[expert] KDE 3.0, AA Fonts, and Helvetica
Hello, What does one have to do to get an anti-aliased Helvetica font in KDE 3.0? Anti-aliased fonts are working fine for me on my desktop and my applications, however I am finding that there are some web pages out there (including www.linux-mandrake.org) that are coming up with non-AA Helvetica font. Its not that big of a deal but its really starting to bug me. I have checked my XftConfig file and I do have the line: match any family == Helvetica edit family =+ Verdana; Uncommented. I have tried uncommenting the Use TrueType fonts for defaults section but it didn't work. I have looked all over the Internet for help but I can't find anything regarding an installation of 8.2 w/KDE 3.0. Anyone have any ideas? -Chris Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [expert] KDE 3.0 issues
Problems with KDE3.0 (KDE rpms; not from cooker): kcontrol works for me, but not for my wife's user account. It comes up, but is mostly blank. A permissions problem? Also, I can't add icons to her taskbar. Are most people using the cooker rpms? Any word on a mandrake-packaged kde3? Any help appreciated. -- Stephen Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Re: [expert] KDE 3.0
Oh... we're talkin about them... just on the cooker list, as mandrake has released their own packages. [expert] KDE 3.0 beta 2 rpms
Is anyone playing with the latest/current cooker kde 3.0 beta2 rpms? If so a couple questions... First, does the latest beta2 rpms support proper kmail addressbook conversion? I read a review of the beta2 last week and one of the problems then was its inability to transfer over your kde 2.2.x kmail addressbook. Someone later told me that it is now fixed - which may be true of the KDE source from kde.org but not necessarily with the cooker rpms. Second question...I cannot find a kdeadmin for kde 3.0 beta2. Is kdeadmin no more in kde 3.0? One more: What is your overall impression of kde 3.0 beta2? Is it worth the change? Any particular annoyances? I KNOW it's beta but I have enough little problems with 2.2.2 that I cannot see a few beta bugs making much difference at this point. praedor -- This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it. --John Adams, 2nd President, Founding Father, 1817 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? I tested Kde3beta2 on Lm8.1 After install kde from rpms, kdm dissapeared and have only gdm left . All the applications k* crash in the first time ti lanchecd ;) but the next it was ok ;) Well, I think it is still very unstable . Vu Hung Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Ouch...I've downloaded the whole monstrous thing, now I will pause and consider before I take the leap. At least I have a functioning gnome, enlightenment, blackbox, etc, so I am not fully hosed if KDE borks my system. How long ago did you try beta2? There are new beta2 rpms at rpmfind. Are they the rpms you tried? Finally, about QT - can QT 3.0 coexist with QT 2.0 or did you have to replace the old QT with the new, install your KDE 3 beta rpms, then remove the KDE 3 rpms and uninstall QT 3.0 and go back to QT 2.0, etc? praedor -- This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it. --John Adams, 2nd President, Founding Father, 1817 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [expert] KDE 3.0 beta2
Well, now that I almost have it working 100% I can say I am not displeased with KDE 3.0. I have run into just a few annoyances/problems. First off, perhaps someone could tell me what rpm is required for kpm to work? That app is actually no longer existent, if you run kpm from a CLI you get ksysguard (blech!) and for me it is not working at all. I am wondering if there is a sensors rpm somewhere that is required to make ksyguard work? I have lm_sensors installed but I still cannot get ksyguard to work. Window comes up fine but NOTHING is displayed in them (no CPU load info, no process list). I also cannot run the konsole configuration tool. Selecting it maddeningly produces no error messages and also fails to produce a configuration window (I want my antialiased konsole fonts back damnit!!!). I haven't run into any instabilities and it turns out that after rebooting and logging in (via a failsafe xterm entering startkde because KDM cannot seem to start it properly itself - starts gnome instead) Kmail did properly acquire my old addressbook. Can anyone point me to a config file that I can look at to try to determine why KDM wont start KDE 3.0? praedor -- This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it. --John Adams, 2nd President, Founding Father, 1817 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
