OWA -- No text

2001-12-10 Thread William Smith

Has any one seen an issue with OWA where a user can log in, view his/her
message list, but when they click on a message to view the header shows up
but now text shows up in the white space below the header?

I am still looking through the technet articles with no luck.

Also note this machine has been "security harderned" (Yes I know, give you
the IP and you'll test the security for me...) Which leads me to believe
that the problem may be a permissions issue.

The file that message page references is /forms/IPM/Note/read.asp. The
permissions were set to allow Domain admins full control, and authenticated
users everything but full control.

Ex5.5, SP4 all the latest patches.

Thanks in advance,

William L. Smith

Download IE6 for redistribution

2001-12-10 Thread William Smith

I've seen this site before, but can't remember where it is

What is Microsofts web address for downloading IE so I can throw it onto a
CD and load it onto another machine. I don't need the 468kb file that then
downloads the real IE.

Calendar Corruption and Bouncing Emails

2001-08-14 Thread William Smith

Odd problem...

Win2K SP1
Exchange 5.5 SP4
Outlook 2000 SR1
User on separate subnet
User behind an internal firewall

A user came to me complaining that evertime that he tried to accept a
meeting request his outlook would freeze.("program not responding"). We let
this problem go for a while while we tried to troubleshoot it because he
could accept his meetings and work with his email through OWA.

Eventually when he went to just look at his calendar, outlook would freeze.
He'd click on the calendar folder in the folder list and outlook would lock
up.

So I backed up his mail folders into a PST except for his calendar. Blew
away his mailbox, created a new one, and added the mail folders back.

He doesn't have trouble with his calendar anymore but intermittently emails
to his account get bounced. Postmaster is not notified, he only knows when
the sender (on the same Ex server and GAL) FWD's the email to him at the
same address, which usually goes through.

Note 1: This user doesn't have all that much data in his mailbox. I have a
few users with over a gig (yes I know) that have no problem.

Note 2: I am getting a error in the app log on the Ex server about every 10
mins. Another Ex server in the same site holds the Free/Busy unhidden.:
1038 - MSExchangeFB
Unable to access the Microsoft Schedule+ Free/Busy Information folder.

Ensure that the (hidden) Microsoft Schedule+ Free/Busy Information folder
exists. Open the Recipients container and select View.HiddenRecipients.

Note 3: This is the second user with a problem similar to this, but
recreating her mailbox and blowing away her calendar fix her problem.

Any ideas?

_Auto Accept Utilities Question

2001-08-30 Thread William Smith

With exchangecodes' auto accept utilities is there a way to make the script
auto accept with a conflict. e.g. If a meeting request is sent that
conflicts with a existing meeting, I still want to accept the meeting

Is this possible with auto accept utilities?

client operation failed message at about 70% complete. In event viewer, I
get an event id:1151 message with a type:warning and category:rules. This

Remote Exchange User Issues

2001-10-23 Thread William Smith

I have some strange issues with a remote exchange user. He is running OL

pastes the same information into a new email it sends through with no
problem.

Sometimes when he tries to sync he gets the error message below. And
sometimes he gets what appears to be a good sync...but the last message he
has when he opens outlook offline is from the 19th.

I have also had him search for *.ost on his hard drive so he could delete it
and create a new one, but the search didn't find any *.ost files though
offline files are configed.

I have seen this before. Sounds to me like a corrupt .ost file. (I am
guessing that the file is hidden which is why the search did not find it for
you.) To find the file manually follow these directions.

Right-click on the Outlook icon and select properties from the pop-up
window. Select the Exchange Server service and click the properties button.
On the Advanced tab, you will see the Offline Folders button. Click that
and it will show you where the .ost file is. (Typically located in a
sub-directory of the user's Windows profile directory) Using Windows
explorer open the directory that this file is in and rename the .ost file.
Then when you start Outlook again and synchronize it will recreate the file.
If that does not resolve the issue, the URL's listed in your synchronization
log below, describe other remedies to these pesky synchronization errors.

Hope that helps!
Peter Dahl.

OT:(Slightly) Saving Outlook Email to text

2001-10-24 Thread William Smith

Here's the deal. I'm using webtrends to create reports for our website. The
log files are emailed to me inline (not as attachments but as the body of
the email). Webtrends can't read the email directly so I save them to .txt
files. The solution I would like to work out could go two ways.

1. Select all of the outlook messages containing log files and save to one
txt file periodically. This option almost works now except that the logs get
saved from newest --to-- oldest. Which webtrends doesn't
like. It needs oldest to newest. If there is a way to reverse this order it
would be perfect. (I've tried sorting both ways by date..no luck).

2. Create a batch file that automatically goes in and extracts the subject
from new emails and drops it into a txt file. Is there a command line
available to put this in a bat file?

Outlook 2000 by the way.

Applying Mailbox Limits....After the Fact

2002-02-14 Thread William Smith
Title: Applying Mailbox LimitsAfter the Fact

Does anyone know of a utility or script that can do the following under Exchange 5.5, Win2k Server SP2, About 250 or so recipients:

I would like to apply mailbox limits at 275mb warn and 300mb disable send.

The twist is that for existing users over 300mb I would like their limit warning to be 75mb more than what they currently have and their disable send limit to be 100mb more than what they have.

Is there a utility or script available that will scan my mailboxes and apply these limits? Maybe I haven't figured out the correct wording yet but I can't find any reference to this on the web or technet.

Does anyone know of a utility or script that can
do the following under Exchange 5.5, Win2k Server SP2, About 250 or so
recipients:
I would like to apply mailbox limits at 275mb
warn and 300mb disable send. The
twist is that for existing users over 300mb I would like their limit warning
to be 75mb more than what they currently have and their disable send limit
to be 100mb more than what they have.
Is there a utility or script available that will
scan my mailboxes and apply these limits? Maybe I haven't figured out the
correct wording yet but I can't find any reference to this on the web or
technet.

True
indeed. We've got exec levels at over a Gig mailboxes. Pretty ridiculous,
eh.  That's what happens when they build an exchange server w/o
limits!

  Use the HEADERS.EXE
file to build a CSV template of the mandatory and optional values you want to
extract from the database. Use the directory export tool with the CSV file you
generated with HEADERS and then set the limits you wanted on the boxes you
  wanted, then import.

  Barring that, and
you want to set a GLOBAL value, use the values on the server in the Private

Internal mail bouncing for one sender/recipient

2002-03-18 Thread William Smith
Title: Internal mail bouncing for one sender/recipient

I'm having issues with one user (recipient) and what seems to be one sender's communication fowling up.

Basically everyone in the organization and people sending from the internet can send email to the particular recipient. I and everyone else (except the one sender) can send email to the recipient with no issues. But when the sender tries to send to the recipient he gets the message below:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

  Subject:  Subject
  Sent: 3/18/2002 1:34 PM

The following recipient's) could not be reached:

'Recipient Name' on 3/18/2002 1:34 PM
The recipient name is not recognized
The MTA-ID of the original message is: c=US;a= ;p=ORGANIZATION;l=EXSERVER-020318183345Z-15368
    MSEXCH:MSExchangeMTA:SITE-1:EXSERVER

The Recipient's mailbox was recreated about a month ago to fix some other issues he was having. Which would be my first thought, but only one sender is getting these issues. I did have issues with the old mailbox getting some of the mail intended to go to the new mailbox even though I adjusted the SMTP and MTA addresses to what should be the new information.

I have also had the sender delete any personal contacts for the recipient that might have been picking up the old mailbox.

For those of you who use VoIP/Unity an added complication occurs when the sender attempts to leave a voicemail for the recipient. Because VoIP/Unity is running through Exchange, even the voicemail's that the sender leaves returns an NDR as above.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Life Insurance Spam with strange addressing

2002-06-18 Thread William Smith
Title: Life Insurance Spam with strange addressing

Has anyone seen a recent crop of Life Insurance spam coming in with strange addressing? Last week we received the 2 emails. Normally I wouldn't be concerned with spam like this, but if I look at the addressing it is coming from a valid address (of course it has to be of two executives...) and then delivering to staff.  The first message reads from [EMAIL PROTECTED], to [EMAIL PROTECTED] but was delivered to staff. The second message reads from [EMAIL PROTECTED], to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and again was delivered to staff. The thing that really makes me wonder is that [EMAIL PROTECTED] no longer works here and her email address is hidden from the address book.

The headers indicate that the messages are coming from our mail server, but obviously we aren't sending our self spam. Is there a way to spoof this? Possibly a worm?

I've found references to the subject lines on Google, but no one mentions the addressing issue, only that it is spam.

These are the subjects:
$250,000 policy for only $8.50/month!
Best Life Insurance, Lowest Cost.

Ok.  I misread one of the lines in the header. The
messages are indeed coming from another source (one hosted by Cogent the other
won't resolve) hitting our fw then exchange.  I can see the idea of
addressing to me from me, but how would this explain that the messages appear to
have gone to staff, unless they did it one by one. Also not my staff
mailing/distro lists are not accessible from the
outside.
Thanks for your input,

Review the actual header of the message (View, Options, Internet Headers) and see where it really originated and if
it even used your system. It is a common practice now to send mail to you from
  you.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: Life Insurance Spam with strange
  addressing

Has anyone seen a recent crop of
Life Insurance spam coming in with strange addressing? Last week we received
the 2 emails. Normally I wouldn't be concerned with spam like this, but if I
look at the addressing it is coming from a valid address (of course it has to
be of two executives...) and then delivering to staff.  The first message
reads from [EMAIL PROTECTED], to [EMAIL PROTECTED] but was delivered to staff. The
second message reads from [EMAIL PROTECTED], to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and again was
delivered to staff. The thing that really makes me wonder is that
[EMAIL PROTECTED] no longer works here and her email address is hidden from the
  address book.
  The headers indicate that the
messages are coming from our mail server, but obviously we aren't sending our
self spam. Is there a way to spoof this? Possibly a
  worm?
  I've found references to the
subject lines on Google, but no one mentions the addressing issue, only that
  it is spam.
  These are the
  subjects: $250,000 policy for only
  $8.50/month! Best Life Insurance, Lowest
  Cost.
  Thanks,

I
suppose it would be easy enough to send one by one or import a batch
to bcc.

  and
why would you think it wasn't sent to everyone
  individually?

Ok.  I misread one of the lines in the header.
The messages are indeed coming from another source (one hosted by Cogent the
other won't resolve) hitting our fw then exchange.  I can see the
idea of addressing to me from me, but how would this explain that the
messages appear to have gone to staff, unless they did it one by one. Also
not my staff mailing/distro lists are not accessible from the
outside.
Thanks for your input,
W

Review the actual header of the message (View, Options, Internet Headers) and see where it really originated
and if it even used your system. It is a common practice now to send mail
  to you from you.
