporting. I have never set any limits. I looked all
over and could not find that one of our other administrators set a limit
anywhere. I cleaned up my mailbox and the problem (symptom) went away. No
one else in the organization was complaining so I did not worry about it.
Today, two other users started having the same problem. They are in the
same mailbox store (my mailbox is in a different store in a different
storage group on the same server). One users mailbox currently has 508MB of
mail and the other user 139MB.

Any idea what might be up?

In Exchange System Manager
Administration Group -->Folders.
Properties on a public folder has a tab called limits

I'm not sure about number of items, but certainly you can limit folder size
and age of contents.

You can also set this with the pfadmin utility from the Exchange2000
Resource Kit.

I am running Exchange 2000.

One of my depts has set up some public folders for some of their programming
lists. They would only like retain the messages until they hit a certain
qty or until they reach a certain age.

I can't seem to find where Exchange will do that on its own. Am I missing
it?

If Exchange will not do it on its own, is there any software out there to
help me?

I am running Exchange 2000.

One of my depts has set up some public folders for some of their programming lists.
They would only like retain the messages until they hit a certain qty or until they
reach a certain age.

I can't seem to find where Exchange will do that on its own. Am I missing it?

If Exchange will not do it on its own, is there any software out there to help me?

Answer: One domain is not receiving mail after a restore

2002-02-19 Thread Larry Penrod

The answer was that the recipient policy for that domain was corrupt. Deleting and
recreating it solved the problem.

Over the weekend, we moved our Exchange Server (Exchange 2000 SP2) to a
new SAN by doing a backup and then restore. Exchange IS service would
not start so I called Microsoft. We ended up reinstalling Exchange
Exchange using the disasterrecovery switch and then everything appeared

I come to find out this morning that one of the domains in not receiving

Every other domain is working fine.

The user can not send any mail to this one user. However, she gave us an alternate

When I go to the message tracking center, the message that I sent, I see the last two

I am having issues with Sprint.ca, but different message. Look for error
4031 in the application log. It looks like it isn't making it out, but ours
did and not even protocol logging picked it up.

How is this user different than the others?
Do you have other domains, OUs, or policies that differentiate this user
from
the other users? The error code implies relaying.

As Kelly mentioned, was anything changed that would go into effect after the
services were restarted?

Is it any message? Or a specific one?

It may contain key words that are not allowed.

What is the user's name, is it Dick, or some other word that may be
considered offensive?

Currently we are running Exchange 2000 standard 120 day evaluation
edition with SP1 installed on a Windows 2000 SP2 member server in a
native mode domain. I have searched google, MS KB and Swinc.com for any
caveats to upgrading to the licensed version and don't see anything of

RE: Happy Birthday to email

2001-10-02 Thread Larry Penrod

My boss used to work for Jackson County in MO and at their prison, they
recently installed a system that makes all of the inmates wear barcodes.
Every time they leave an area, they are checked out and if they don't
make it to the next area within the alloted time, security is notified.
It is all RFID.

The technology behind it is very basic, the antenna energizes the tag
which broadcasts out it's data back to the antenna. The data is
formatted similarly to a PDF 417 bar code if your familiar with 2-D
symbologies. The tags will carry up to 1 or 2 K of data and are
read-write. The Maine Turnpike uses similar technology to manage toll
accounts. You can buy toll access at a discounted rate ($50 worth of
travel for $40) and the RFID device decrements whenever you enter the
highway. An LCD warns you when you're low on cash. Commercial accounts
carry no cash, the transactions build up on the host and you get a
monthly bill for travel. Like my snow blower, when it's working, it's
the best thing since sliced bread.

Nothing yet, the AIAG has a program where they embed them in tires so
when a car rolls off the line it passes in front of the reader which
captures the VIN and the serial numbers of the tires. Then, when
there's a recall, they can easily figure out where the bad tires went.
We're considering doing the same thing in our transmissions and other
key components we produce. No concrete plan yet, just a lot of ideas.

Sorry it was a long day yesterday.

Open AD Users and Computers
Go to View and select Advanced Options
Then right click your domain and go to properties and you should see a
security tab.

That is where you setup your security for the root of your AD Domain.
Most settings in there are set to this Object/Folder only and don't
propagate to the rest of the tree. Just take a look around at the
settings and you should be able to figure it out. If you need more help

No it isn't configured that way by default.

You need to find out what info needs to be queryed by the anonymous
connection
Then you must give the everyone or anonymous logon group access to read
this information from active directory. They need to beable to list the
contents of the OU you want to give access to and then beable to read
attributes of User Objects.

I have someone coming in to add a text-to-speech module into our voice
mail to read email over the phone.

They gave me some things to take care of before they come out.

One thing I am not finding information on is the following: LDAP must be
enabled and configured to support anonymous access.

Is it configured that way by default, or is there something that I need
to do?

W2K running E2K.

I am unable to send to a paticular domain: larkin-grp.com

Messages just sit in the queue and eventually time out.

I went to http://www.zmailer.org/mxverify.html and it appears happy with
their mail server.

When I telnet into their server (216.61.124.81 on port 25), it does some
strange things. I try to enter EHLO beap.com or HELO beap.com and I get
a 250 OK before I finish typing. Then everything I type after that is
Command not recognized.

If you try that do you get the same thing?

How do I go about troubleshooting this?

Oops, NDR :)

Does not hang on a single-click, just a double-click.

On a different system, I clicked one time on one of the msgs and hit the
delete key. After about 20 mins, a Microsoft Outlook dialog box opened
and says Deleting Items... That dialog box has been up for about 15
mins now.

DNR? Oh, you mean NDR. When you single click on the message -- ie,
simply
select it -- does it hang then? Or when you double click -- ie, attempt
to
open it -- is that when it hangs?

I'd bet that if you let the system sit for a while, you'll be able to
open
them.

I have one user whos account I can not access. When I try, Outlook
(O2K) hangs. I have deleted the profile and recreated it. I have tried
accessing his account from different machines. I have rebooted the
server.

When I launch Outlook, it opens, I can see the inbox, but as soon as I
click on something, it hangs.

I am running E2K on W2K.

Any ideas? I am new to Exchange.

Depends on what priority level you sent it and what settings you have on

I have noticed that when users send an email to a misspelled domain, it
sets in the SMTP queue for days (maybe longer). I sent a test message
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] about 15 mins ago and it is setting in the
queue. I have not been notified yet that it is undeliverable.

Shouldn't it not be able to resolve the MX record and immediately
generate a NDR?

We had an employee leave a week ago. We disabled his account. He came
back today to work for one day. I reenabled his account.

I can access his account via OWA, but when I setup a profile for Outlook
and I click on Check Name, I get: The name could not be resolved. The
name could not be matched to a name in the address list.

If I type just part of his name so that I get a list of users, his name
does not show up in the list.

I can't find any info on it. I have run out of time.

I just remember that the server uses a different method to contact the
client when there is a new email and that method is not working.

The symptoms were that you were not notified when there was new mail and
if you clicked on another folder or opened an msg, you would then see
the new mail.

Thanks for the help! If it helps these are active/active clusters. The
Active Directory shows the virtual server name for the user, but the 5.5
directory shows the actual server name as the home MDB and home MTA for
the
mailbox instead of the virtual server name.

This may be a quick question.. I Hope..

We are rolling out Exchange 2000 hot and heavy. So far we have migrated
about 4000 5.5 mailboxes.

one issue we have not been able to explain to users and that I have seen
in
my own Inbox. This problem did not show up in testing and I did not see
this in my own inbox until I started to load up the new E2K servers with
users.

Ok, so you have Outlook open and you know an email is coming or at least
you
are checking to see if any is there before you go to a meeting. You
dont
see any messages in Outlook, but if you refresh you screen or click on
another message you get a few emails...? To give you a little more
detail,
I can receive an email on my Blackberry 957 WSM (Wireless-Snail-Mail)
but
not see it in Outlook until I refresh, click on another message, or wait
long enough for some interval to pass.

I am hoping there is some kind of configuration I can adjust to prevent
this
from happening. Around here Execs watch Outlook like its the only thing
they use and most times they know when certain emails are coming or
should
be there. Does anyone know why this is, or seen this yourself?

TIA

Mike
