spam listing

2008-06-16 Thread tgonzalez
So, I arrive this morning, and I see all these emails stating we are on
a RBL list, I scan the server and run manual scans on all systems and
cannot find any type of Trojan or bot resing on the network.

Our environment is os win 2k3 sp1, exchange 2k3 sp2 and all ws's have
office 2007, with SAV 10.2 running on the clients and at the server
levels and the email server has Ninja.

I'm not quite sure as to what occurred, except maybe a mass email? And
some server was pushed a little hard and stated we are a spam site.

Is there any other items or places I can look to determine what
occurred?

TIA,

RE: spam listing

2008-06-17 Thread tgonzalez
List, I apologize for not responding yesterday. We happened to be placed
on CBL / DNSRBL and one other site that utilized CBL. So after extensive
researching, I found the malicious user, isolated and removed that user
from the network. Scanned and requested removal and by 1230 central
time, we (Girl Scouts) where back in operation.

So thank you all for your comments and suggestions. Yesterday morning
was just not a good one.

Cheers,

Thomas

Hi Michael,

I appreciate the follow-up. Here is another general question. We are
looking at hosting a stand-alone instance of Exchange 2007 sp1. There
would
be 2 machines potentially, both would be DC's and hosting Exchange 2007
sp1
together. Can you see having a separate 'domain' that hosts exchange on
DC's that are using Exchange CCR together? I didn't find much in the
doc's
that said don't, but wanted to confirm.

Thanks,

Exchange doesn't really allocate addresses to a particular server.
Addresses
are on an organization basis. But you can control that via your
address/recipient policies and how you allocate your mailboxes.

So...no, that wouldn't cause any Exchange issues.

I need to create a generic mailbox, that multiple people will be
accessing. At first, I created a mail-enabled security group, and added
the people that needed it to the group. Now, I find that's not what
they wanted. They want an actual, separate mailbox, that these people
will access, in addition to their own. I need to verify that my
thinking is correct here:

1) In order to do this, I have to create a new user within ADUC,
with a mailbox. (Named Help, for example)

2) I then have to give the people that will be accessing this
mailbox full rights to the mailbox.

3) I then need to go to their computers, and setup their Outlook to
open this Help mailbox in addition to theirs.

Is this correct? Is there a better way of doing this?

Thanks,

Joe Heaton

SRS not found

2008-09-29 Thread tgonzalez
So, a while back ago, I mentioned about setting up a Back End server and I had
ran into problems about the SRS requiring a password but it would not allow me
to place a user / domain (attributes greyed out).

Well, I started reviewing the domain and there is no relevance of the ADC being
placed on any server. I even double / triple checked and found no trace. So I
looked at the services on the two servers and found the SRS service running, I
set it to manual and stopped it. And I also went into the System Manager /
Tools and found no SRS.

Now I'm very puzzled as to why the setup log keeps telling me this:

RE: OT: shared calendars

2008-10-01 Thread tgonzalez
Here's the issue, our receptionist opens up shared calendars that staff
allowed and apparently she is stating there is a limitation of the
amount of calendars she can have within her client. I have yet to really
investigate, since I (like most of you) where all the hats of a one
person IT Dept.

I just wanted to inquire before I start a thorough investigation on the
client end.

I've had to do that although PSS will tell you it
doesn't work. I might add to that make sure and reformat the drive with
the machine it's plugged into before doing anything. Expect it to be
very slow, You may even think it's failed it's so slow, even Esata
sucks.

I've found it better to just have a big sata drive and
controller card for temp space. And backup, backup ,backup!

I'm not 100% on this but what about copying the
/mbdata folder to the ext drive, run eseutil on it there. Just make
sure you're all backed up!

So my journal / archive server is ran out of
space...ok no problem. Dismount store, shutdown all services, open a
command window type in the command and tell it to create the temp on a
drive that has plenty of space:

I run the command...and I receive this error
below:

Any ideas?

TIA.

2008-11-14 Thread tgonzalez
So I was up till 11pm (central) and finally got the store back online.
Thanks for everyone's assistance on this issue. I just brain farted and
had other items and just lost my mind on this issue.

Now I will be putting up the new server over the weekend and
decommissioning this old one.

Again, Thanks to all.
