When you print it of course it won't fit on the page. Your right hand margin is probably also slightly wider than expected (since A4 is slightly narrower than US letter). [expert] Printing problem - where to start?
I'm trying print a postscript file (output by Vim). When I preview in gv everthing looks good, but when I print the last 3 lines for each page end up on a page by themselves. So a 3 page file ends up 6 pages. 3 good pages and 3 pages with only 3 lines on them?? I tried printing the straight text file from Kate, but it cuts lines off (doesn't wrap them properly). Can anyone give me a hand? TIA, Bill. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

I have a need at my college to use a machine to bridge two networks. It's my intention to configure two n/w cards, one for the first n/w and one for the second. The first n/w contains a firewal, the second doesn't. Are there any factors I should be looking out for? regards Daryl -- 'Twas the night before crisis, and all through the house, Not a program was working not even a browse. I'm not sure what mechanism KDE uses to set the background image. But if you want to convert a .jpg to .pm, just use *convert* (provided you have ImageMagic installed). The syntax is command - from file - to file So to convert from .jpg to .pm convert afile.jpg afile.pm For more specific information, "man convert" If man convert comes up empty, check to be sure you have ImageMagic installed. Re: [expert] RPM rebuild question
There was a change on the newer versions of RPM. The "target" flag is now: "-target i386" (they dropped the "=". "man rpm" bears this out: --target PLATFORM When building the package, interpret PLATFORM as arch-vendor-os and set the macros %_target, %_target_arch, and %_target_os accord ingly. I bought the powerpack , and of the 7 cd's, two are listed as comercial applications,, (haven't had time to look yet.) so am I to assume that the job lot of them are just demo's?? I figured for the price that mandrake probably had license deals with the vendors that allows them to distribute them at low cost,,, (like $5+ shareware stuff you see all over the internet..) didn't know that it was all demo's,,, that should have been pointed out, in the very least its a possible court case for mandrake if someone chooses to hold them to the software that the packs are said to contain, but don't really. If microsoft said: Office XP included with winXP, and then just included word and excel viewer... people would crucify them.. false advertising is illegal.. I love mandrake, but if they become another company trying microsoft tactics in order to keep the price up for their shareholders, then I will drop them like a hot rock and suggest the same with all the other people I have suggested it to or set it up for... Don't waste your time with Netscape 6.anything, just use the latest Mozilla -- at this time, 0.9.6 or 0.9.5. Netscape is based on Mozilla anyway, and is always a couple of point releases behind, plus it has a bunch of extra AOL junk added that you probably don't need anyway. If you can't use Mozilla, try Galeon. It uses the Mozilla rendering engine (Gecko), and so requires Mozilla to be installed, but it has a lighter interface, and uses much less memory -- it also renders pages faster than Mozilla. It is my browser of choice. If Galeon won't work, try Opera. The 5.05 Technology Preview for Linux works great. I think Mozilla/Galeon renders fonts better, but otherwise Opera is just as good. It is free but has a somewhat annoying banner ad, which you can get rid of by purchasing Opera. You already know about Konqueror. I don't really like it, but others swear by it, so I suppose it is just a matter of preference. The notebook can't connect to the internet. > The cable was the last resort but it's ok, I tested it at a friend's > machine who has a similar setup. > > What is wrong here? > > wobo Couple of questions for you: 1. Can you ping your own interfaces? That is, from your desktop can you ping each of the cards' IP addresses? Can you ping 127.0.0.1? Can you also ping your laptop's card from itself (the real IP and 127.0.0.1)? If you can't do that, then you obviously won't be going anywhere outside... 2. Do you have a firewall running on either of the PCs? Sometimes firewalls will block ICMP (ping) packets, and so your pings are unable to work. Try turning off your firewall -- in MDK 8.1, assuming you are using the built-in firewall, run (as root) '/etc/init.d/iptables stop' but without the quotes. This is for a 2.4 kernel. If you are using the 2.2 kernel, try '/etc/init.d/ipchains stop'. If you are not using the built-in firewall, then just try (as root) 'iptables -F' or 'ipchains -F' -- these will flush the firewall rules and allow anything. Just restart your firewall to bring the rules back. 3. Do you have internet connection sharing enabled in the desktop PC? If not, it won't be able to forward packets from your laptop out to the internet. 4. Can your desktop reach the internet? You seem to imply that you can, but I am not sure. 5. Am I understanding that your desktop's external interface (eth1) has two IP addresses? Can you give more information about your ADSL setup? I am only familiar with the kind that uses a router or bridge to connect, so that the router/bridge gets a phone wire from the wall, and has an ethernet wire going out to eihter a hub or a single PC with a standard NIC. This device, if a router, usually runs a dhcp server and provides all connection information needed for the PCs. If it's a bridge, then the PCs either need to be running dhcp and get their info from the ISP, or they need to have static IP addresses (and other network stuff, like DNS and default gateway) assigned. I will try to give more help when I see your answers. Dave -- You may worry about your hair-do today, but tomorrow much peanut butter will be sold. msg44900/pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature

RE: [expert] Family Internet access
The easiest way to configure ppp to work (and thereby get Diald to also work) is to enable Linuxconf's PPP module and configure things from there. Merely fill everything out in the gui. Once you have everything enter properly "ifup ppp0" should work. KPPP bypasses this altogether creating a completely different (and sometimes conflicting) way of getting the connection established. For awhile Mandrake was moving towards integrating Linuxconf as they overall control center. 8.0 went in this direction very strongly. In 8.1 a complete reversal seems to have occurred. Ooops I just got on the soapbox again... -JMS |-Original Message- |From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] |[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Aristotle |Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2001 5:53 AM |To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] |Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] |Subject: Re: [expert] Family Internet access | | |Unfourtunately I don't think that will allow me to use command line |non-user specific dial up connection control. Unfourtunately I don't think that will allow me to use command line non-user specific dial up connection control. I will have a go though and see what happens. the problem is that /sbin/ifup ppp0 does not work - even under root. The modem light flashes briefly and then the command stalls. [expert] ext3 fsck problem with latest kernel
I have 2 hard drives. hda2 is /boot and hdb2 is / both of these run ext3 which were built from former ext2 partitions. When I first did the conversion I had to mkinitrd before I could get / to use ext3. It had worked fine until the latest upgrade to kernel 2.4.8-34.1mdk. Now it kicks out trying to do an fsck because hdb2 is already mounted. Earlier in the boot process it loaded the ext3 module and checked the journal for hdb2, then shortly after loading devfs, it again tries to fsck hdb2 and halts the process with the error message stating that hdb2 is already mounted. I have tried a new mkinitrd with the latest kernel but I still get this message. Any ideas or is this a known bug? I have researched the lists and could not find this mentioned yet. = SI Reasoning [EMAIL PROTECTED] "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
