30 users? I'm guessing he doesn't have 3 replicated databases with 1 being
lagged. (or whatever the minimum requirements were to eliminate backups).

You'll end up spending a tad over $600 to get this going. And by tad, I
mean a ton.

2011-03-03 Thread Reimer, Mark
Can't you just use Windows 2008 server backup software? It will only do
the whole database/store, but the price is right. Exchange has as plugin
built in for this.

Windows 2008 Server backup is a feature you need to install, but it's
there.

Approximately eight years ago, I used what is now Barracuda's
Yosemite Server Backup product to successfully backup Exchange
servers. It worked pretty well, and was much cheaper than Backup
Exec. It's been so long that I cannot vouch for the current quality,
but today's price would appear to be $400 - $700, depending on which
flavor you can get away with.

http://www.barracudaware.com/products/server-backup/products

The variant I was using back then was actually a rebranded product
called NovaNet, from NovaStor. I am pretty sure their current
offerings are a different codebase now, but their prices are even
cheaper.

Obviously, you will want to test either option heavily before depending on it.
