Title: RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's I too am responsible for a handful of Macs in an NT world... Things worked great with Exchange and the macs for years. One day, nada. I swear I changed NOTHING. And I'm the only one who would have. I added the host entries. No help. Worked with MS PSS. Nothing. The refunded the calls even. For sg, I built another test server on a PC. Guess what. Worked FINE!!! I've checked, and rechecked everything. There is NO difference between these boxes. They connect to one, but not the other. I just learned to live with it... -Original Message-From: Dawn R. RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's
Title: RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's Try.. If a local Mac hosts file is used, a CNAME and A record must be entered. "Hosts" file is located in the "System folder" by default (and should be located in the System sub-directory to use with MacTCP). Mac hosts file format: Exchange server name CNAME IP domain name IP domain name A corresponding IP address For Example: EXCH1 CNAME exch1.business.com. exch1.business.com. A 157.54.16.157 NOTE : If the Exchange Server name resolves to a name other than the name in the hosts file, change the Exchange Server name in the hosts file to match the resolved name. If the user is not sure about the Internet Protocol (IP) domain name, they can run IPConfig at a command prompt on the server and find the domain suffix. The IP domain name should consist of the server name with the domain suffix (as in the example above). All domain names should end with a period (or dot). Using the earlier example, create hosts files. Navigate to Apple (menu), Control Panels , and then TCP/IP Navigate to Edit (menu), and then User Mode . Select Advanced , and click OK . Click Select Hosts File ; highlight the hosts file already created, and then click Open . Close the TCP/IP Control Panel, and then click Save when prompted. Restart the computer. RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's
We have 130 MACs (and 280 PCs) running against our Exchange Server - and dialing in and connecting with no problem. Brent was right - AppleTalk and Services for Mac need to be running. Even though they both talk TCP/IP, Apples need to initially talk AppleTalk to make the first identity connection, and then they transfer info TCP/IP. Dialing in using a Shiva - Works OK. Connecting over Internet using NT4 and WIN2K RAS servers VPN - Apples need to use a tunnelbuilder client, and have full connectivity. RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's
I'll check, but I do believe the AppleTalk service is running. -Original Message- From: Dennis Atherton [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 12:16 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's We have 130 MACs (and 280 PCs) running against our Exchange Server - and dialing in and connecting with no problem. I setup 5 macs on my network to use the server and it was working fine for a day and a half, but now when they go to open outlook 8.2 on their Mac, it asks for the login info, but then errors out saying they have network issues and to talk to your administrator. We do a lot of graphics work here and there are places that even a diehard PC person like me has to admit that Mac shines in the graphics dept. The consultant that came and tried the host file was working on the Mac side.. the Mac machines have a host file that must be similar to the LMHosts file on PC. -Original Message-From: Scot Parsons [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 12:17 PMTo: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's Shows how much I know about them stinkin' macs -Original Message-From: Brent Hudson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 12:19 PMTo: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's LMhosts = Wins no good on a MAC -Original Message-From: Scot Parsons [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: 08 January 2002 07:14To: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: RE: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's Have you tried a lmhosts file? -Original Message-From: Dawn R.
