RE: BES upgrade to 5.0
I have my phone set for 30 days...but then I try not to keep any email in my inbox. Unfortunately the BES admin before me told the execs they could keep all of their email. Yeah, it's a nightmare for me. Next policy upgrade I'm going to push the idea of 30 days (2 weeks would never fly). We have different management now...they may back me. Keep in mind that if they have their Blackberry's configured to keep all email the device may run low on memory. This is especially critical on the Pearl, which tends to eat up what little memory it has with the OS. Also, if your execs are like mine they like to play, and are always loading software on to their phones. If the device is low on memory, the device may start deleting new emails and appointment requests. What looks like an Exchange/BES issue is actually a device issue. The fix is to set an IT policy on BES that will only allow users to keep 6 months or 3 months of email on their phone and will keep users from loading programs...IF your allowed to do that to your execs. Re: BES upgrade to 5.0
I just finished my research into this today and started the process. Here's my notes. I'm upgrade to 5.0 from 4.x onto new hardware. No external SQL. 1. Upgrade to newest SP on production box 2. Get temp SRP and Migration Kit from BES Customer Support 3. Install fresh server on new hardware, install BES 5.0 using key from #2 4. Use the 'Enterprise Transporter' from the kit to move over users(a few at a time). 5. After everything is good, shut down old server(or uninstall bes software). 6. Original SRP will go bad within 90 days. Jon . ~ Ninja Email Security with Cloudmark Spam Engine Gets Image Spam ~ ~ http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Ninja~
