Announcing the Re-release of Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 Update Rollup 3 (V2)
Rerelease of Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 Update Rollup 3 (V2) On March 14th we posted an announcementhttp://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/03/14/exchange-2010-sp1-rollup-3-and-blackberrys-sending-duplicate-messages.aspxto the EHLO blog about removing Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 due to an issue related to Blackberry devices. The Exchange Servicing team has fixed the reported issue with E2010 SP1 RU3 and is making available a new version of RU3 for our customers, version 14.01.289.007, (KB2529939 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2529939). We strongly advise all customers install this newly released version of Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1 Update Rollup 3http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=413b8979-76b8-4be4-a18b-015d025eb368displaylang=enand to discard any prior version of RU3 (KB2492690) which you may have. *RU3 Installation Guidance: * - *Customers with RU3 already installed within your Exchange environment* It is not necessary for you to uninstall the existing RU3 within your environment. The new RU3 package can be installed over the top of the existing package installed on your servers. - *Customers with previous SP3 RU’s installed within your Exchange environment* You can simply install the new version of the RU3 package. *General RU Installation Guidance* - *Note for deployments that leverage Forefront Security for Exchange:*For those of you running Forefront Security for Exchange perform these important steps from the command line in the Forefront directory before and after this rollup's installation. Without these steps, Exchange services for Information Store and Transport will not start back up. You will need to disable Forefront via fscutility /disable before installing the patch and then re-enable after the patch by running fscutility /enable to start it up again post installation. We deeply regret the impact that these issues have had on you, our customers, and as always, we continue to identify ways to better serve your needs through our regular servicing releases. RE: New blog post: Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 and Required Hotfixes
The first time I did the install, I had a half-dozen other things going on (including the patch downloads and accumulation) and it took me about 2 hours. Now, depending on the server, it's under an hour (I note that CAS seems to take longer than anything else). I'm guessing the average admin, who only has one or two servers, and isn't really comfortable with the process - it's going to take him or her 4 - 6 hours. Regards, Michael B. The Service Pack, or Exchange 2010? We've been going slow, setting Exch 2010 up in our lab, including setting up a DMZ, Edge Transport, TMG, etc. We've been working on it for about a week now. I obviously don't expect the production install to take this long, but there are tons of little nuances that you need to make sure you have correct during the install/config. Re: New blog post: Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 and Required Hotfixes
Sorry, answered my own question by looking at your blog a second time: There is some question about why these fixes aren't available on WSUS or Microsoft Update; and the answer is simple: these are not security related fixes, *they are not Exchange fixes*, and they will not affect every single Microsoft server installation. However, they *are* known to affect Exchange and thus need to be installed on Exchange servers. In E2k that only tells you the version of the Microsoft Management Console. To see the version and service pack for E2k, you drill down in ESM to the server and right-click it and choose properties.
