Maybe you should just comment out the lines containing Type1 fonts. It
worked for Netscape, which also had unreadable fonts.

I have also had problems with Reiserfs, i had random missing files as
you said below, and also kept getting messages in the console re 'seek
error on hda' or something similar.
I quickly formatted and went back to ext2, and i havnt seen those
 horrible messages again (phew).

Well, i'm back to ext2 also. An added advantage:
I can mount my linux partitions from Windoze 95. Linux still does not
print graphics very well, and audio editing is a nightmare ! So I still
have to revert to W95 for that.

Re: [expert] FONTS im getting tired of this

2001-07-07 Thread Kernell32

OK i found a way to fix it actually i uninstalled abisuite but it might be
enough to comment out the line leading to abiword fonts from
/etc/X11/fs/config
# /usr/share/abisuite/AbiSuite/fonts,
just put a # in front of it i dont know if abisuite will work without those
fonts but its worth a try, actually abiword should use different fonts too if
you just comment this line.
If abiword doesnt work anymore after that, uninstall it and use openoffice
instead its much more professional and i think it handles MSWord files nicer
(not perfect though but its still beta and getting better all the time )
Cheers

I tried one by one, and the problem was only at
/usr/share/fonts/default/Type1. Comment or delete the line
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 has no efect (except make it unavailable).
BTW, I first deleted the line /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1 and it works,
but it's unnecesary. Adding :unscaled does the trick and you still have those
Type1 fonts available.

[expert] damn kernel build nonsense

2001-07-07 Thread Praedor Tempus

I have lilo. It works. It resides in /sbin just like it should. I
downloaded and built kernel-2.4.5 from cooker. It built just fine but then
craps out when it comes time to install it (via make install) giving me:

Cannot find a boot loader, you may have to see why detectloader has
problems or specify via the command line.
+ exit
make[1]: *** [install] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.5/arch/i386/boot'
make: *** [install] Error 2

Cannot find a bootloader?! @#%$! It's where it ALWAYS is and it works just
fine. I can run lilo and get it to properly install/update lilo in the MBR.

I ran into this same damn thing trying to build kernel-2.4.6, which prompted
me to try the mandrake src.rpm for 2.4.6 (I built the 2.4.6 tarball) because
I figured the mandrake kernel source would be setup to build properly on a
mandrake system like mine. Suddenly, kernel builds are failing on me because
it can't find /sbin/lilo.

What is this and how do I make it go away?

[expert] Why does kdeinit proccess continue to run after I logout of KDE?

2001-07-07 Thread Mark Chou

I generally use test-based console as default login. Sometimes I start KDE
(via startx command). After I log out of KDE, ps aux shows (edited):

fatty 1276 0.0 6.1 19936 7804 ? S 18:14 0:00 kdeinit: dcopserv
fatty 1280 0.0 6.5 19896 8304 ? S 18:14 0:00 kdeinit: kded

After I return overnight (without re-using KDE) these processes do not clean
up after themselves.

My symptoms are exactly those described at
http://bugs.kde.org/db/23/23920.html _except_ I only use KDE locally. Is
this behavior correct? If not, what`s the best way to solve this problem
short of a recompile?

What`s worse is these additional instances of kdeinit remain as more users
log in and exit of KDE.

I`m using kdelib-2.1.2-4mdk (which contains kdeinit), LM8.

Thanks,
Mark

[expert] Show status of adsl connect

Got adsl yesterday and managed the setup. though not using draknet. I
tried draknet first but it did not work. Then I ran adsl-setup and added
a defaultroute in adsl-start. Now it works like a charm.
Problem is, 11 (my provider) cuts the link after 15 minutes
of inactivity and after 14 hours of continous running.

1. I put up a cronjob which sends 1 ping tom my own domain every 14
minutes.

2. It's no prob for me to restart every 24 hours. It would be nice, if
this happened automagically but

3. My actual Q: Is there a little icon or sign to put on the KDE panel
which shows the status of the connection? Today I saw Linux on a PPC and
there was this small connection symbol which got unconnected when the
internet connection broke. Is there such a thing?

About every applet might be able, as long as you specify ppp0 as your
device, cause that's what's used for the connection
