Re: [expert] 7.2 is full of bugs!
Did you select "other window managers" from the general list of packages. I think the 100% means 100% of the packages in the major groups you selected. Then again, you can only run the mandrake installer so many times so I might be wrong. Buchan Jeff Malka wrote: > > That is what I thought originally. I assume that your wording "from" to "form"...if that is the case, it would ensure that you don't have all the files...so you better to get it in ISO form. Re: [expert] 7.2 is full of bugs!
I think it has to do with the standard "custom" install. xfce is also in the 2nd CD but was not installed when I selected custom (all selections) install in Mandrake 7.2. Since it had been installed in the same standard custom install in 7.1 and being a newbie (7.1 was my first venture into linux) I erroneously assumed xfce was not included in 7.2. I subsequently discovered it was included in the CD but not in the install. I am not sure why Mandrake decided the change. Also the xscreensaver that is installed in 7.2 lacks a lot of the "default and _included_" screensaver options (atlantis, moebius, pipes, etc., etc.). These options are not in the 7.2 xscreensaver rpm, but are in the 7.1 xscreensaver rpm. I extracted them from the 7.1 rpm and added them to the 7.2 xscreensaver install and they work fine. Since I don't use ISO's, I can't tell you exactly what's on which disc, but it wouldn't surprise me to discover that things like WindowMaker, AfterStep, and blackbox were also second CD packages. Part of the goal of the first disc is being able to handle base installs for the majority of new desktop users. These new users know nothing of these lower resource window managers and want something more Windows-like such as KDE/GNOME. -- Anton GrahamGPG ID: 0x18F78541 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> RSA key available upon request "Being disintegrated makes me ve-ry an-gry!" use gcc --version to get the version of gcc it matches the dir then. [expert] 7.2 is full of bugs!
7.2 is listed to have # rpm -qa | grep gcc-2 gcc-2.95.2-12mdk yet there is a /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-mandrake-linux/2.95.3 and not a 2.95.2 directory. This might be the reason behind gcc failing 9 out of 10 times when attempting to compile programs manually. Compiling programs is a hit and miss with ld core'g when it feels like it and gcc failing to work off and on. 7.2 needed to actually be 8.0 and thuroughly tested with all the new idiotic LSB mandates that have been added along with the unofficial patches to various programs the Linux-Mandrake has slipped in. It's also a shame that AfterStep wasn't included. :) -- | d a v i d @ m i h m | dmihm @ swbell.net | webmaster @ afterstep.org | ftpmaster @ afterstep.org | dmihm @ rchitecture.com -- Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.
