RE: Exchange SP4

2002-07-26 Thread Snook, Kevin S (ITD)

No, I think that's the whole point - it's not standard. You should only
apply hotfixes if you experience a particular problem.

Standard disclaimer. No worse than Microsoft's EULA which
makes no guarantees either, IIRC.

Yeah, hotfixes always have the old MS have only tested this
 hotfix for the
problem it cures. Only apply if you are experiencing this
 specific problem.
Reading between the lines this means We haven't done much
 testing - we've
checked the procedure/module which is at fault and it appears
 to fix the
problem but we have no idea of the sh*t this fix might cause
 in other parts
 of the code.

I've had no problems without them. Most shops I've been involved with
use email around the clock. Installing hotfixes just because
 they exist
just interrupts people more important to the company than I - the ones
 that bring in revenue.

If it is a security fix or an issue I am experiencing, that is
 different.

The trouble with that philosophy is that things get overlooked when
changes are made. Configure a new Internet Mail Connector under your
regime and you're asking for trouble unless you have a photographic
memory (which I certainly don't). And, for the record, I've had no
ptoblems whatsoever with the Post-SP4 fixes.

Service packs are regression tested (but MS cannot duplicate every
environment, and a few of 'em have just plain sucked). Hot fixes should
never ever ever be applied without a really really good reason.

And we all test all patches in our labs, right?

Stop all Exchange services manually (Shut down SA service.
  This will kill

Stop IIS admin service (this will also shut down any other

  Stop any AV software.

RE: Exchange SP4

2002-07-25 Thread Randal, Phil

The trouble with that philosophy is that things get overlooked
when changes are made. Configure a new Internet Mail Connector
under your regime and you're asking for trouble unless you have
a photographic memory (which I certainly don't). And, for the
record, I've had no ptoblems whatsoever with the Post-SP4 fixes.

RE: Outlook 2k Exchange sp4

2002-03-07 Thread Miller Bonnie L.

Can the user log on to Outlook with another system? If so, have you tried detect and
repair from the Outlook Help menu to repair the installation on that machine? We use
2K, so not sure if it's there in 2002. If not, you might also be able to choose
add/remove programs and repair/reinstall from there.

One of my users' win2k system crashed. He had to fix his system using repair
disk. Everything works but his outlook 2002 is not working. It gives him
error like system cannot log you in. It was working just fine before. I
don't see any error log in the server. I tried to re-create his profile but
nothing happen.
I also made sure rpc locater startup is set to manual. That did not made any
different.
Please help.

Still got the problem with Exchange Sp4 and post

2001-09-04 Thread Nicole Wajer
Title: Still got the problem with Exchange Sp4 and post

Hello all,

Still remember me?

I installed a new imc with sp4 and a post sp4 for MTA problems I had. Thought this would fix my IMC problem. But no. On monday some hot shots called me as mail that was send over the weekend still hadn't arrived. So I had a look at the new server. It was having the same symptoms like the old one.

Mail get's accepted by the imc but keeps sitting in the 'Inbound waiting for Conversion'. It never comes out only after a reboot. (Stopping the service and starting will also not work).

Groetjes,

Nicole
