Re: [expert] Modem Problem

2000-03-07 Thread Istvan B.

I just thought I mention this:
Actually, it doesn't have to be a WinModem (although this one probably is) to
have this problem.
I had (just sold it today) a Diamond SupraExpress PCI modem, which is not a
winmodem, yet I had the same problems
as I did with winmodems. It is heavily dependant on full plug'n'play support
because of the way it communicates through the PCI
port. On the RedHat hardware compatibility list it is listed as non-compatible.
But I have found a file VERY hidden on the modem's
driver disk which had a few lines on how to use it under Linus. This involved
the use of the DOS driver (which I coud not fin anywhere) and LOADLIN and a few
changes in autoexec.bat. So, in short, I would have had to 'warm boot' Linux.

I found it. It is basically the same as ttmkfdir.
I did have tt fonts when Installed Mandrake (the ones that come with the
system) I just wanted to add more. It is so much better when using text
in Gimp, as I have over 300 fonts that I can use now! :-) It helps with
web design.

Re: [expert] Adding ttf fonts

2000-03-01 Thread Istvan B.

I don't seem to have this. What do you mean by "use the ttf-package"
on the CD? You mean the font collection? What does mkttfdir do
exactly? Does it only make the fonts.dir?
But, I fixed it now. I even wrote a kind of HOW-TO, just in case
anyone has the same complications as I did.
I have already done what everyone else suggested before I wrote here,
but after I ran "chkfontpath --add /usr/share/fonts/truetype" it
seemed to have changed the default font dir as well, because after
that X would not start, it complained about not being able to find the
default font. Anyway, I've written down everything I did, and I think
I will put it on my website. Just in case nothing else works.
Thanks for all the help!
