VIRUS HELL!!!! ...help?
TIA--- I am looking for a bit of help on the antivirus problems I am having today. Today there seems to be heavy virus activity regarding email with an attachment decrypt-password.exe These files are being blocked at the exchange gateway. Only the alert.txt message comes through with the original email. However, there must be some form of embedded VB script in the body of the message. As the message hits the inbox, it somehow enables the Preview pane on the inbox, makes this message always be the first message and runs the script. What I am looking for is some way to disable the preview pane (before opening outlook) so that I can click on the inbox and delete the message. I do not want to add the security patch to outlook, as this is not an option currently. Does anyone know of a reg-hack where I can disable the preview pane for Outlook??? Please let me know any and all ideas. \ BIG THANKS! aci List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

Unfortunately, as soon as you click on the inbox, you get a Dr. Watson error and then Outlook closes! How about de-selecting Preview Pane in the View Menu? -Original Message- From: aci [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, June 14, 2002 2:24 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: VIRUS HELL ...help? I have a user that is getting the following error message when trying to send mail: You have exceeded the storage limit on your mailbox. Delete some mail from your mailbox or contact your system administrator to adjust your storage limit. When sending a message to the same user the message get bounced back and it states: The recipient was unavailable to take delivery of the message I have checked the email server and there is no limit on the size of message going in or out of the mail server for this user. RE: virus scan
Thanks for the great info, but i'm still having a problem with doc files. I did ask you stated and made sure that 'enable macro heuristics' and 'find all macros' were unchecked, I did not have on demand scan to scan '_??' but it was scanning '??_'. Is the later one the one you were speaking of? TIA for any input you would have. List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
virus scan
I was told that this was not a virus and that it was a problem with the detection message where no detection name is given, is an error message that is given by the engine and misinterpreted by the GUI product, not a detection by the DAT files. The files are now in quarantine, so can i send out the file or is it infected with a virus? I am running groupshield exchange. This is the message we received in the event viewer: The file testing.doc is infected with '_'. Detected with scan engine 4.1.60 DAT version 4.1.4181 from user Exchange running groupshield 4.5.572.182 OAS List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
RE: OWA Requirements?
Hi Joe, Thanks for all the great info. couple of ?'s with regards to your comments No you don't need another server if your user base is small. But then again, it's a matter of personal pref, and money! I would rather put OWA its on box, and in-between to firewalls, having my e2k box inside, and behind a pair of firewalls. Point of failure considerations as well... I have no firewall solution currently in place. I will be implementing this at some point in time. what considerations should I look at as to where the final resting place for E2K will be - in a DMZ, behind the firewall, etc. Does the strore go in a different place (with regards to securing it) let's say, behind the firewall? 2. With regards to Active Directory, what is your preference - is it best to bring up AD on another DC first, and then place E2K in another tree, its own tree, ...etc.? Thanks, aci List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
Re: OWA Requirements?
None Taken! It is something that is in process. Unfortunately, we are at the beginning of the process, and need a tremendous amount of help - and as usual with small non-profits - funds are extremely limited. Fortunately, we are on a 10.x.x.x range nated through the gateway router. Do you have any good suggestions for hardware or software firewall solutions? TIA, aci No offense, I have no firewall solution currently in place. Help creating New WIN2k + Exchange2k LAB
I am here trying to bring up a completely new Win2K + Exchange2K Lab environment. I know that there are issues that are poorly addressed by Microsoft regarding the minimun network requirements. Specifically, I need to know about bringing up a new Active Directory domain controller, and how it relates to DNS, WINS, DHCP, etc. I have tried this three times already and because I only have one server, and no local DNS server - I find myself down a long, dark hallway that I can't back out of. Can anyone point me to a complete resource that speaks to this issue. Also, if there is a good book that I can go out a purchase (tonight) please let me know what you have found that works. I can tell that THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT!!! TIA, aci List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
Difference Between Exch2K Enterprise and Standard
Do you happen to know what the differences are between Exchange2K and Exchange2K corporate is?? What will I be missing out on (connectors, features, etc. or is it just a limitation on the number of mailboxes, or the size of the exchange mailstore can be. Exch2k install Recommendations.
I had heard that there are some recommendations to putting the mailstore on a separate server, or a separate hard drive, or a separate partition, or not the system partition, or something along those lines. Anything you heard regarding any of that would be most helpful too! TIA, aci List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
