you know what annoys me is that the default for public folders is not
invisible. any Tom Dick and Harry can make public folders which is good but
they should be invisible by default so there is not 17 zillion in accessable
public folders. especially when they get mirrored on other sites but not
actually replicated. crappy design.

Hello All,

I did a little research, but didn't find anything...I remember reading that
there is a process that removes permission's to pub folders periodically
based on account status (ie deleted, removed). Was I dreaming?? (hopefully
not about exchange). What I have are a bunch of left over admin names listed
in the permission's for pub folders. Not a big deal, just annoying...

Exch 5.5 SP3/NT4 SP6

Thanks!!
Pat

RE: cleanup of Pub folder permission's??

2001-08-30 Thread Drewski

That's just a furthering of Microsoft's permissions philosophy, which is
open, with the ability to shut.

Remember, Public Folders are sorta supposed to be administered by users,
since Outlook is really the primary PF management tool (PFADMIN is
different, look for an article on it coming to an issue of Exchange-Outlook
Administrator Magazine near you!). If they had to think about who to allow
to see it, rather than who to disallow, their brains would explode.

This will be of fine service for you, you bag of the scum. I am sure you
will not mind that I remove your toenails and leave them out on the dessert
floor for ants to eat.

2001-08-30 Thread Patrick Smallwood

Thanks!! Didnt even see my post (must check settings)...I realize that
these should be managed by users/owners. Actually the PUBLIC folder
shouldnt be public. It contains VERY sensitive info and only 3 people want
access (had to change default/anonymous client perm to none). Invisible
wouldnt get me much here

I did find the article, I must learn to search a little deeper before
firing off an email. But not sure if it is really needed.
Thanks!!
Pat

When we remove a user from NT, is there anyway to clean
  up the
permissions on the public folder? We end up with an entry
  that appears
  something like
  this: /O=RUR/OU=CITY/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=USERNAME. We have a
  single
server, single site, running Exchange 5.5, SP4 on WinNT
  4.0, SP5. I
thought I might need to use the Update Now button on
  the Directory
Service but that button is greyed out. Can anyone help?
  Thanks in
  advance.
