Announcing the Re-release of Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 Update Rollup 3 (V2)

2011-04-06 Thread Steve Ens
Rerelease of Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 Update Rollup 3 (V2)

On March 14th we posted an
announcementhttp://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/03/14/exchange-2010-sp1-rollup-3-and-blackberrys-sending-duplicate-messages.aspxto
the EHLO blog about removing Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2010
SP1
due to an issue related to Blackberry devices.

The Exchange Servicing team has fixed the reported issue with E2010 SP1 RU3
and is making available a new version of RU3 for our customers, version
14.01.289.007, (KB2529939 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2529939). We
strongly advise all customers install this newly released version of Microsoft
Exchange Server 2010 SP1 Update Rollup
3http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=413b8979-76b8-4be4-a18b-015d025eb368displaylang=enand
to discard any prior version of RU3 (KB2492690) which you may have.

*RU3 Installation Guidance: *

   - *Customers with RU3 already installed within your Exchange environment*

It is not necessary for you to uninstall the existing RU3 within your
environment. The new RU3 package can be installed over the top of the
existing package installed on your servers.

   - *Customers with previous SP3 RU’s installed within your Exchange
   environment*

You can simply install the new version of the RU3 package.

*General RU Installation Guidance*

   - *Note for deployments that leverage Forefront Security for
Exchange:*For those of you running Forefront Security for Exchange
perform these
important steps from the command line in the Forefront directory before and
after this rollup's installation. Without these steps, Exchange services for
Information Store and Transport will not start back up. You will need to
disable Forefront via fscutility /disable before installing the patch and
then re-enable after the patch by running fscutility /enable to start it
   up again post installation.

We deeply regret the impact that these issues have had on you, our
customers, and as always, we continue to identify ways to better serve your
needs through our regular servicing releases.

Sothis is a regression failure (i.e., bug) for the GUI install.

The next update of the prereq XML used by the GUI install will fix it.

Thanks for bringing it up.

Michael,

In this blog post, you state:

You cannot install Exchange 2010 SP1 without first installing a handful of
hotfixes. This is a hard-block in the Exchange setup program, which means that
if the hotfixes are not detected, the setup program will abort.

This is not true - let me tell you why I think so. I just installed a 2010 SP1
server with the HT role. During setup (GUI based) I selected the option to
download the necessary OS updates and features, and the installation went
without a hitch.

Afterwards, I manually ran the installer for each of the five hotfixes and only
one of them claimed to already be installed.

So it seems that although they are required for a supported installation of
Exchange, Exchange will still install without them.

Regards

Richard

Regards

Richard

No problem at all. I only found this out because I was testing that new
install required features button in SP1, hoping that it might download and
install these pre-reqs for me. I was surprised as any that it worked, if I'm

I've got another server to install, I'll try it from the CLI this time and

2010-08-31 Thread Michael B. Smith
The first time I did the install, I had a half-dozen other things going on
(including the patch downloads and accumulation) and it took me about 2 hours.

Now, depending on the server, it's under an hour (I note that CAS seems to take
longer than anything else).

I'm guessing the average admin, who only has one or two servers, and isn't
really comfortable with the process - it's going to take him or her 4 - 6 hours.

The Service Pack, or Exchange 2010? We've been going slow, setting Exch 2010
up in our lab, including setting up a DMZ, Edge Transport, TMG, etc. We've
been working on it for about a week now. I obviously don't expect the
production install to take this long, but there are tons of little nuances that
you need to make sure you have correct during the install/config.

Re: New blog post: Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 and Required Hotfixes

2010-08-30 Thread Rob Bonfiglio
Sorry, answered my own question by looking at your blog a second time:

There is some question about why these fixes aren't available on WSUS or
Microsoft Update; and the answer is simple: these are not security related
fixes, *they are not Exchange fixes*, and they will not affect every single
Microsoft server installation. However, they *are* known to affect Exchange
and thus need to be installed on Exchange servers.

This doesn't effect us (yet) since we're on Exchange 2007, but I'm curious
as to why they weren't just rolled into the service pack if they are going
 to be required anyway.

Nope, that has been surprisingly absent. I guess it wasn't so long after
UR9 so the list of fixes in SP2 that weren't in UR9 may be small anyway.

Just curious, has anyone seen a KB article for the list of bug fixes in SP2?
I'm assuming it's more than just RU1-RU9 inc. and the new features for auditing
etc.

In E2k that only tells you the version of the Microsoft Management
Console.

To see the version and service pack for E2k, you drill down in ESM to
the server and right-click it and choose properties. The version and
service pack are right there on the first tab. Hotfixes will be found
in the add/remove programs control panel applet.

How can one find out if a service pack has been installed? I
was almost asleep during the conversion, and can't remember
if I did it or not.I doesn't show up in add/remove
programs.but does exchange service packs show up there?
 I'm running E2K.

Oh great. Thanks. Now we're all wondering *which* service pack you've
got installed. Now I'm gonna have to cancel my luncheon plans to await
the news.

RE: service pack install level

2002-02-21 Thread Neil Hobson

How true. Perhaps the reason the service pack isn't being displayed is
because it's RTM? :-)

The other option is to be flash and produce some simple VBScript code
like:

set objServer = CreateObject(CDOEXM.ExchangeServer)
objServer.DataSource.Open your server name here in quotes
wscript.echo objServer.ExchangeVersion

I think the General Tab of the Server Properties page in Exchange System
Manager will advise Build and Service Pack number.

Is there a chart that shows the service pack level in exchange 2000? In
the MMC, going to the server in question and looking at the version
level displayed there doesn't tell either of my brain cells what service
pack the exchange is at.

Did I miss something?

Don't have Exchange box in front of me ...
But in 5.5, you could look at the servers in Exchange Admin and it would
tell you the version # and SP
