I think I have beat you all. Exchange 5.5 Standard, on NT4.0 SP6A 198 MB Memory 2 GB mirrored system Partition 6GB raid for IS 2GB drive for the Logs 1 Pentium Pro 100Mhz CPU 184 users all using PSTs When I got here the box was PDC, DHCP, Primary Wins, a RAS server with 8 VPN Ports on it, ran Mail Essentials, and had several print queues on it! CPU was about 30% to 60%, but memory got to be a real issue. After several weeks of constant use it would be using 220MB, and things would really slow down. I am replacing this box one service at a time as we speak. It is now only the RAS server, and will go away entirely with the installation of Windows 2000. At MEC 99, I went to the panel discussion... I think the guy from Lucent was sitting on well over 100k seats as well. Hehehehe I really would hate to have to run that thing. That was a rather humorous conference... they had a few hundred computers set up downstairs for people to check their e-mail, access the internet, and most importantly to show of Exchange 2k and all it's new toys. It also had this communist block display of server hardware running the back-end... the biggest pieces Dell, Compaq, EMC, and IBM had. On the last day I'm going down to check my mail and play around... only to find out... that their Exchange server went down. No clustering... no backups... HAHAHAHAHAAHHA. On that last note, yes we're having 'issues' with those PERC things too. Greatest headache is the remote machines not coming back up after a reboot. They sit in the 'bios not installed' state. Give them another hard reboot and it's fine. RE: Poll time [ dell raid sub-discussion ]
Coincidentally all of our problems have been with RAID 5 array's as well... where the mirrored sets on the same card didnt have a problem... -Original Message- From: Purviance, Chad [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 2:01 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Poll time Multiple as I am a consultant, but as for Dell. We have had 3 SavA server down issues with Dell Raid controllers (Adaptec integrated on MB) in the last few weeks. Most of them only with the RAID5 sets as the Mirrored sets on the same channels were fine. One didn't mount the RAID5 container because TCP/IP didn't come up (bad 3com switch) and the others lost the data on the set from corruption. Mostly with the 6450, 2550, and 2500.
