Re: [expert] PDF writer
Hi, I'm using the pdf printer in Samba. Mandrake has a pdf printer setup already in the Samba. It works great for any windows users on our network. They just select the pdf printer and print and the pdf file is put in their home folder. Re: [expert] drakbackup
I'm a CPA in my real life and I decided to go with removable hard drives for our office network. I just setup a mandrake server and use samba to backup up the NT fileserver right on to the removable hard drive. I have a set of shell scripts that mount the NT fileserver directories and cron runs it everynight at 11pm. It does about 3GBs of data. Then I shutdown and swap hard drive so I have a drive rotated offsite to my house. I usually swap hard drives every few days. I have the mandrake server running headless and use SSH to access it from home or from my windows 2k desktop at work. For a small network like mine it is so easy to setup and run. [expert] SSH setup & logs to watch?
I've setup a ssh server on mandrake 9.0 at work. Its behind a D-Link DI-604 router/firewall on a DSL line. I have the DI-604 forward port 22 to my ssh server. >From my house I use Putty to ssh in to the network at work and run VNC through ssh to my Windows 2000 computer at my desk at work. It works great. I'm using keys to login to the ssh server and I have disabled password logins and restricted the ssh logins to a single user. What else should I be doing to keep others out of my network at work? And what logs should I be looking at to check for intruders? Also, what do I need to do to print from my Windows 2000 machine at work so the print job prints at my printer at home (using VNC through SSH)? Thanks for any help. Robert Barry __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: [expert] Has RC1 been fixed ??? for Bad XFree Package --
I installed Mandrake 8.2 with Xfree on this system with no problems. I checked the md5 sums and they are correct. The only thing I can think of is that Via C3 CPUs don't like i686 optimization. They need to use i586. The error message pops up during the installation of the Xfree rpm. If I switch to console I see the error is "bad package". This system runs great on 8.2 Also someone else on the cooker list is having the same problem with a VIA "eden" system. It has the VIA C3 CPU integrated into the motherboard. Its a Mini-It size board. They can run fanless (really quiet). I think the "Eden" system uses a trident video chipset. Go to viaarena.com for more info on VIA C3 CPUs. Re: [expert] 8.2 install fails on Shuttle FV25
I found the solution on deja. To install 8.2 on the Shuttle FV25 you need to first disable IDE Prefech in the BIOS setup. After I did that 8.2 installed without any problems. I don't know why the IDE prefech setting was causing the install to lockup.
